Installing Mobile Security

Swisscom KMU | Mobile Security

Mobile Security for Symbian^3 devices This manual is for mobile phones equipped with the Symbian^3 (Symbian Generation 3) operating system. You can see which mobile phones with this operating system are available from Swisscom by visiting www.swisscom.ch/f-secure

2.1 Symbian^3 devices with pre-installed Mobile Security Swisscom Mobile Security is partly pre-installed on mobile phones supplied by Swisscom. You can therefore activate your Mobile Security program immediately by selecting the padlock symbol labelled Mobile Security. NB: Depending on the phone model, the title may be abbreviated. 2.2 Symbian^3 phones with pre-installed Swisscom Security Launcher If you acquired your mobile device from Swisscom, your Programs menu may contain the padlock symbol with the title Swisscom Security Launcher (the title may be abbreviated). Selecting this symbol opens a dedicated download program (launcher) for the Swisscom Mobile Security program.Note that the installation process involves downloading around 2 MB of data. You should therefore have a Swisscom subscription with a data option and be connected to the Swisscom network or a private WLAN while downloading. When the installation is complete, you must activate the product (see chapter 2). The product will not protect your mobile phone until it is activated. You can use the trial version of the product for 30 days before subscribing. 2.3

Symbian^3 phones without pre-installed Mobile Security or Swisscom Security Launcher

If you have acquired a mobile phone on which Swisscom Mobile Security is not pre-installed and which does not have

a Swisscom Security Launcher, you can still install the Swisscom Mobile Security application. This is the case if the Programs menu on your mobile device does not contain the Swisscom padlock symbol. Open your Internet browser and type http://mobile.f-secure.com/swisscom in the address line of your browser. On the web page that opens, you will find the download option. Select the download for Symbian^3 mobile phones and follow the installation assistant’s instructions. Accept the licence terms and conditions and turn your phone off and on again.

Activating/deactivating Mobile Security

3.1

Activating Mobile Security Activating free trial version When you open Mobile Security for the first time, you can use a trial version of the application for 30 days. The trial period begins on first activation. Select the Mobile Security Symbol, then the Activate option and follow the assistant’s instructions, which will guide you through the activation process. On activation, it is also necessary to update the program via an update server. Use the Swisscom Services link on the Swisscom mobile network to download the updates. The activation assistant will then immediately ask you to carry out the necessary Mobile Security configurations and scan your phone for viruses. It is best if you configure the Anti-Theft and Parental Control settings straightaway if the mobile device is going to be used by a child. Make a note of the security code and carry out a virus scan immediately. However, you can do this at any time. You should then switch your phone off and on again to make Mobile Security operational. It is best if you also activate the firewall when you switch your phone on again so that you are immediately protected from hackers. You can find out how to activate the firewall in chapter 4.1. If you have successfully activated Mobile Security, the remaining validity period will be displayed in your Mobile Security summary window. Mobile Security has the same range of functions during the trial period as during a paid subscription. However, you can order a paid subscription directly with Swisscom at any time during the trial period. Seven and three days before the trial period ends, Mobile Security will remind you that your trial is nearly over. In order to keep your phone properly protected, we recommend that you order a subscription with Swisscom in good time.

Mobile Security will show you in a summary window how many days are left in your trial period. 2. Select the Subscribe button. You will see when your trial version is due to expire and the monthly cost of a Mobile Security subscription with Swisscom. 3. Select the first payment method, Continuous Protection. 4. Select the Order button if you would like to order a subscription. 5. Your Mobile Security program will automatically send a free SMS with the keyword START SECURITY to 811. You will then receive a message saying that you will receive confirmation of the order. You will see in your Mobile Security summary window that your order has been successful. 6. Now go to your Messages box, where text messages are received. In your Inbox, you will find an SMS from 811 containing the keyword START SECURITY and instructions on how to confirm the order. You will also be told again how much the Mobile Security subscription will cost per month. 7. Important: Reply to this SMS with a new SMS containing the keyword START, sent to the same number (811). Unless you reply, your order will not be complete. 8. You will receive another SMS from 811 in your Inbox. This will confirm your order and tell you the subscription cost and how to cancel the Mobile Security subscription. 9. In your Mobile Security program, the summary window will indicate that you are now subscribed to the service.

