John Murchie and Alex Au-Yeung
John Murchie is an inventor, industrialist and humanitarian. His innovative approach to society problems has earned him several awards and has been recognized by the University of Victoria with an Honorable Mention Award. He holds numerous patents and intellectual property. Alex Au-Yeung, P. Eng., is the president of Vancouver Business Network Forum and CMY Designs. The VBNF is well known in Vancouver and that has many business connections locally and globally. In the case of tsunami, the whole house may be lifted up and float in the water. If the force is so big and the panels are broken apart, it will float on the water so people may hold on to it to save their lives.
Since the construction is based on steel frames, foam, ABS panels, it will not break apart like wood pieces with wood framed housing or cement debris from concrete. CST (Composite Steel Technology) is used for prefabricated panels for housing construction. •
Panel Structure Each panel contains a welded steel frame that is prevented from oxidizing by a covering of non-corrosive materials.

Weather Resistant Outer Surface The outer skin is pre-formed Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styryne, shaped to give the appearance of a brick wall, cedar siding, and other building material shapes. These fire proof panels are coloured to choice.

House Construction Sequence The process for constructing a house is as follows:
a.
Floor panels are laid out and secured to a steel base frame.
b.
Wall panels are stood onto the floor and connected to it using steel connectors. Wall panel are glued to each other and the joints sealed with duct sealing glue #320.
c.
Roof panels are placed on top of the walls and secured with steel connectors. The joints are glued and sealed.

Panel Strength Tests Testing was done on separate panels to determine their strength in bending when load applied to the outer face, and their axial strength when loaded on the top edge.

Bending Strength A panel measuring 48" x 89" x 2.75" was placed horizontally on supports 83" apart, and loaded with steel and concrete weights until the mid span deflection reach 1.875" and it was judged that bending failure was imminent. The total weight applied was 1,026.1bs. When the weights were removed, there was a residual deflection of 0.5". Calculations showed that the equivalent wind pressure applied uniformly over the whole surface would be 52.7 Ibs per sq. ft. A wind speed of 140 miles per hour would be required to exert a pressure of 52.7 psi.

Test Result The tests show that the panels can withstand a "failure" wind speed of 140 MPH. When used as walls for a house, and when they are properly secured for forces from this wind speed. The axial strength of the wall panels provides adequate support for loads from the roof of a house.

CST (Composite Steel Technology) is used for prefabricated panels used for housing construction. •
Axial Strength A panel measuring 48" x 89" x 2.75" was placed vertically in a test frame and loaded evenly along the top 48" edge by a hydraulic jack, whose hydraulic oil supply pipe was fitted with a pressure gauge for calculating the force applied at the top. Measurements were taken at mid height to determine the amount of buckling as the load increased. The panel did not buckle until the load reached 8,000 lbs. When the load reach 8,640 Ibs, the mid height buckling measured 2.25" outwards, from the straight position. This was taken as the "effective failure load".
