Innovation and sustainability for the built environment

Great demand for architects, designers and engineers who understand each other’s areas, who can innovate and who know how to design sustainably

Building Technology

There are engineers and there are architects. Missing is what sits in-between.

TiDO / TiSD Technology in Sustainable Development Special diploma annotation Requirements: Seminar week (5 ects, extra) 10 ects of TiDO-accredited courses: - at least 3 ects from Cluster A (design, analysis and tools) - at least 3 ects from Cluster B (organisation and society) Graduation project with sustainability content

Building Technology offers plenty of ECTS to comply with this. The colloquium week is extra-curricular.

Bucky Lab AR1B015 (12 ects)+AR1B025 (12 ects) MSc1, Q2/4 System development of a façade from innovative concept development to a final design in drawings and prototypes supported by performance studies Supported by seminars on Structural Mechanics, Materials Science and Building Physics

Innovation & Sustainability AR0531 (6 ects) (with BE students from CE&G) MSc1, Q1+2/Q3+4 Latest developments in sustainable building design, with the focus on climate design, facade design and structural design Self-directing learning: you pick your own topic, collect information and process this into a paper and manual

Technoledge (electives) MSc2, Q1/3 – AR0105/AR0115/AR0125/AR0135/AR0092/AR0028 – 12 ects

A great collection of specialist courses from the AE+T department You pick 2 of the 6 courses (6 ects each): structural design / façade design / climate design / design informatics / bridge design / zero energy design

10

Technoledge / Structural Design AR0105 (6 ects) MSc2, Q1/3 How to design structures in an innovative way using different materials - One design in glass, optimised in terms of minimum visibility - One design in conventional materials, optimised to minimum weight Both designs will be validated

Technoledge / Façade Design AR0115 (6 ects) MSc2, Q1/3 Topics relevant to the facade industry and architectural practice Lectures from TU Delft and experts from practice, several excursions, a symposium and additional workshops Also open as an elective course for Architectural students and students of Civil Engineering

Technoledge / Climate Design AR0125 (6 ects) MSc2, Q1/3 Focused on various aspects of indoor comfort in real buildings Focused on all senses (thermal comfort, visual comfort, acoustic comfort, air quality) Lectures, literature study, learning to do measurements, performing these in practice and writing a report

Technoledge / Design Informatics AR0135 (6 ects) MSc2, Q1/3 Design and build a small architectural object from composite materials in close collaboration with the industry Design as a team, in the computer, rationalized to support the manufacturing of the composite parts In the last week students will build the design

Bridge Design AR0028 (6 ects) MSc2, Q3 An integral approach through landscape design, architectural design and structural design Masterclasses from renowned bridge designers, lectures, design studio

Zero Energy Design AR0092 (6 ects) MSc2, Q3+4 Transformation of an existing non-residential building into a zero energy building with a new function Lectures, workshops, studio design

EXTREME AR1AE010 (with BE & A students) MSc2, Q2/4 (12 ects)

Integrated design assignment under extreme conditions, with extreme structures, using extreme materials Individual work Validation of structure, façade and energy performance

MEGA AR0026 (with BE & A students) MSc2, Q4 (12 ects)

Integrated design assignment of a large-scale building with engineering challenges Group work: interdisciplinary team with specialists

SWAT Studio AR3B015 MSc3, Q1/3 – 15 ects

A studio focused on technical interventions needed for a sustainable transition of a building, urban block or area The Briefing: introductory lectures The Intervention: onsite workshop The Elaboration: personal finish This will be done at a different location every semester, one in NL, one abroad.
