myON Chrome App Release Notes – Version 1 myON App for Chrome: version 1 - Overview Your myON subscription includes a free myON app! This app is available in the Chrome Store (keyword = myON) https://chrome.google.com/webstore/search/myon. The app: • Lets you share devices between students and classes. • Lets you download up to twenty books to read anytime (even if you don’t have an Internet connection after downloading). • Keeps track of student reading statistics online and offline, and synchs activity to student myON accounts. • Makes every book in your myON collection available through the Chrome browser for offline reading. • Lets you select books to download through visual search or through the myON.com website. • Includes book reading scaffolds for audio and highlighting.

System Requirements Use this app on any PC, Mac, Windows tablet, or Chromebook – as long as you have the Chrome browser, you can use the app! However, the Chrome App is not recommended for tablets with native apps (ie: Android, iPad, Amplify, or KindleFire HD). To add accounts and/or download books to the app, you must be able to connect to the Internet. Offline reading can only be done through the free app.

Get the App On your device, open the Chrome web browser and access the Chrome Store: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/search/myon

Once you have found the myON app on the Chrome Store, you’ll click on the myON result, and select the “+ FREE” button in the top right – this will begin the download process. You may need to login to Chrome to continue the download, just use your Google or G-Mail account to proceed.

Once you’ve added myON, you’ll open the Apps area of Google Chrome – this is found on the top right corner of Chrome. You’ll immediately see the myON app icon:

Now you can launch the myON app by double-clicking the myON app image. Depending on your browser, you may also be able to access the myON app through the Chrome loader (normally shown as an icon in your taskbar). No matter which way you launch the app, you’ll receive the same functionality.

Using the App After downloading the app, you can immediately read the included Jackie Robinson book. To read other books, you must first load user accounts to the app. Loading User Accounts Select the “+ Link User” to add new user accounts. You’ll use the Sign In and Sign Out buttons once users are added. Student Account If you are adding a student account, just enter the school name, username, and password (just like logging into myON). The app will record the student as a registered user of the myON app. In the future, the student will login by selecting their name and entering the login username. Teacher Account Adding a teacher account allows the teacher to add their complete class list to the app. Login just as you would on the myON website, and select which classes or groups should be added as users to the app. Signing In Once there are accounts on the app, you can sign in to begin downloading and reading other books through the app. Select the sign in button, then find your name and enter your login username. You are signed in! Students can sign in either online or without Internet access. Teacher accounts can only be accessed when there is an internet connection. TIP: Teachers, setup a generic student account if you’d like to read books offline too! Adding a Book Click the Add Book button to browse the myON collection of titles to find one you’d like to download and read. There are two ways to find a book through the app:

Visual Search Select what category you are interested in. Choosing one of the top levels of categories (like “Animals”) will open a secondary list where you can further refine your search. After your search has been limited by the category, you can select individual titles. Click on a title you are interested in to see download details. Text Search Alternatively, start typing a keyword in the textbox. The search is guided – it will provide suggestions for what keyword you might be interested in. Once you see a list of titles, click on a title you are interested in to see download details. Download

Just choose the “Download” button if this is the book you want to read through the app. If you’ve changed your mind, click the red “x” to close this book and select a different one. TIP: You can also use the myON website while online (www.myon.com) to find books to download – you’ll see a “download” option which will open your app and add the book.

Reading a Book Once you’ve selected a book to read, it will download into the app. Once downloaded, you can read it online or offline. Just click on the book to launch it in the app. • The “Play/Pause” button at the bottom stops the audio and highlighting. When it’s paused, clicking the button will start the audio narration and highlighting again. • Swipe to turn the page – back and forth.

Double-click or expand with two fingers to zoom in on page. Double-click or pinch two fingers to zoom out from a page. Activate the Reader Controls by clicking anywhere on the screen.

The icons (from left to right) let you: • Return to the Books homepage • See additional book content • View publisher information about the book • Jump to any page you’ve already read • Expand to full screen viewing • Pause (or Play) the Audio and Highlighting • Mute the audio for silent reading without highlighting • Turn Off (or On) Word Highlighting • Turn Off (or On) Sentence Highlighting • Lock the toolbar to an open position Need More Information?
