Electrodynamic Testing Systems Series LFV – E 1 - 2.5 kN State-of-the-art ServoElectric testing system to execute both static and dynamic testing on materials and components including biomaterials and biomedical / dental implants, plastics, textiles composites and automotive or electronic components. The Series LFV-E are fluid-free non-hydraulic systems currently available with force capacities up to 2.5 kN for fatigue and durability testing, tensile, compression, bend, peel or shear

strength testing as well as crack initiation. These table top systems with its SerovElectric drive mounted on upper crosshead represents a versatile and reliable fatigue rated

testing machines combined with latest drive technology. These machines are selected from testing professionals in quality control, R&D or Universities who desire a compact space saving, clean and quite low force testing unit that requires no environmental consideration and virtually no maintenance. The ServoElectric drive with its in-line digital displacement transducer provides noise-free stroke measurement or control. This drive features backlash-free motion with no fluid compressibility to compromise position accuracy. The system is available with integral T-slot platen providing high degree of flexibility or attachable (to the upper crosshead) closed frame often used from those who test e.g. dental implants in combination with saline bath. The upper crosshead can be lift or lowered through integrated electrical spindles to adjust the desired test space. Only unclamp the crosshead by twisting the lever clamps and pushing the up / down bottom without any tools. The spindles for lift/lower are protected against dust or mechanical damage. An emergency stop is available direct at the testing machine as well as on the remote control unit which can be used for precise of the actuator through digital hand-wheel.

machine having a integral T-slot platen suitable to fix grips or fixtures, components, specimens, manufactured assemblies or finished goods. The actuator is well suited for high piston speed at virtually service-free fatigue testing with manifold attached direct on actuator providing close-coupled servovalve and accumulators for improved performance with highest possible respond and reduced pressure fluctuations. To facilitate re-positioning, the upper crosshead of the Series LFV is adjustable and the columns are chrome plated for easy cleaning and longest life.

Actuator Part of the load frame of the Series LFV is a double ended, in equal area constructed actuator to generate equal axial force in tension and compression with hydrostatic bearings. The hydrostatic bearings provides extremely low fiction for the most accurate control and longest reliable lifetime at full ratings. A precision displacement transducer is integrated in the actuators. They are well suited for all types of testing (from static to dynamic) and are known for their excellent fatigue reliability, accuracy and repeatability. These actuators are the most versatile and by far the most popular solution for all types of the Series LFV

multipurpose testing machines.

Load Cell The dynamic testing systems are equipped with precision fatigue rated load cells for accurate force measurement and control. They are either mounted on actuators piston rod end as required for component, finished goods or biomedical test applications or otherwise on upper crosshead / alignment fixture.

Hydraulic Power Supply The dynamic performance of a particular Test System is governed by oil flow and pressure. The Series LFV with force capacities up to 50 kN and actuator on crosshead are available with in the machine base integrated power supply with up to 8 l/min oil flow. For larger oil flows the full range of external power packs with ratings up to 500 l/min or even higher is available to suit your requirements. The power packs includes beside of the hydraulic system also all electrical parts as indicators and system management buttons. As cooling systems air/oil cooler, water/oil cooler or alternative closed loop re-cooler system are available.

APPLICATION Thermo-Mechanical Fatigue Testing - TMF TMF is a major cause of component failure in industrial machinery and structures exposed to temperature conditions and mechanical loads that change over time.

TMF affects a range of components, including train wheels and brakes, aircraft and ship engines, components used in gas turbines for power generation and compressors for gas and oil pipelines.

International Standards ASTM E2368-04 Standard Practice for Strain Controlled TMF-Testing •

This practice covers the determination of thermo mechanical fatigue (TMF) properties of materials under uniaxially loaded strain-controlled conditions. A “thermo mechanical” fatigue cycle is here defined as a condition where uniform temperature and strain fields over the specimen gage section are simultaneously varied and independently controlled. This practice is intended to address TMF testing performed in support of such activities as materials research and development, mechanical design, process and quality control, product performance, and failure analysis. While this practice is specific to strain-controlled testing, many sections will provide useful information for force-controlled or stresscontrolled TMF testing.

This practice allows for any maximum and minimum values of temperature and mechanical strain, and temperature-mechanical strain phasing, with the restriction being that such parameters remain cyclically constant throughout the duration of the test. No restrictions are placed on environmental factors such as pressure, humidity, environmental medium, and others, provided that they are controlled throughout the test, do not cause loss of or change in specimen dimensions in time, and are detailed in the data report.

The use of this practice is limited to specimens and does not cover testing of full-scale components, structures, or consumer products.

European Standard The International Organisation for Standardization (ISO) set up a working group to draft a TMF testing standard. Progress towards achieving a balanced document has been hampered because of the lack of pre-normative R&D. The aim of this study is to coordinate EU input to the ISO working group and to provide the technical basis that will enable researchers to define all test-related aspects of the draft standard.

Typical System Configuration of a TMF - Testing System In a TMF test the stress and strain applied to a specimen are varied independently of the temperature. Two main types of tests are usually conducted •

In-Phase TMF The maximum value of temperature and the maximum value of mechanical strain occur at the same time . Out-of-Phase TMF The maximum value of temperature leads the maximum value of mechanical strain by a time value.