02.2012

Alternative paid subscription activation method You can also subscribe to Mobile Security without launching the trial version by sending an SMS directly to 811. This will confirm the cancellation and tell you for how much longer your Mobile Security subscription remains valid. 5. In the summary window of your Mobile Security program, you will see how much longer your subscription will last.

Alternative subscription cancellation method via SMS: You can also cancel your subscription with Swisscom by sending an SMS to 811. From your SMS application, send an SMS to 811 containing any of the following messages: > STOP, STOPP > STOP ALL, STOPP ALL > STOP SECURITY You will then be told in an SMS from 811 that your Mobile Security subscription has been cancelled and for how long the Mobile Security update service is still available. NB: an SMS with the command STOP ALL or STOPP ALL also deletes the Mobile Security subscriptions on any guest devices (see section 3.4.2).

Information about your Swisscom Mobile Security subscription You can obtain information about your Mobile Security subscription by SMS at any time. By sending an SMS containing certain keywords to 811, you can receive various pieces of information by SMS. 3.4 Subscribing to and cancelling Mobile Security for a guest device 3.4.1 Subscribing to Mobile Security for a guest device (with or without SIM card) With Mobile Security version 7.0 or later, you can also use this application on a mobile device 1. which is permanently operated without a SIM card, or 2. which is not permanently operated with a Swisscom SIM card, or 3. which is operated with a SIM card for another mobile network, or 4. whose monthly Mobile Security subscription fees you would like to pay.

02.2012

You will find your Swisscom Mobile Security version number in the main menu under Options and then About If you have an older version than 7.0, you can download the latest version by selecting Update in the Options menu. If your free 30-day trial has expired, you will be asked to subscribe to Mobile Security. Normally, you subscribe to the service by sending a text message to 811, as described in section 3.1, in order to add the service to your own Swisscom subscription. However, if you wish to operate a mobile device with Mobile Security in any of the four situations described above, you can register your mobile device as a guest device. To do this, you just need a mobile device (host device) with a Swisscom subscription, to which the cost of Mobile Security for your device will be assigned.

Guest Device Swisscom KMU | Mobile Security

Host Device

 1. From the mobile device (host device, see left-hand picture) to which the cost is to be assigned, text START GUEST (

free of charge) to 811 2. Your host device will then receive an initial text message from 811, asking you to send another text message to 811. A second text message from 811 will then immediately arrive with a 12-digit subscription code. 3. You must then confirm the subscription again by texting START to 811 from the host device; otherwise, the subscription will not be activated. 4. The host device will then receive another text message from 811, informing you that the subscription has been activated on the guest device. 5. Select Subscription in the main Mobile Security menu on the mobile device (guest device) on which you want to use the Mobile Security service. Then choose the second payment method, Already have a license? In the following field (see right-hand picture), you can then enter the 12-digit subscription code that was sent to your host device. NB: Your host device can be assigned the cost of several guest devices. 3.4.2 Deactivating (cancelling) Mobile Security for a guest device If the cost of your Mobile Security subscription has been assigned to another mobile device (host device), the service must also be cancelled on the host device concerned. 1. To do this, text STOP GUEST free of charge to 811 from the (host) mobile device to which the cost has been assigned. 2. The host device will then receive a text message from 811, confirming the cancellation for the guest device. NB: Texting STOP GUEST without a subscription code will be treated as an invalid command. Texting STOP GUEST and the subscription code from the guest device also has no effect.

02.2012

3.4.3 Mobile Security details on a guest mobile device You can receive details of your Mobile Security subscription for a guest device at any time via text message by texting the following keywords to 811 from the host device. The relevant information will be texted to your host device. > HELP GUEST or INDEX GUEST: the host device will receive a text message containing details of the service and the cost of the subscription for a guest device. > INFO GUEST: the host device will receive a text message containing the contact details for Swisscom and F-Secure support. > VIEW GUEST: the host device will receive a text message indicating whether or not the Mobile Security subscription for a guest device is still active. NB: if the host device has been assigned the cost for more than one guest device, the subscription code must be entered after the keywords in order to clearly identify the mobile device concerned, e.g. VIEW GUEST . NB: if you send this text message to 811 from the guest device, it will not work. The Mobile Security administrator does not recognise the guest device from its mobile telephone number, but only via the host device.

