FLEXIBLE STEEL BELTS

The polyurethane-coated flat steel belt is up to 20% lighter and lasts up to 3 times longer than conventional ropes. What’s more it requires no lubricants.

The GeN2 sheave, as small as 10 cm in diameter, has allowed Otis to design a machine up to 70% smaller than conventional machines.

You probably won’t notice the new safety features of the GeN2 Mod design. That’s because they’re so effective.

Stopping accuracy The belt’s reduced stretch compared to conventional steel ropes together with a closed loop VF control results in outstanding stopping accuracy. (+/- 3 mm). Continuous monitoring of the belt Otis’ PULSE™ electronic system checks the status of the steel cords 24h/7d. Contrary to current visual inspections of conventional steel ropes, the PULSE system electronically detects the slightest anomaly. INFRA-RED entrance protection INFRA-RED entrance protection

This screen of invisible, infra-red beams results in the car doors automatically reopening when an obstacle is detected - hence avoiding the risk of a passenger being jolted by the doors. Machine brake system The machine’s dual brake system is equipped with a switch to prevent the lift from moving before the brake is fully released. Speed control The machine is fitted with a magnetically-operated system which prevents the lift exceeding a certain speed on its ascent or when there is a power failure. The system provides two-way voice communication between passengers and trained Otis personnel at the OTISLINE™ centre 24h/7d. The diagnostic function of REM also provides the most effective means of controlling floor levelling and the efficiency of the door mechanism.

A smooth ride The polyurethane-coated flat steel belt together with the gearless machine controlled by a variable-frequency drive result in a smooth ride and remarkable stopping accuracy. Moreover, the sheaves have been specially designed to minimise vibrations transmitted to the car.

A quiet operation The interaction between the flat belt and the smooth crowned sheave reduces wear and increases durability. It also leads to unsurpassed ride comfort. The gearless machine and its control cabinet mounted on insulating rubber pads reduce vibrations transmitted to the building. An intelligent system

For buildings with a high traffic intensity, Otis’ RSR Plus® (Relative System Response) selects the car best placed to respond to a landing call. It immediately analyses all relevant information regarding traffic so as to make the most intelligent decision regarding car allocation. Exploiting the technology of the GeN2 system, RSR Plus reduces waiting time and improves traffic handling.

The controller is equipped with a new generation of microprocessors and a software which offers optimal response time for passengers. The closed loop variable frequency drive with vector control further contributes to overall efficiency. A digital encoder ensures precision of both speed and car positioning.

COMBINATION OF TECHNOLOGICALLY ADVANCED COMPONENTS .

A new control cabinet Microprocessor technology reduces the number of moving parts so minimising the risk of malfunction. The design of the cabinet itself reduces electrical wiring and increases the speed at which information is transmitted. The design of each cabinet is modular and each cabinet in, say, a bank of lifts is equipped with the hardware and software for it to receive and coordinate the information concerning landing calls with the other lifts. No group controller is therefore necessary. A digital encoder continually evaluates the speed and position of the car which in turn results in an exceptionally reliable system. Multiplex wiring The installation needs only four cord wiring which reduces the risk of micro-electrical power cuts. A machine that’s ecologically friendly The machine, fitted with sealed-for-life bearings, and the polyurethane-coated steel belts require no oil or polluting lubricants. Gearless and with low inertia, the machine is equipped with a highly efficient permanent magnet synchronous motor of radial construction. As such, it offers exceptional performance: • 50% more efficiency than a conventional geared machine • 10% more efficiency than a conventional gearless machine with an induction asynchronous motor • 15% more efficiency than a machine with a permanent magnet motor of axial construction design. An economical control system The machine is governed by a closed-loop, variable-frequency control system which produces: • lower energy consumption • lower power requirement • lower starting current and nominal current requirements. ReGen drives expand on the efficiency of our elevators, reducing energy consumption by up to 75 percent, compared with conventional systems without ReGen drives, by conserving energy that is normally wasted as heat during braking. ReGen drives capture this energy and feed it back into the building’s electrical grid for use by other building systems, such as lighting. Even better, ReGen drives produce “clean power” thanks to low harmonic distortion, which minimises impact on the building’s electrical system and helps protect sensitive building equipment.
