FEATURE PRODUCT OF THE MONTH Sebastian Trilliance Shampoo and Conditioner

Formulated using Rock Crystal extract, Trilliance creates a dazzling foundation by cleansing and polishing hair to an absolute diamond shine. Here's what Michael's Stylists are saying: "After using Trilliance, my heat-damaged and lightened hair was brought back to life. The shine is unbelievable (it's NEVER been this shiny) and my hair feels healthier than ever. I LOVE this stuff!!" - Kimberly "My fashion colours have never looked more brilliant. It's as if the shampoo reinforced the vibrancy, and made my hair bouncy and shinier than I've ever seen it!" - Christina

Want a head of healthy, shiny hair for yourself? Follow these few tips to get the most shine possible: Shiny Hair Tip #1: Rinse with Cool Water Rinsing with cool water may not feel pleasant in the shower, but it will do wonders for the shininess of your hair! Putting your hair through a cool rinse will further close the cuticles on the hair shaft, making them lie flatter, and therefore making the hair smoother and more likely to reflect shine.

Shiny Hair Tip #2: Indulge in a Deep Conditioning Treatment Did you know that the whole purpose of a conditioner is to close the cuticle of the hair and to add missing nutrients and moisture? A little science: acidity regulators in conditioners maintain the conditioner's pH at about 3.5. In contact with an acidic environment (your hair after it has been shampooed), the hair's scaly surface tightens up, as the hydrogen bonds between the keratin molecules are strengthened, producing a smooth, shiny result. Shiny Hair Tip #3: Dry Gently Using a Towel Never rub your head vigorously with a towel after washing and conditioning, as that will rough up the cuticles of the hair and give it a dull look. Instead, very gently blot and squeeze the excess water out, then allow hair to air dry as much as possible after combing. Shiny Hair Tip #4: Invest in Professional Haircare Salon quality hair care products have much more of the proteins and vitamins that your hair needs to stay healthy, and much less of the dulling and damaging ingredients found in drugstore products. Drugstore brands will usually use one of the following: ammonium laurel sulfate, ammonium laureth sulfate, or sodium laurel sulfate. These three types of lathering agents will produce a richer lather, but they are MUCH harder on your scalp and hair. You will find that most salon brands use the gentlest kinds of lathering agents despite that fact that it produces less lather. This allows your hair and scalp to remain healthy, making hair grow faster and stronger. Achieving beautiful and shiny hair does not have to cost a lot of money nor does it need to be time consuming. By following some simple and easy shiny hair tips you will be on your way to a gorgeous, shiny head of hair!

ASK THE PROS Why does hair turn grey? The age at which you begin to see 'sparkles' of grey is genetically predetermined. However, the rate at which the greying progresses is somewhat under your own control. Smoking is known to increase the rate of greying. Anemia, generally poor nutrition, insufficient B vitamins, and untreated thyroid conditions can also speed the rate of greying. What causes your hair's colour to actually change? That has to do with the process controlling the production of the pigment called melanin, the same pigment that tans your skin in response to sunlight. Ready for some science? Every hair follicle contains pigment cells called melanocytes. Their job is to pass the melanin to cells which produce keratin, the chief protein in hair. When the keratin-producing cells (keratinocytes) die, they retain the colouring from the melanin. When you first start to go gray, the melanocytes are still present, but they become less active. Less pigment is deposited into the hair so it appears lighter. As graying progresses, the melanocytes die off until there aren't any cells left to produce the color. How often should I wash my hair? There is no cut and dry (ha!) answer to this question. If you are trying to preserve a brand new colour, it is recommended to wash your hair as little as possible, and with the gentlest professional products as possible. For some people, this can be every second day, or once a week. If you don't have concerns about colour, it will mostly depend on your hair's texture and how your scalp feels. If your hair is very fine and your scalp is oily, you will need to shampoo more often. If your hair is course and dry, shampoo less, and brush your hair more. This will distribute your scalp's natural oils and moisturizers throughout, leaving you with softer, shinier hair.
