OCTOBER 30th TO NOVEMBER 2nd, 2016

On the occasion of the visit by the Danish Minister for Business and Growth to Dubai, during the Dubai Maritime Days, The Royal Danish Embassy in Abu Dhabi, the Consulate General in Dubai, the Danish Export Association Marine Group, Danish Maritime, the Danish Shipowners Association and the Ministry of Business and Growth; is pleased to invite Danish companies in the maritime industry to participate in special maritime business program.

DANISH MARITIME PROMOTION VISIT TO DUBAI 2016 WHY DUBAI? Dubai has an ambitious growth strategy for the maritime industry. Recently the Government launched the Dubai Maritime Strategy in which the aim is to become the main global hub for the maritime industry. Almost everything in Dubai is imported and the UAE accounts for 1% of the global imports. There are more than 170,000 port calls in the Middle East per year as well as a growing offshore industry. This has fostered the establishment of numerous shipyards, repair and salvage facilities. Add to this the numerous low and non-tax areas which have enabled a large number of international and local ship owners and operators to establish locally, Dubai is an increasingly important hub for the Danish – and global – maritime industry.

DUBAI MARITIME DAYS From 31st October to 2nd November 2016 the Dubai Maritime City Authorities is hosting the Dubai Maritime Days. The main event during these days is the SeaTrade exhibition, featuring the International Ship Suppliers Associations (ISSA) Exhibition, attracting some 7,500 participants and exhibitors from all over the world. The maritime days culminate with a Maritime Summit on 2nd November featuring international keynote speakers and roundtable discussions on current topics in the industry.

SOME FACTS  The maritime industry accounts for around 4.5% of the UAE GDP (or 3.92B USD),  More than 75,000 jobs are created locally from the maritime industry,  DP World (UAE Company) is the third largest ports operator in the world with 65 terminals across the world,  Between 2003 and 2013 the port activity in Dubai grew by 150%,  Jebel Ali Port (Dubai) has a capacity of more than 19 million TEU per annum,  Increased regional activity in the coming years, from significant projects in Oman, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Iran,

VISIT BY THE DANISH MINISTER The Danish Minister for Business and Growth, Mr. Troels Lund Poulsen, is scheduled to visit Dubai on the first two days of the Maritime Week, 30-31 October 2016. During these days a business delegation program has been developed to promote the participating delegation and to showcase maritime Denmark. The program is described in more detail on the next page, and it consists of two parts:  

TENTATIVE PROGRAM The visit will take place on October 30th and 31st, 2016. The delegation program consists of two main elements, a Maritime Promotion Day and the SeaTrade Exhibtion. There is also an option for company specific activities to be organised, I.E. B2B meetings, site visits, etc. Please refer to the last page for more information and contact details. SUNDAY 30th OCTOBER – MARITIME PROMOTION DAY The program for the first day is to give a comprehensive introduction to the Dubai maritime industry and to create a symposium for showcasing Danish maritime solutions and concepts for relevant key stakeholders and representatives from the local maritime industry. The Minister is scheduled to participate in the whole program with the delegation. DANISH MARITIME PROMOTION VISIT TO DUBAI 2016 THE “DUBAI – DENMARK MARITIME SYMPOSIUM” The main element of the program on the first day with the Minister is a Denmark – Dubai Maritime Symposium to showcase Danish maritime solutions and products to relevant stakeholders and decision makers in the local maritime industry and government. The Consulate General will ensure that the invitations are sent to relevant stakeholders, partners and representatives for maximum outcome for the participating companies. Relevant cluster organisations and business associations will be considered for the invitations, such as; -

Dubai Shipagents Associations, National Freight & Logistics Association, Dubai Council for Marine & Maritime Industry, United Arab Emirates Shipowners Association,

Participating companies may have the option to nominate invitees. For this, please consult with the Consulate to facilitate. The venue for the event will be the offices of the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry which will also assist to invite and match participants from the local maritime community based on the participating companies from Denmark.

DANISH MARITIME PROMOTION VISIT TO DUBAI 2016 MONDAY 31st OCTOBER – SEATRADE EXHIBITION In cooperation with Danish Export Association’s Marine Group, the Embassy of Denmark and the Danish Consulate General in Dubai are organising a pavilion of Denmark at the SeaTrade exhibition. The Minister will be participating in the grand opening of the exhibition. In addition there is a tour for the Minister with a VIP group from the UAE Government and the local maritime industry that will visit the pavilion of Denmark after the grand opening. During this visit to the pavilion there will be a short reception and a further opportunity to promote the participating companies. Below is a short description of the day program: Grand Opening of the Exhibition with the Danish Minister Visit and reception from the Minister and the SeaTrade VIP delegation at the pavilion of Denmark At the SeaTrade Exhibition (networking, attending the conference program, etc.)