Mobile Security functions

4.1 Firewall

our phone’s firewall is switched off at the factory (Allow all) so that individual applications that you have used Y before are not blocked by the firewall. However, you should set the firewall to at least the Normal level as soon as possible, in order to protect your phone from hacker attacks. If you subsequently find that applications with an Internet connection no longer work properly, you can optimise the firewall setting so the applications you need function again. You can choose your firewall settings by pressing the Settings button on the main menu and selecting Firewall. You can find more information on firewall settings on the help pages in the Mobile Security firewall section or on the F-Secure support pages. Support information can be found in chapter 4.

4.2 Anti-Theft Anti-Theft protects your data if your phone is lost or stolen, ensuring that it cannot be misused. You can also locate your mobile device if it is equipped with GPS. For Anti-Theft to work, you will need a second mobile device in order to control the Anti-Theft functions on your mobile device. Locking your phone: Anti-Theft can automatically lock your phone if the SIM card is changed. The locked phone can only be unlocked with your security code. How to switch on the phone lock option: 1. Select Settings in the Mobile Security main menu. 2. Select Anti-Theft in the settings menu. 3. Enter a Security code. The code must contain at least 4 characters. Keep it in a safe place. 4. If you would like your phone to be locked if the SIM card is changed, select Yes under Lock when SIM changed.

Using remote Anti-Theft protection: Anti-Theft protection requires you to send an SMS containing your security code from your second mobile device to your lost or stolen mobile device in order to determine its location, lock it or erase the data stored on it.

02.2012

How to switch on the remote lock option: 1. Select Settings in the main menu and press the select key. 2. Select Anti-Theft from the settings menu. 3. If you would like to be able to lock your phone remotely, follow these instructions: a. Enter a security code (at least 4 characters, see picture). b. A ctivate Remote commands if you would like to be able to lock your mobile device remotely or Remote wipe if you would like to be able to erase all the data on your mobile device remotely. The locked phone can only be unlocked with your security code. c. A ctivate Lock when SIM changed if you want your mobile device to be locked if the SIM card is changed. d. A ctivate Report SIM change if you want to be informed if the SIM card has been changed. e. U nder Trusted number, enter a trusted mobile device number from which you can send a text message. You need this mobile device number to lock your own device or wipe your data from it.

Swisscom KMU | Mobile Security

How to lock or reset your phone remotely (Remote Locking): Send the following SMS to your mobile device from your trusted device. > In order to lock your mobile device, send the following SMS: #LOCK# (e.g. #LOCK#abcd1234) > In order to reset your mobile device, send the following SMS: #WIPE# (e.g. #WIPE#abcd1234) Since memory cards are easy to remove, make sure you store your confidential information in your phone memory. You can then lock or erase it using the relevant Anti-Theft options. Anti-Theft does not store any location data. Location information is only found in the SMS that you will receive.

How to locate your lost or stolen mobile phone using your second phone: > In order to locate your mobile device, send it the following SMS from your trusted device: #LOCATE# (e.g. #LOCATE#abcd1234). > The trusted device will then receive an SMS from your lost or stolen mobile device with a link to Google Maps. If you cannot see the location on your second phone, your SMS will at least contain the GPS coordinates most recently recorded by your mobile device. How to send your mobile device’s current location to friends and family: > Select Anti-Theft from the main menu. > Now select Location sharing. > Your mobile device will now take the GPS coordinates from its GPS receiver and create a text message containing a link to its location on Google Maps. > Enter the desired number in the text message’s address line and select Send. > The person who receives the text message can now use the link it contains to view your location or see the GPS coordinates directly in the message.

4.3 Scanning for viruses As soon as Mobile Security has been activated for the first time, you should scan your mobile device for viruses and other malware in order to ensure that your phone is virus-free. You should then always scan your phone whenever the application asks you to. Swisscom Mobile Security will automatically carry out a background scan of all your files. 1. If any malware is found during the real-time scan, a message will appear. Press Yes in order to identify the infected file(s) or No in order to close the message. 2. In the Infections window, you will see a list of infected files that have been found on your phone, as well as the status of each file (under quarantine or released). If you would like to see further details about an infected file, follow the instructions below: 1. Scroll to the infected file and press the select key. 2. Select Show. 3. Details of the infection indicate the path and name of the infected file, as well as the name of the malware which has infected the file.

