Music Grade 2 to 3 Collection Growing with Music Key Stage 2A General Description: British multimedia series presents a vocal/composition program using Kodaly methodology to increase aural awareness and develop musical thinking. Key Stage 2A comprises two student books with activities, a teacher's guide, and an audio cassette. The audio cassette contains high-quality performances of the program repertoire by children's choirs, and male and female adult singers. Orchestrations are on authentic acoustic instruments. Book 1 is also appropriate for Grade 1. How We Make Music General Description: Fifteen-minute video is part of the Silver Burdett Ginn Music Magic video series that explores topics such as rhythm, melody, voice, folk dance, and instrument families. In this video, which is appropriate for segmented viewing, students discover some forms of music making from distant lands, including tapa pounding from Tonga, Sasa dancers from Samoa, panpipe music from the Andes, pipa playing from China, and the music of a young violinist. Two episodes feature appealing and motivating examples of body percussion. The final episode features the Soul Children of Chicago in a gospel performance. The accompanying teacher's guide describes the episodes, and provides discussion aids, some critical thinking questions, suggestions for student follow-up, vocabulary, and additional information to aid in developing lesson plans.
