Montana State University Billings 2017-2018 Scholarships The Montana State University Billings Foundation is pleased to provide the following information regarding scholarships available to students attending Montana State University Billings. To be considered for all MSU Billings scholarships, complete the MSU Billings scholarship application located online at www.msubillings.edu/scholarships before February 1. Incoming freshmen student scholarships will be awarded on an on-going basis beginning in December. Priority will be given to those who apply by February 1. For all other students, priority will be given to complete scholarship applications received by February 1. Chancellor’s Excellence Award Application The Chancellor's Excellence Awards will be awarded each year to freshmen entering Montana State University Billings in September. Recipients receive $4,000 per academic year. Scholars who meet or exceed all of the renewal criteria may expect to have their scholarships renewed for four years for a maximum award of $16,000. In addition, recipients who plan to live in the residence halls their freshman year will receive a housing/dining waiver valued at approximately one-half of the total cost of their room and board. Recipients who maintain a cumulative Fall GPA of 3.75 or above during their freshman year will be eligible to receive an additional $450 residence hall waiver for the spring semester of their freshman year. Recipients who maintain an overall cumulative GPA of 3.75 or above and continue to live in the residence halls, will be eligible to receive a $1,000 housing waiver their sophomore year, and each consecutive year thereafter for as long as the GPA is maintained at or above 3.75. Chancellor’s Scholars also receive admission into the University Honors Program. To apply for the Chancellor's Excellence Awards, submit the scholarship application by January 15. Scholarships Available Annually, MSU Billings awards approximately $1.5 million in scholarships! Check out all of the scholarships available, be aware of deadline dates, and apply! In addition to applying for scholarships, we strongly encourage you to apply for Financial Aid by completing the FAFSA form prior to the December 1. The scholarships listed below have been awarded in previous years or are new scholarships. A few awards may vary for the 2017-2018 academic year in the selection criteria, amount, and/or availability. The listing is categorized as follows: General Scholarships, scholarships for College of Allied Health Professions majors, scholarships for College of Arts & Sciences majors, scholarships for College of Business majors, scholarships for College of Education majors, scholarships for City College majors, scholarships for Graduate Students, and scholarships for Student Athletes. NOTE: You do not need to apply for these scholarships individually unless otherwise indicated in the criteria.

General Scholarships: Abrahamson Family Endowed Scholarship * Award: 11 @ $3,400. Definite financial need; must have and maintain at least a 2.75 cumulative GPA or above; full-time enrolled student; Montana or Wyoming resident; preference given to non-traditional students. Hubert and Viola Abrams Endowed Scholarship in Memory of Dora and Charles Hout * Award: $750. Junior or senior in college; definite financial need; full-time enrolled student; 3.0 GPA or above; resident of eastern Montana. Academic Support Center Demonstrated Potential Scholarship * Award: Varies. Non-traditional student preferred; must have financial need; recipient must have successfully completed a developmental course within the last two years (M065/090/095/098, WRIT095 or RD101; consideration given to students who work full- or part-time to support a family while in college, for students who have day-care aged children, or for students who have faced some other hardship in completing their education. Advising & Career Services Intern Advocate Award * Award: $250 Fall semester; $250 Spring semester (separate winners per semester). Available to students who have completed or are registered for an internship for credit through MSU Billings; 2.5 cumulative GPA or above; recipients are encouraged to complete a minimum of 5 activities promoting Advising & Career Services during award semester, such as: social media engagement, class presentations, and event promotion. Recipients must actively promote Advising & Career Services throughout award semester (s) and must attend planning meeting in September to create schedule of promotional activities. Jean Albus and Richard Gessling Endowed Scholarship * Award: $450. Preference given to non-traditional students with a disability that meets the Americans with Disability Act or to students who are single parents; available to students who are residents of or have graduated from a high school