02.2012

To deal with infected files, follow the instructions below: 1. In the Infections window, scroll to the file that you want to deal with. 2. Press the select key. 3. Choose one of the following options: > Erase – erases the infected file. This is the recommended option. The file will be completely removed from your phone. > Quarantine – places the infected file in quarantine, if it is not already in quarantine. A file in quarantine is blocked and cannot harm your phone if Mobile Security is activated. > Release – releases files held in quarantine. If you release a file, it is no longer blocked. You can open the released file at your own risk.

Automatic updates

Swisscom Mobile Security includes an automatic update service. This ensures that the application’s virus descriptions

database is regularly updated. Only an up-to-date virus descriptions database can protect your phone from the latest viruses and other malware. Automatic updates are carried out after you have activated the product. The application requires an active Internet connection to carry out updates. If an Internet connection is available, Mobile Security checks when the virus descriptions database was last updated and, if necessary, downloads new updates. Note that this involves a transfer of data. Therefore, only allow this function if you are connected to a network in which data transfer costs are included in your subscription.

4.5

Manual updates You can also use the update service manually: 1. Select Virus protection in the Mobile Security program and press the select key. 2. Choose Update now. 3. Select the Internet access button to connect to the update server. Note that this involves a transfer of data. Therefore, only allow this function if you are connected to a network in which data transfer costs are included in your subscription. The latest virus descriptions database will be downloaded and applied immediately. 4. When the update is complete, press Yes in order to check your phone for viruses if you are asked to do so. If a new version of Mobile Security is available, a message will invite you to download it. Following the update, the application will restart automatically.

4.6 Safe Internet use with browser protection Using browser protection, you can evaluate the security level of websites and avoid accidentally visiting dangerous websites. As soon as you visit a website, the product automatically assesses its security level. If the website is classified as suspicious or dangerous, Mobile Security blocks access to it. A website’s security level is based on information from several sources, such as malware analysts and F-Secure partners. Changing browser protection settings: You can choose when browser protection should be activated. Activation depends on the network you are using. This is how you change the product settings: 1. In the Mobile Security main menu, select the Settings option and then Browsing Prot.. 2. Activate browser protection by setting Browsing Prot. to On. Mobile Security will then run in the background whenever you search the Internet. 3. Choose when browser protection should be activated: > All operators – the product checks the security of websites you visit, whatever network you use (see picture). > My operator only - the product only checks the security of websites you visit using your own provider’s network. This setting is no longer available with version 7.0 or later and applies to all operators. The product applies the new settings immediately. Mobile Security may ask you to use the browser that the manufacturer has installed on your phone as standard. In order to ensure optimal protection when surfing the Internet, you should therefore switch to the browser recommended by Mobile Security as standard. You can check your phone’s browser protection status at any time by selecting Browsing Prot. in the Mobile Security main menu. 4.7 Parental Control If you have version 7.0 or later, Swisscom Mobile Security includes parental controls which you can switch on if needed for your children. You can find out which version of Swisscom Mobile Security you have by selecting About in the Options menu. If you have an older version than 7.0, you can download the latest version by selecting Update in the Options menu.

02.2012

Parental Control enables you to restrict the selection of websites available to your child. In the default setting, i.e. after Swisscom Mobile Security is activated, Parental Control is switched off.

Parental Control for teenagers: Activate Parental Control and select Teen from the Age group menu. Under Options and then Edit profile, you will find the pre-set list of enabled and blocked website categories for teenagers. You can change the category list to suit your teenager by checking or unchecking the corresponding boxes in the Allow and Deny columns.

Swisscom KMU | Mobile Security

You can find Parental Control in the Swisscom Mobile Security main menu under Settings ➝ Parental Control or in the main menu under Parental Control ➝ Parental Control settings (see picture). In the Parental Control menu, you can generally switch Parental Control on or off by checking or unchecking the box (first menu item). In order to make any changes to these settings, you will be asked to type in a Security Code which only you (and not your child) should know. If you did not create this code when you switched on Swisscom Mobile Security for the first time, you can do so now.

Parental Control for children (see picture): Activate Parental Control and select Small child from the Age group menu. Under Options and then Edit profile, you will find the pre-set list of enabled and blocked website categories for children. You can change the category list to suit your child by checking or unchecking the corresponding boxes in the Allow and Deny columns. Parental Control for adults: You can select this option as an adult from the Age group menu either to temporarily remove Parental Control for your child or to give your teenager an adult category profile set by you.
