Network Camera Edge Storage Manual - Video Recording and Playback with SD / Micro SD Card -

Caution

This manual is for cameras with the Ver1.9.2 firmware. To use the Edge Storage function ( recording or playing back the video using an SD / microSD memory card ), upgrade the firmware to Ver1.9.2 or higher beforehand.

4. Playback, Saving, and Deleting of Recorded Video

1. About the Edge Storage Function 1-1. Introducing the Edge Storage function This is a function to record the image and audio to the memory card installed in the SD / microSD memory card slot in the camera, and to stream using the same protocol as live video and audio from the alarm detection result such as network disconnect. Refer to the Installation Manual accompanying the camera for installing the memory card to the camera.

1-2. Precautions when using the Edge Storage function 

Insertion and replacement of the memory card should be performed when the power of the camera is turned off. Also, always stop the recording of Edge Storage before turning off the power of the camera.

Stop the recording of Edge Storage when turning off the power of the camera when the memory card is inserted.

Format the memory card with “SD Formatter” supplied by SD Association before using a memory card.

The maximum number of video recording that can be stored in the memory card is 500. New recording will be stopped when the number of recording reaches 500 if [Overwrite] is not selected. Recording will be overwritten from the oldest one when the number of recording reaches 500 if [Overwrite] is selected.

Overwrite cannot be set with the memory card less than 4 GB.

The recorded data may become very large and video or image may be interrupted depending on the recording setting or the scene when recording with video codec H.264 set to VBR (CBR off). Confirm the video codec setting and environment before operation.

The frame rate for the monitor image of the viewer and the operability will decrease when recording video or still picture.

The interval of the still pictures actually being recorded may become longer than what is set.

We assume no responsibility for any damage caused by destruction of record data, etc.

Each memory card has a limited life span. It may not record correctly when used for a long period of time, so please replace with a new memory card in such a case.

Each memory card has a limited life span and the usage with constant recording affects the life span of a memory card more than the event recording, so it is recommended to operate with event recording.

1

1-3.SD / Micro SD card that can be used Use the SDHC card that is CLASS 10 and compatible with the operation guarantee temperature of 85 degrees or higher when recording with the Edge Storage function. The recording may not be performed correctly when the SDHC card not compatible with this condition is used. This does not guarantee the operation of all the SDHC cards compatible with this condition. We have confirmed the operation of the SanDisk Extreme Series SD / microSD memory cards.

2. Recommended Setting when Using the Edge Storage Function It is required to take caution on the setting for the video codec, etc., so the camera performance will not affect the recorded video when using the Edge Storage function. The following table is a guide for setting the video codec so the camera performance will not affect the recorded video. However, it still may affect the recorded video even if it is the recommended setting depending on the installed environment of the camera or the condition of the usage, so perform sufficient tests before starting the operation. A caution is also required since the maximum number of video that can be stored on the memory card is 500 due to the camera specification. As an example, if it is operated to record a video for 1 minute linked to motion detection, no more recording will be performed once the number of video has reached 500 unless “Overwrite” of Edge Storage is selected. To avoid this, select “Overwrite” of Edge Storage and adjust the pre-alarm and post-alarm time for the recording time. Refer to next “3. How to Use the Edge Storage Function” for details.

3. Using the Edge Storage Function There are 2 types of recording, constant recording that will continuously record to the memory card and event recording that will record based on the camera schedule or trigger input for the Edge Storage function. The setting methods for Edge Storage are described based on the recommended setting of the video codec for each of the recording method. Also, each memory card has a limited life span and the usage with constant recording affects the life span of a memory card more than the event recording, so it is recommended to operate with event recording.
