MMCAP NEWS May 2013 MMCAP News is issued monthly to provide members with the latest information on the MMCAP program. The newsletter is sent to the MMCAP State Contacts, and they forward it to the member facilities in their state. NATIONAL MEMBER CONFERENCE MMCAP 2014 National Member Conference Planning for the 2014 NMC will begin shortly and we are currently forming the NMC Planning Committee. If you are interested in serving on this committee please contact Daniel Callahan, [email protected]. The conference facility RFP has been drafted and sent to the Advisory Board for review; results of this solicitation will identify exact location and dates. ADVISORY BOARD NEWS Mid-Year Advisory Board Meeting A mid-year meeting of the MMCAP Leadership Team and the Advisory Board is planned for October 8 and 9. The meeting will be a strategic planning session to finalize MMCAP goals for the next one or two years. Details of the meeting structure will be shared as they are developed. MARKETING & COMMUNICATIONS Website Training Presentation For those interested in learning a bit more about the ins and outs of MMCAP.org, a training presentation has been created and posted online. The goal of the website tutorial is to help members navigate the MMCAP website and become aware of the value-added programs. The Website Training Presentation may be viewed by anyone, without logging in to the MMCAP website, www.MMCAP.org by selecting Member News from the top banner then selecting the icon labeled Website Training Presentation. State Contact Binders We are developing MMCAP binders for all of our State Contacts, as a quick reference guide to aid in performing the duties of an MMCAP State Contact and to help you with transition of responsibility and education for supervisors, legislators and member agencies. If you have ideas or suggestions for reference materials you might find particularly helpful, please contact Communications Coordinator Daniel Callahan at [email protected]. Field Services: Senior Account Executives The Senior Account Executives in the East, Southeast and Northwest have been active in the field for a few weeks now and have met with many of the MMCAP State Contacts and wholesaler representatives, and plan to schedule meetings with members in their territories. If you have questions about the role of the MMCAP Senior Account Executives, contact Carolyn O’Donnell at [email protected].

VACCINE PROGRAM Research Grant Opportunity Pfizer, a contracted MMCAP vendor, has released information regarding the ASPIRE Grants for Adult Vaccine Research, a program Pfizer supports in efforts to advance “medical knowledge of vaccines and vaccine-preventable diseases.” For more information, visit www.aspireresearch.org. NON-PHARMACEUTICAL PROGRAM Medical Supply Vendor Webpages We reached out to our contracted Medical Supply vendors – Medline, McKesson, Henry Schein, PSS World Medical and Cardinal Health – to offer them the opportunity to create a MMCAPspecific webpage to streamline the process of purchasing on contract. To date, the offer has been accepted by at least one of our vendors and links will be or do already appear on the Medical Supply page on www.MMCAP.org. Any questions or comments can be directed to Jim Losinski, Medical Supply Program Coordinator, at [email protected]. MONTHLY MEMBER CALL PRESENTATION Want in discussing your facilities approach to public health initiatives? Want to share a success story? We’re looking for volunteers to lead a short presentation/discussion during this month’s member call. If you’re interested and willing, please contact Communications Coordinator Daniel Callahan at [email protected]. PHARMACEUTICAL PROGRAM Generic Pharmaceutical and OTC Products RFP The new generic pharmaceutical contracts will be in place on July 1, 2013. MMCAP is currently working with contracted pharmaceutical vendors and wholesalers to ensure contracts are properly loaded and contracted product is available for purchase on July 1. To prepare for a smooth transition to the pharmaceuticals awarded in the RFP, MMCAP recommends alerting all impacted staff of the July 1st conversion and preparing for implementation processes. Over the next several weeks MMCAP and the wholesalers will provide information on tools that can be used to manage the new contracts, including reporting features, shelf labels and contact information. Please log into the MMCAP website then click on Member News, MMCAP News, Pharmaceutical Wholesaler Program for updated information. eAudit Contract Extended MMCAP’s contract with eAudit Solutions was extended to Jan. 31, 2014. An RFP for contract price auditing services was released earlier this year, but MMCAP found it necessary to reissue the RFP. The new RFP for contract price auditing services is due on May 15, 2013. 340B GPO Prohibition Deadline Extension The Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) extended the deadline for disproportionate share hospitals (DSH), children’s hospitals, and freestanding cancer hospitals to make certain their drug replenishment practices comply with the GPO policy release to Aug. 7, 2013. MMCAP members that participate in the 340B program and are classified as DSH, children’s hospitals, and freestanding cancer hospitals must work with their wholesalers to make sure no accounts are attached to MMCAP contract pricing. According to HRSA, no additional extensions will be granted beyond the August 7 date. For more information, please visit the HRSA website: http://www.hrsa.gov/opa/faqs/
