Schoolhouse Un Mensaje de Srta. Maria del Rocio A Message from Srta. Maria del Rocio Hello Parents, March was a great month! We had the opportunity to take care of insects. Before spring break, we saw the butterfly and ladybug larvae. When we came back, we witnessed the metamorphosis as they had transformed and the butteflies were in cocoons and the ladybugs’ bodies were changing shapes. Then within a week, the butterflies had come out of their cocoons and the ladybugs had their spots. We then set them free! It was great to see the whole transformation process! We also had a visit from the leprechaun for St. Patrick’s Day. We followed his footprints and found the coins and prize at the end of the rainbow! April has arrived with more fun activities. Since it is also Earth day, we will have different projects with recycled materials and activities to learn more about our planet. We hope to see you at our Children’s week activities which will include crazy week, a carnival and bike parade. We will also be participating in the St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital Trike-a-thon.

¿Sabías Que? Did you Know….? The Andes Mountains extend from North to South through seven countries: Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Venezuela. El Salvador is the smallest and most densely populated country in continental America. It is called the “Pulgarcito de America” which means the “Tom Thumb of America”. The highest waterfall in the world is Salto Angel (Angel Falls) in Venezuela. It was discovered by and named for American aviator Jimmie Angel.

There was a toad, toad, toad That swam in the river, river, river With his green, green, green suit He was freezing, freezing, freezing Mrs. Toad, toad, toad Told me That she had a friend And that it was you! And you and you….

Hello!

MRS DREW’S ENGLISH NEWS

In March we celebrated Dr. Seuss’s birthday by reading some of his fun books! We also loved learning about bugs and their life cycles. Wearing green helped us learn about the letter G while we celebrated St. Patrick’s Day. We also saw green outside as we learned about the seasons changing from winter to spring and the rainy weather helped the grass and trees start to grow and bloom again. Discussing R was really rad as we looked for rainbows in the sky, and remembered the “gold” that we found at the end of one, left there by the friendly leprechaun. ;) We are excited for Easter to arrive as we learned about the letter E and eggs, as well as rabbits when we discussed the letter R. April showers will bring May flowers as we discuss letter F. We will also learn about recycling, Earth Day, and the letters K and Z. Please remember to encourage your child to complete the page of English homework sent home each week to help reinforce learning at home and in preparation for the end of year evaluations. We want to help our students establish good habits and realize that homework can be fun as it will be part of their learning careers and for years to come. