113th Military Ball

UPCOMING

I ,

The 113th University of Iowa Military Ball was held on 21 February 2016 on the 2nd floor of the historic Iowa Memorial Union. Held every year during the Spring semester, the University of Iowa ROTC Military Ball is the longest running formal event held annually on the Iowa campus. There were approximately 110 cadets and guests present for the evening festivities.

Alumni and Honored Guests at the 113th Military Ball. First Row: LTC (r) David Deyak (Former PMS), LTC Zach Buettner (‘97; Current PMS), Dr. Lon Moeller (Deputy Provost and Dean of the Undergraduate College), CPT Korey Keuhl (’08), LTC (r) Anthony Wolf (‘85). Second Row: 1LT Bryce Parker (’10), COL (r) Dave Lewis (’89), Jeff Kueter (President of the UIAA), COL Rob Hedgepeth (‘88; President MHBAA), MAJ Jamie Clausen (’07)

Brigadier General Stephen Farmen, Commanding General of the Joint Munitions Command at Rock Island Arsenal, was the guest speaker. BG Farmen was commissioned as a Transporta-

tion officer, and later served as the Chief of Transportation and the Commanding General of the 19th Expeditionary Sustainment Command, Korea. We were privileged to have several alumni, National Guard lead-

ers, and University dignitaries present. Alumni present included COL Rob Hedgepeth, COL Dave Lewis, MAJ Jamie Clausen, and Mr. Tony Wolf. Colonel Timothy Glynn, the G1 for the IA ARNG was also present. University guests were the Deputy Provost, Dr. Lon Moeller, and the University of Iowa Alumni Association President Mr. Jeff Kueter and his wife Tracy.

Thanks to generous donations on the part of Alumni and other friends of the program, we were able to subsidize the cost of every Cadet’s admission. We hope to continue this trend again next year.

Department Information With summer approaching again, we have some personnel changes occurring soon at the Mighty Hawkeye Battalion. Mr. Allen Moore, our HRA, transferred to the Veterans Administration this year. We have nearly completed the hiring process for our new HRA- and we hope it will be a familiar name. CPT Rodney Bunyan was selected for promotion to Major and will be attending ILE at Fort Leavenworth, KS. While

we will miss him, we wish him luck with this PCS. All of our other cadre are remaining until next summer, and will be rotating through Cadet Summer Training (CST) at Fort Knox, KY. During the first weekend in April the Mighty Hawkeye Battalion sent 51 Cadets to Camp Dodge for the annual spring FTX. The FTX was a joint operation conducted with Northern Iowa, Iowa State, University of

Nebraska—Lincoln and Creighton University. The underclassmen from all five schools were broken down and divided into different platoons. The Hawkeye seniors operated a Company HQ with three platoons. The Company HQ then ran the platoons through a series of five tactical scenarios. This is the capstone collective training exercise that prepares the Juniors for CST at Fort Knox, KY.

UI Wrestling Military Appreciation Night On 5 February 2016, the University of Iowa Wrestling team hosted Military Night during their duel meet with Indiana. Military ID card holders received free admission to the meet and T-shirts were given away to the first 500 fans. The Hawkeye grapplers didn’t disappoint the crowd as they whipped the Hoosiers 45-0.