After the reception at the pavilion the Minister will leave for a separate program and departs back to Denmark in the afternoon. The conference program for the first day is a morning session from 12:00 – 13:30. It is a panel discussion titled: “Economic Forum: Challenges and Prospects” featuring international experts and thought leaders from a variety of industry backgrounds. In the evening, SeaTrade is organising the SeaTrade Maritime Awards dinner. This dinner is held at Atlantis hotel on the Palm Jumeirah and features more than 800 key stakeholders form the maritime industry in the Middle East region. It is possible to purchase tables of 10 seats or individual tickets. Please contact the Consulate General in Dubai for more information about this.

TUESDAY 1st NOVEMBER – SEATRADE EXHIBITION For the third day the plan for the delegation is to be at the SeaTrade exhibition. A Consulate representative will remain at the pavilion and assist the participants to attract relevant stakeholders to visit the pavilion. The conference program for the second day consists of two sessions in the afternoon. The first session runs from 13:00 to 15:00 and is titled: “Shipping and environmental challenges: Critical issues in an ever-changing seascape”. This interactive session will assess and examine the Middle East and its role in the international maritime community. The legal and technical challenges and developments will be examined as well as the likely changes that the industry will be compelled to introduce over the short, medium and long-term. This session will evaluate the critical issues related to:  

Ballast water management & the prevention of marine pollution through the dumping of waste and other harmful substances. Atmospheric pollution and marine fuel management.

DANISH MARITIME PROMOTION VISIT TO DUBAI 2016 The second session runs from 15:30 to 17:30 and is titled: “Crewing – The vital interface: Current scenario, challenges and solutions”. The interactive session will address ongoing issues, challenges and advantages facing the maritime industry, including topics like:      

The role of human behaviour in safety at sea Contract ‘sweeteners’ through the offering of long-term job security and a more favourable balance for leave entitlement Offering schemes to encourage more young people from the region to choose a career in the industry NOC mandating local workforce involvement Higher funding for industry relevant university, and diploma courses as well as increasing the number of apprenticeships Identifying both new and investing in, international crew supply markets

WEDNESDAY 2nd NOVEMBER – SEATRADE EXHIBITION For the final day the plan for the delegation is to be at the SeaTrade exhibition. A Consulate representative will remain at the pavilion and assist the participants to attract relevant stakeholders to visit the pavilion. It is also possible to organize targeted company activities, for example B2B meetings, site visit, or promotion events. The conference program for the final day consists of a morning session and an afternoon session both titled “SeaTrade Tanker Middle East”. The morning session runs from 10:30-12:30 and relates to two main topics: 



Crude oil tanker market: A comprehensive discussion on the fundamentals of the market, looking at the pattern of supply growth, the factors influencing demand, and what this may mean for earnings. Factors to be considered to include the impact of oil price movements and geo-politics on the pattern of trade and ton-mile demand, the size of the order book and the likely scale of new contracting, slow steaming with a strong emphasis on the ME region, and the outlook for its principal players. Product tanker trading: An analysis of the factors influencing the shape of product tanker demand and those driving it, including refining, and the composition of the order book. How will these fundamentals affect rates across all vessel sizes? A focus on how the market is shaping up in respect of ME interests.

The afternoon session runs from 14:30 to 16:30 and relates to the topics listed below:

Operating efficiency: The scope for operational efficiencies for tanker companies without affecting the integrity and safety of operations. Training and education: The development of education and training across the ME region and its importance for the future of the maritime sector Port and terminal development: Terminal operations for safety and efficiency The green agenda for the tanker industry: How existing and future regulation will affect how tanker fleets will be operated in the future.

Furthermore, there is an option for the delegation participants to attend the Dubai Maritime Summit, organized by the Dubai Maritime City Authorities, which is taking place simultaneously as SeaTrade on the final day. The program for this summit consists of several high level international keynote speakers (the Director General of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) is confirmed) followed by round table discussions. Some of the topics are listed below:       

The state of the global industry, China one belt strategy, Panama Canal expansion, The new Suez Canal, Global shipping markets, Arbitration, innovation in shipping technology, Maritime regulation.

In the evening there is an awards gala dinner and more details about this dinner will be provided to the participants in the kick-off meeting.