in the following counties: Big Horn, Carbon, Rosebud, Stillwater, Sweet Grass, or Yellowstone; definite financial need; 2.0 GPA or above, with preference given to students who are not normally entitled to scholarships based on achievement; recipients must be enrolled for a minimum of 6 credits per semester while receiving scholarship. Horatio Alger Scholarship Matching Awards * Award: Montana State University Bozeman will provide matching awards of up to $1,000 per year to recipients of Horatio Alger Scholarships attending any branch of Montana State University who are enrolled as full-time students in a baccalaureate degree program and are maintaining a 3.0 GPA. Anner-Hughes Opportunity Endowed Scholarship * Award: 2 @ $2,300. Traditional or non-traditional student; financial need; part-time enrolled student preferred; recipient should be first person in family to graduate from college when they graduate; recipients must maintain a 2.5 GPA or above. ASMSUB Child Care Scholarships 2

* Award: Number and amount of awards vary. Contact ASMSUB, Student Union Building, room 213; call 406657-2365; or, check out their website at http://www.msubillings.edu/asmsub for the application and deadline dates. ASMSUB Future Leaders Endowed Scholarship * Award: 2 @ $500. One scholarship available to a full-time student on the main campus and one scholarship available to a full-time student at the City College. Currently enrolled students must be involved on campus and have potential for campus leadership; incoming freshman must have been involved in high school and have potential for campus involvement and leadership. Recipients must have financial need and 2.0 GPA or above. Student government members (senators, staff and E.C.) are not eligible for scholarships. Recipients must participate in at least one campus clean-up and provide a letter at year-end describing their involvement on campus, how the scholarship affected them, and also their future plans for leadership and campus involvement. Badovinac Family Scholarships * Award: $5,000 each; number of awards available varies. Preference given to graduates of Roundup High School. Second preference given to graduates of specific rural public Montana high schools with fewer than 1,000 students (students of all small, rural Montana schools are encouraged to apply). First preference given to students enrolled in a program of study at MSUB City College. First priority given to graduating high school seniors who plan to continue their education in the months following their high school graduation; second priority given to returning students who have graduated from rural public Montana high schools in earlier years. Must be enrolled as full-time students; students with financial need may receive preference; City College students must have and maintain at least a 2.0 GPA; main campus students must have and maintain at least a 2.5 GPA. Students receiving the scholarship may be eligible to receive the scholarship additional years by annually submitting the MSUB on-line scholarship application. Renewal recipients will receive preference as long as they show progress toward their degree and improve their GPA in their chosen discipline. Bieber Endowed Scholarship for Students with Disabilities * Award: Up to $3,100 available. Adults (18 and older) with a disability that meets the definition of the Americans with Disability Act; must have and maintain at least a 2.0 GPA or above. Chet and Milly Blaylock Memorial Endowed Scholarship * Award: $600. Full-time student enrolled for a minimum of 15 credits per semester; graduate of a Montana high school; Montana resident; high school GPA of 3.5 or above, university GPA of 3.25 or above; two letters of recommendation; student who shows "promise in chosen field.” Linda Bliler Memorial Endowed Scholarship * Award: $950. Traditional or non-traditional student; full- or part-time enrolled; 2.5 GPA or above; preference given to females. Briggs Distributing Co., Inc./John and Claudia Decker Endowed Scholarship * Award: Up to $9,850 available. Sophomore, junior, senior, or graduate student; 3.0 cumulative GPA or above; traditional student preferred; financial need; full-time enrolled student. Preference given to children of employees of Briggs Distributing Co., Inc. Class status will be waived if applicant(s) are children of employees. Jimmy R. Bromgard Scholarship Fund 3

