The session will provide an overview of DG GROW’s initiatives to strengthen the Network’s position in the macro-regions, including actions undertaken in EUSAIR and EUSDR. High technology applications in the military and civil domains are converging more and more. Reducing the segmentation between civil and defence applications can have a positive impact in terms of innovation and cost-reduction (developing improved synergies, creating economies of scale and reducing unit costs). The defence industry is recognised as a generator of innovation, centred on high-end engineering and technologies and creating important indirect effects on other sectors, such as electronics, space and civil aviation. START-UPS/SCALE-UPS: THE CHALLENGE OF SCALING UP SMES

SME GLOBETROTTERS: PROVIDING EFFECTIVE INTERNATIONALISATION SERVICES TO LOCAL BUSINESSES

13:30>15:00

13:30>15:00

MONIKA GULLEROVA AUDITORIUM

AUREL STODOLA ROOM

The workshop on scale-ups has a two-fold purpose: to inform the Network on the results of the Working Group on scale-ups and the potential services to be provided by the Network, and to present the new call for the Enterprise Europe Network action supporting young companies scaling-up their activities in the Single Market. The answers to any call-related questions will be published afterwards for reference to the Network.

The workshop explores ways to provide more effective internationalisation services to local SME clients. Drawing from successful experiences in Denmark and Scotland, participants will learn how a ‘holistic’, impact-oriented service approach can lead ‘high-potentials’ (highly innovative SMEs with great potential to internationalise beyond the EU Single Market) from the identification of their particular service needs to the signature of partnership agreements in fast-growing third markets.

The workshop shall be interactive, triggering a discussion on the Network services for fast-growing scale-ups. A case study of a start-up receiving support from the Network shall illustrate the possible actions in this direction and outline the role of the partners in the scale-up journey of a company. EBN will join the panel discussion with expertise in the detection, incubation and acceleration of high-potential innovative start-ups.

ENTERPRISE EUROPE NET WORK ANNUAL CONFERENCE 2016

Participants will have the opportunity to learn from experienced Network partners about the latest tried and tested tools to manage brokerage events. In addition, participants will be able to recap on procedures for reporting their brokerage events and company missions to make sure they have everything covered from A-Z.

The idea of a buddy system came from Network coordinators at their Coordinators’ Days in June 2016. They identified the need for peer support to face day-to-day challenges related to their function. They also realised that many challenges they face individually are similar across the whole Network (rotation of staff, motivation of staff, new recruits, etc.).

The aim of the workshop is to map, for each service provided by Enterprise Europe Network advisors: > the IP-related activity to be undertaken; > the services and tools to consider to provide the relevant IP support.

The concept of Thematic Groups and Thematic Contact Points (mainly as exchange forum for information and expertise) is still new but has started to pick up recently. Some of them have had their kick off meetings and started their activities.

This will provide a clear and practical approach to IP services for SMEs that can benefit the whole Network.

The idea of this meeting is to develop, with the help of the members of the Thematic Groups’ executive boards, a strategic outlook for the future of those groups and to talk about concrete activities to make them a success.
