NERANG SOCCER CLUB 2016 SPONSORS

Celebrating 10 Years of Sponsorship

Newsletter 2016: No, 1 April

Relaunching our newsletter Greetings to all club members, players, parents and carers for the 2016 football season. It’s great to see so many old faces return to the club and some new faces too. Our clubhouse is again thumping with the excitement that the game of football brings. While the start of the season always has its creases to iron out, we are now well and truly under way and sliding into round five this coming weekend. Good luck everyone! This is the first newsletter for some time. It will be brief this time as the old template undergoes a transformation. There is plenty of exciting news to tell, most of which we’ll save for the next instalment and the new look format. By now most of the return members will have been made aware of the change to the junior’s coordinator. Darrell Olive is now the Junior Director of Coaching. His football career history can be read on the door of the club house as well as on our Facebook Page. He’s very approachable for a chat about coaching and training our youngsters, and has already made progress with many of our junior teams.

Can you think of sponsor for this space?

Speaking of coaches, we’d like to encourage parents to put their hand up to coach a team if they haven’t already done so. It’s a great experience which can be shared between two parents if two nights per week and a Saturday are difficult to manage for one. You will need a Blue Card which Merrin in the office can help out with. We hope to offer some training to parent coaches in the near future to help them in their duties. A minimum of 12 people is needed to run the course, so if you’re interested let Gary Stone (Vice President) know on 0403 600 054. Having a team manager to look after the paperwork is helpful and again, assistance with this job is available through the office.

Our committee and our crew: This year the club offered direct debit to families for payment of registration fees. This initiative proved to be very successful particularly for those families who have signed up more than one child. It was also helpful to the office staff. A win-win for everyone. Many of the roles at our club are performed by volunteers, and they have work and family commitments too. Please be patient as they try to assist you in your enquiry. Contact detail for all committee members can be found at the end of this newsletter.

Calling on budding photographers:

Quiz Question: # 1 For the first time at a Women's World Cup, the 2015 tournament utilized a technology found in sports like tennis and cricket. What is the name of this computer system that is used by referees to determine if a goal has been scored on a close play? Is it: a) The Pathfinder b) The Hawk-eye c) The Princeton d) The eye-cam Answer on page 4

Do you have a talent for photography? If you have a soccer related photo you want to submit to the newsletter, please let us know. We would love to see some action shots but remember to get permission from your subject before submitting to the newsletter – we don’t want any awkward conversations. All photos submitted must not breach copyright law.

Reminders:

Social calendar In the next edition there will be a run down on upcoming club events and activities. These will also be on our website. Kath Dougherty is the events and fundraising coordinator and she is always looking for volunteers when the club hosts events. Even just a couple of hours is always helpful. She can be contacted on 0412 563 760.

S.O.S The Club’s PA system is in a poor state of repair. If anyone can help resurrect it or help install a new one, please contact Frank Jennings on 0406 605 796

Unfortunately, we have to remind all parents and carers that they are not permitted in the dug-outs on game day. This is a requirement of Football Queensland. It is the official’s role to ask you to leave so as to ensure the club complies with federation rules. Parents and carers are sometimes required to look after an injured child. In most cases the team manager can do this. In those cases, an exception can

be made but generally, we ask all parents to remain behind the fence and away from the painted lines. This is for your safety as much as for the officials officiating the game on that line and for the players. Thank you for your cooperation.

Canteen News If you missed out on winning any of Frank’s raffles – don’t worry, there’s more on the way. Claire Goldsmith is coordinating the fundraising that will remunerate parent coaches in 2016. Keep an eye out for the meat raffles, fuel raffles and the Mother’s Day raffle.

The Club’s canteen is manned by Andy and Frank. Frank would like to say thanks to everyone who helped him raise money to buy the fridge to store the sushi and the sandwiches to give you, our patrons more variety. Bon appetito!

Useless information McDonalds sells 75 hamburgers every second of every day. That amounts to 2.4billion hamburgers per year! Come on Andy, sounds like a challenge to me 

Answer to Quiz Question #1 The Hawk-eye system was developed by Dr Paul Hawkins from the United Kingdom. In 2006 the Hawkeye system started to be utilized in tennis players could challenge calls made by referees. FIFA adopted the Hawk-eye technology later than other sports as the governing body wanted the developers of Hawk-eye to ensure there'd be a 100% success rate.