* Award: Varies. Fund will provide money for tuition, fees, and books for any person who was wrongly convicted of a crime in Montana and set free and who wishes to attend MSU Billings. Carbon County Recognition Scholarship * Award: $500. Carbon county resident; Montana resident; financial need; full-time enrolled student with a minimum of 12 credits per semester; available to freshmen through seniors in college; traditional students must have a 3.0 high school GPA and must maintain a 3.0 college GPA while receiving scholarship; nontraditional student must have a high school diploma or GED and must maintain a 2.5 college GPA while receiving scholarship; traditional student must have letter of recommendation from high school counselor or high school teacher; non-traditional student must have letter of recommendation from community member. Carbon-Stillwater Tavern Association Scholarship * Award: $500. Resident of Carbon or Stillwater county; available to freshmen through graduate students; 2.5 GPA or above; must have financial need; may be enrolled as a full- or part-time student. Bruce H. Carpenter Non-Traditional Endowed Scholarship * Award: Up to $4,250. Non-traditional student; Montana resident; freshman in college; financial need; fulltime student; up to three letters of recommendation. First time enrolled freshmen must have at least a 3.0 GPA OR have an endorsement from a counselor or advisor. Currently enrolled freshmen must have completed 15 semester hours or less of coursework at the post-secondary level and have earned a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better. Up to three references must be submitted with on-line scholarship application. Robert J. and Joan M. Carr Access Endowed Scholarship * Award: $650. Student with definite financial need; 2.5 GPA or above; full-time student. Chancellor's Excellence Awards * Award: $4,000/year for four years. Traditional or non-traditional entering freshman; enrolled full-time for a minimum of 15 credits per semester; 26 ACT or 1240-1270 SAT; rank in top 10% of high school graduating class OR have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or better; (applicants who are home school, charter high school, or G.E.D. graduates, or applicants who have been out of high school more than three years, must satisfy the ACT or SAT requirements listed above); evidence of leadership and a record of school/community service; three letters of recommendation. Applicants must sign a declaration of intent to complete a four-year undergraduate degree conferred by MSU Billings and be enrolled in an MSU Billings bachelor’s degree program. Collegiate License Plate Endowed Scholarships * Awards: $500 or $1,000 scholarships (up to $13,000 available). Recipients must have successfully completed a minimum of 15 semester credit hours at MSU Billings; Montana resident; 2.5 GPA or above; preference given 4

to full-time enrolled students; graduate students are eligible. Creative Writing Endowed Scholarship in Memory of Ben Gloege * Award: $500. Recipients must have upper division status; candidates should have taken at least two (2) creative writing courses at MSU Billings; judgments will be made in relation to quality of student’s creative writing work. Creative Writing staff will select recipient in March; students are not required to submit a scholarship application or portfolio to be considered for the scholarship. Jane Dahle Memorial Women’s Studies Scholarship * Award: Number of awards varies, $250 per semester. Available to female students who exhibit the potential and dedication to succeed; must have financial need. John and Claudia Decker Opportunity Endowed Scholarship * Award: $400. Traditional or non-traditional student; financial need; part-time enrolled student preferred; must maintain a 2.5 GPA or above. Dickerson/Knight Access to Education Endowed Scholarship for Non-Traditional Women * Award: $4,500 per year for four years. Female student; non-traditional student; freshman in college (firsttime freshman must have a high school GPA of 2.5 OR have an endorsement from a counselor or advisor, freshman with coursework at the post-secondary must have at least a 3.25 cumulative college GPA); financial need; full-time undergraduate student; must be enrolled in a baccalaureate degree program. Scholarship may continue for up to four academic years or until completion of the recipient’s undergraduate degree (whichever comes first) provided recipient maintains scholarship criteria and annually submits the MSUB online scholarship application. Betty Dunn Memorial Endowed Scholarship * Award: $700. Female student; financial need; full-time student; single parent. Esther Eaton Endowed Scholarship * Award: $500. Traditional or non-traditional student; financial need; part-time enrolled student preferred; 2.5 GPA or above. Jorgen Egeland Memorial Endowed Scholarship * Award: $1,000. Available to students who are graduates of high schools from rural Montana communities with preference given to students who are graduates from high schools in Sheridan and Daniels Counties; sophomore or junior in college; 3.0 cumulative grade point average or above; financial need; full-time student enrolled for a minimum of 12 credits per semester. Lester and Cora Engdahl Memorial Endowed Scholarship * Award: $1,200. Preference given to graduates of Garfield County High School; scholarship available to incoming freshmen through seniors in college or graduate students enrolled in an undergraduate, graduate or vocational degree program; recipients must have and maintain at least a 2.5 GPA; preference will be given to students in need of financial assistance; traditional recipients must be enrolled full-time with a minimum of 12 credits per semester; non-traditional students may be part-time with a minimum of 6 credits per semester; recipients should demonstrate the drive and ability to enroll and graduate in their chosen field; preference will 5

be given to an incoming freshman. If no incoming freshmen meet the above criteria, the scholarship may be awarded to a previous recipient or upperclassman who meets the criteria. If no students from Garfield County qualify for scholarship, scholarship may be awarded to a student from McCone, Petroleum, Rosebud or Custer counties provided they meet the scholarship criteria. Facilities Services Endowed Scholarship * Award: Up to $1,000. Scholarships available to full-time employees of MSU Billings Facilities Services and immediate family members of full-time employees or retired employees of MSU Billings Facilities Services; recipients may be enrolled as full- or part-time students. Dr. Joe W. Floyd and Barbara L. Noble Scholarship * Award: Scholarships will be awarded based on the number of credits for which each recipient plans to enroll: 6-8 credits=$1,500 scholarship; 9-11 credits=$2,000 scholarship; 12 or more credits = $2,500 scholarship. A total of $9,500 will be available. Single mother, head of household, who is responsible for the care of her dependent children; Montana resident; must be enrolled in a 4-year degree program; financial need; 2.5 cumulative GPA or above; available to freshmen through seniors in college; provided funds are available and recipients remain in good standing (2.5 GPA or above), scholarships may be renewed for up to a total of four years. The value of subsequent scholarships will be based on the number of credits for which the recipient enrolls and the availability of adequate funding. Food Services of America – Thomas J. Stewart Memorial Endowed Scholarship * Award: $500. Preference given to non-traditional students; preference given to students enrolled in a business curriculum or to students with some type of agriculture background; financial need; must maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or above. Foster Family Endowed Scholarship for International Education * Award: Up to $4,000 available. Available to MSUB students who wish to study abroad in an MSUB or MUS System Study Abroad Program; applicants may be any major, but must be interested in international studies; Montana resident; 3.25 GPA; full-time student; preference given to students with financial need. Karen Frank & Family Scholarship * Award: $1,000. Female; non-traditional student; Montana resident; junior or senior in college; 3.0 GPA or above; full- or part-time enrolled student; financial need may be considered, but is not deciding factor in awarding scholarship. George H. Gloege and Randall G. Gloege Endowed Scholarship for Students Actively Interested in Protecting the Environment * Award: $575 for spring semester 2018. Applicants must be actively advocating for the environment; must have taken at least one course having connection to the environment; preference given to students completing an upper division course; 2.5 GPA. Interested students must complete the Gloege Scholarship Application available at the MSUB Foundation or contact Dr. Lisa Kemmerer, Professor of Philosophy, at [email protected]. Deadline to submit application is November 1. Scholarship will be disbursed spring semester. John F. and Winifred M. Griffith Endowed Scholarship * Award: 3 awards, each covering up to $6,950 for tuition, fees and instructional supplies for the academic year. Full-time enrolled student; sophomore, junior, senior, or graduate student; 3.0 cumulative GPA with at 6

least a 3.25 GPA in major field of study; recipient must demonstrate academic and leadership potential; students enrolled at the City College or who are majoring in theater are not eligible for scholarship; students must not be on academic or disciplinary probation. Students receiving the scholarship may be eligible to receive the scholarship additional years by annually submitting the MSUB on-line scholarship application. Renewal recipients will receive preference as long as they show progress toward their degree and improve their GPA in their chosen discipline. Dr. Rolf Groseth Endowed Scholarship * Award: $325. Available to freshmen through seniors in college; 3.0 cumulative GPA or above; financial need; full- or part-time enrolled; must be working toward