ABOUT THE COLLECTION Affäire café furniture is a collection based on our original rattan furniture, which we have produced since the 1940’s. Our handcrafted Affäire café chairs, stools and tables bring you back to the Paris café life in the 30’s. We wish to embrace this era with our original rattan furniture, now woven with weather resistant weave on strong natural rattan frames. The designs in this collection is our own designs from the 50’s and 60’s and, you will find some of the same models in our ORIGINALS collection. Affäire is designed for the upper end cafés, brasseries & restaurants in historical European cities and capitals all over the world. Affäire is also an elegant choice for rivieras along waterfronts all over the world.
ABOUT US The company Sika-Design is a merger between the two eldest manufacturers of rattan furniture in Scandinavia: Horsnæs a/s (1940) and Sika Møbler a/s (1950), thus drawing on more than 70 years of experience within manufacturing and design of furniture. Ever since the day of founding, Sika-Design have spezialized in the manufacturing and distribution of high quality rattan and wicker furniture – custom-made and manufactured to European standards and conditions. RATTAN
For the collection Affäire, only first class rattan is used. Rattan is a plant related to the palm tree, and grows in the Indonesian rainforest. Rattan is one of the fastest growing materials in the world, it regenerates in 5-7 years and it transforms CO2 into clean air. It is a fact that 80% of the world’s rattan is growing in Indonesia where we manufacture the furniture in our own factory. For the Affaire collection we use the rattan as nature made it! This means we do not remove the skin and the knots of the rattan and therefore we can leave it unlacquered. The skin of the rattan will serve as its natural protection.
CRAFTSMANSHIP
The processing of the rattan material is very complex but yet the same techniques which have been used for centuries . The only way to work with Rattan is by applying the traditional century –old method and do not require heavy machinery. The traditional method was perfected in Denmark by skilled canemakers in the 70’s. The complexity is increased in the combination of natural raw material, the synthetic fiber and precise assembling techniques. Each chair is meticulously handcrafted in our factory in Indonesia only using the finest rattan and stainless steel nails and screws. First the rattan frame of the chair is steamed and hand formed after which each chair frame is then hand woven with Polystrand fiber. These materials and precise craftsmanship produce a chair that is durable, light weight and very strong which can last for years.
POLYSTRAND
Polystrand is a weather resistant synthetic fiber. The fiber is easily recyclable. Due to the basic structure, the fiber can be melted down and re-used over and over with very little damage to the polymer chains in the fiber. • • • • • 4

It is resistant to the UV rays as well as to insects and moulds. It resists temperatures going from –50 degrees to 70 degrees. It is resistant to rain, salt water and even snow. It won’t loose its elasticity even after years of intensive use. It doesn’t require much maintenance. Soapy water is enough to clean it.
RATTAN USED OUTDOORS
Rattan is the only material that can be harvested in nature and used for furniture without any processing. The skin of the rattan is very strong and hardwearing and therefore suitable for outdoor use. However its natural color will in time turn silvery grey. This transformation is very beautiful and add character to the furniture. The cane will stay strong for years however the appereance will change. Wicker furniture will last longer if not exposed to water or excessive sun. Rattan furniture used on covered patios and terraces will last for generations. Enjoy this beautiful and natural product.

CUSHIONS
We offer cushions for our Affaire collection.
We have a wide selection of fabrics, and we can also offer to produce cushions with upholstery of your own choice, as we have our own inhouse production facilities.
TABLE TOPS
For our Nicole table bases we offer a woven top. A glass top can be used in a combination with the woven top.
Versalite table tops can be used for our Nicole table bases.
