FOCUS Changing Lives Through Literacy

RZWKHVXPPHUKDVÁRZQE\,WKDVEHHQDEXV\WLPHDVWKHPHPbers of our new Provisional class have diligently worked at the Remarkable Shop. The Book Drive project, led by Lisa McConnell had LWVPRVWVXFFHVVIXO\HDUHYHUZLWKPRUHWKDQERRNVFROOHFWHG In addition to the traditional collecting of books for the Book Drive, the committee also applied for several grants through First Book. As a result, JLOC received over 600 new, hard-cover children’s books. The Wild Storytime at the Zoo project, led by Rebecca Holmboe saw 900 children despite the intense heat. The children really enjoyed being able to ask a zookeeper questions and pick out a book after turning in their Eager Reader cards. The Back to School project, led by Macie Craven-Liles has seen nearly 370 kids with an estimated 20% increase from last \HDUJLYLQJXVDWRWDORIIRVWHUFKLOGUHQWKDWZLOOUHFHLYHEDFNSDFNVÀOOHGZLWK VFKRROVXSSOLHV-REZHOOGRQHODGLHV