an A.A./A.A.S. or B.A./B.S. degree. Walter B. and Barbara J. Gulick Family Endowed Scholarship * Award: $625. Scholarship funding for an upper division Honors Program student involved in an upper division research project (typically a year-long project). Contact the Director of the Honors Program at (406) 657-2908 for application and selection process. Sue Hart Opportunity Endowed Scholarship * Award: $800. Female; 2.5 GPA or above; financial need. David and Barbara Hawkins Endowed Scholarship * Award: $325. Employee, spouse, or child of employee of Treasure State Electric, Premier Realty, Inc., or LAIS Development; 2.0 GPA or above; full- or part-time student. Haynes Foundation Scholarships * Award: 28 @ $2,000. Undergraduate students enrolled in a baccalaureate degree program; graduate of an accredited Montana high school; Montana resident; full-time student enrolled for a minimum of 15 credits per semester; 3.5 GPA; financial need. Incoming freshmen must have a 23 ACT or 1130-1150 SAT score. Scholarships are not available to music or music education majors or student athletes receiving any type of athletic scholarship as a result of their participation in an intercollegiate sport. Students receiving the scholarship may be eligible to receive the scholarship additional years by annually submitting the MSUB online scholarship application. Renewal recipients will receive preference as long as they show progress toward their degree and improve their GPA in their chosen discipline. Hearst Endowed Scholarship * Award: $380. Recipient must be of Hispanic decent; full- or part-time student with preference given to fulltime; 2.5 GPA or above; evidence of community or extracurricular involvement; available to freshmen through seniors in college. Heisey Foundation Scholarships * Award: Varies. Scholarships awarded to students who have graduated from specific high schools in north central Montana to include: Augusta, Belt, Browning, C.M. Russell, Cascade, Centerville/Sand Coulee, Central Catholic, Choteau, Conrad, Cut Bank, Dutton/Brady, Fairfield, Fort Benton, Geraldine, Great Falls High, Highwood, Lincoln High, Montana School for the Deaf and Blind, Paris Gibson Education Center, Power, Shelby, Simms/Sun River, Sunburst/North Toole County, and Valier High Schools; sophomore, junior, or senior in college; selection based on those who will receive the most benefit from the scholarship. Homesteaders Scholarship 7

* Award: up to $10,000 available. $2,000 recipients must be graduates of a high school in Petroleum County; traditional or non-traditional students; freshmen through seniors in college; high school GPA of 2.0 or university GPA of 2.5; full-time student; definite financial need. $1,000 recipients must be graduates of a high school in Garfield County; traditional or non-traditional students; freshmen through seniors in college; high school GPA of 2.0 or university GPA of 2.5; full-time student; definite financial need. David L. Hood International Faculty/Student Scholar Exchange Endowed Scholarship * Award: $625. Available to MSUB students studying abroad at an institute of higher education OR to international students attending MSUB; 3.0 GPA; must be enrolled for a minimum of nine credits per semester while receiving scholarship. Information Technology Endowed Scholarship * Award: $650. Available to current employees of the MSU Billings Information Technology Department who are .75 to full-time employees and their spouses or dependent children; available to freshmen through seniors in college; at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA; interested students must also submit a one page resume and one page essay on they plan to use technology in their intended profession. International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees Union Local 240 Endowed Scholarship * Award: $700. Preference given to IATSE members, their family and/or spouses; 2 nd preference given to theater majors; junior or senior in college; financial need; 2.5 cumulative GPA or above; available to full- or part-time students. "Hardy" Kindler Memorial Endowed Scholarship * Award: 3 @ $1,000. Eastern Montana or Northern Wyoming resident; male; sophomore or above; full-time student; 3.0 GPA; financial need. Curt Kochner Endowed Scholarship for Student Leaders * Award: $1,650. Sophomore or above in college; 2.5 GPA or above; full-time student; recipient must have demonstrated significant student leadership in campus involvement (i.e. Student Senate, Residence Halls, Community Involvement, etc.). Brynn and Kara McDonald Endowed Scholarship * Award: $1,250. Incoming freshmen in college who might not otherwise be able to attend MSUB due to financial hardship. Students must demonstrate potential to be successful in college; must have at least a 2.5 high school GPA OR have at least a 22 composite ACT score or 1100-1120 SAT score. McMullen Golden Years Endowed Scholarship * Award: $1,050. Incoming freshman; Montana resident; 3.5 GPA; financial need; full-time student. Metz Family Endowed Scholarship * Award: $680. Non-traditional student; must have financial need; 2.5 cumulative GPA or above; full- or parttime enrolled student. Marilynn F. Miller Opportunity Endowed Scholarship * Award: $1,400. Available to full- or part-time, traditional or non-traditional students; must have and maintain a 3.0 cumulative GPA; must have financial need; preference will be given to first-generation college students pursuing either a two-year or four-year degree. If there are numerous students who meet all the 8

