What is MOWR? • Move On When Ready is Georgia’s dual enrollment program that allows

high school students (9th – 12th grade) to earn college credit while working on their high school diploma. Move On When Ready replaces Accel, HOPE Grant for dual enrollment and the previous Move On When Ready program. The new Move On When Ready program now covers tuition, mandatory fees and required textbooks. **(Students are responsible for course specific fees, supplies, lab fees, and courses not on the list of approved MOWR courses)

How can I participate? Full-time Student

Okay, where can I do this? Eligible Postsecondary Institutions include:

A unit of the University System of Georgia;

• A branch of the Technical College System of Georgia; • A SACS accredited, private postsecondary institution located in Georgia that is eligible to participate in the Tuition Equalization Grant Program.

The fine print • There are no residency or citizenship requirements to participate in MOWR. Students must be enrolled in an eligible participating high school located in Georgia .

• Colleges set admissions requirements for MOWR students. • Students are responsible for taking the EOC for any EOC based course they complete in the MOWR program (American Lit, US History, Econ, etc.).

• Students can participate in MOWR at multiple colleges at the same time.

Who pays for it? • Georgia Student Finance Commission are invoiced by the colleges for MOWR fees. • MOWR classes do not count against the HOPE or Zell Miller Scholarships. • MOWR will pay for a max of 15 credits per semester, per school. $250 per semester hour at private colleges. Textbooks are provided by the college.

• In the event the funds provided to the institution by GSFC do not cover a student’s tuition for the term, the institution must waive/not charge any remaining tuition balance. *This does not apply to private colleges.

• If a student chooses to enroll in courses that are not MOWR approved courses, the student may be charged for those non-MOWR courses.

The SOFO Process • Step 1 – Student should take the SAT, ACT, or COMPASS exam. • Step 2 – Apply to the college(s) as a MOWR student.

• Step 3 – Once the student is accepted by the college, schedule a meeting with your counselor. Prior to each semester starting:

• Step 4 – Review and agree on courses to take at the college. Complete course registration portion of the participation agreement.

• Step 5 – Register for classes with the college and submit online MOWR application at GAcollege411.org (three parts). *Pending GAFutures

• Step 6 – Give your counselor a copy of the most up to date college course schedule.

Grading and GPA • How are MOWR grades from the college converted numerically? A=95, B=85, • • •

C=75, D=70, F=65. How is the EOC calculated into the final grade? The college grade counts 80% and the EOC covers the final 20%. How are numeric MOWR grades converted into the Forsyth GPA? A=5, B=4, C=3, D=3, F=0. Do MOWR courses meet HOPE rigor requirements and how do they affect my HOPE GPA? Yes, they meet rigor requirements and HOPE gives .5 bonus points to MOWR (also IB/AP) classes that B’s or C’s. How do MOWR courses affect college admissions? This varies, you will need to research the specific college and obtain their feedback.

Concerns? • Is my student mature enough to be in class with adults (18+)? • Disconnected from high school campus and school communication. • The lack of communication between the college and parent who has been used to being notified by the high school. Your student will be treated as a college student.

• College expectations… Your student will be treated as a college student. • Passing and failing grades reported by the college will be placed on the high school transcript.

• The college curriculum does not have to cover or follow the standards of the EOC.

Q&A • Can students take classes that are not required for high school graduation?

Yes, the list of available elective courses (this includes World Language, Fine Art, CTAE, PE, etc.) will be updated each semester and listed on GACollege411.org. *Pending GAFutures

• Can I take classes during the summer? Yes, if that college offers MOWR courses during the summer.

• Can students participate in MOWR and school related extra curricular

activities on campus? Yes, but for sports they have to be enrolled in at least 2.5 credits during the semester the activity is in session.