above criteria, students from the Hi-line will receive first consideration. Roseanna Chatham Milne Memorial Endowed Scholarship * Award: $400. Scholarships available to Native American students who are transferring from a tribal college, with preference given to students transferring from Little Big Horn College; Montana resident; education major; junior or senior in college; 2.5 GPA or above; financial need; full-time enrolled student. In the event there are no qualified transfer applicants, the scholarship will be awarded to a full- or part-time female student with dependents who also meets the remaining criteria (dependents may include children, an elderly parent, or a handicapped spouse). Students receiving the scholarship are eligible to continue to receive the scholarship by annually reapplying. Renewal recipients will receive preference as long as the student shows progress towards their degree. Carter and Betsy Mollgaard Endowed Scholarship * Award: $500. Scholarships available to students who are residents of or have graduated from high schools in the following eastern Montana counties: Custer, Rosebud, Treasure, Garfield, McCone, Richland, Wibaux, Dawson, Prairie, Fallon, Carter, and Powder River; must maintain a 2.5 cumulative GPA. Students receiving the scholarship may be eligible to receive the scholarship additional years by annually submitting the MSUB online scholarship application. Renewal recipients will receive preference as long as they show progress toward their degree and improve their GPA in their chosen discipline. Montana Center for Inclusive Education Undergraduate and Graduate Scholarships * Award: 8 undergraduate @ $1,000; 2 graduate @ $1,000. Available to students with a disability that meets the definition of the Americans with Disability Act and is registered with MSUB Disability Support Services; Montana resident; 2.5 undergraduate GPA or 3.25 graduate GPA; must have unmet financial need; available to full- or part-time enrolled students. Morningstar Non-Traditional Endowed Scholarships * Award: 4 @ $650. Madison and/or Ruby Valley residents given preference; must be a graduate of a Montana high school; Montana resident; 2.5 GPA or above; financial need; part- or full-time student; nontraditional student; student enrolled in undergraduate, graduate, or vocational degree program. Morningstar Traditional Endowed Scholarships * Award: 3 @ $1,300. Graduates of high schools in Madison County (includes Sheridan, Twin Bridges, Ennis, and Harrison) given preference; graduate of a Montana high school; Montana resident; incoming freshman in college; 3.0 GPA or above; full-time student; student enrolled in undergraduate, graduate, or vocational degree program. MSU Billings Alumni Association Scholarship * Award: $1,000/year for 4-years to main campus recipient; $1,000/year for 2-years to City College recipient. Recipient must be related to an alumnus of MSU Billings (EMC); incoming freshman in college; graduate of an accredited high school; full-time enrolled student; financial need; evidence of leadership, community service, and scholarship ability; written statement of personal/educational goals and objectives; minimum of three letters of recommendation; main campus recipient must be working toward a B.A./B.S. degree program; City College recipient must be enrolled in an A.A./A.A.S. program of study. Scholarship awarded to a high school senior who will be an entering freshman in college and a member of the Yellowjacket baseball team; traditional male student; recipient must be a Billings American Legion baseball player (Royal or Scarlet) who demonstrated both athletic and academic excellence; high school GPA of 3.0 or above; full-time enrolled student; preference will be given to student with financial need. If no qualified freshmen apply for the scholarship, the scholarship may go to an upperclassman who meets the remaining criteria. Abby Farmer Wright Endowed Scholarship * Award: $1,130. Scholarship available to a Yellowjacket women’s or men’s soccer player. Additional criteria may be determined by MSUB Intercollegiate Athletics Scholarship Committee.
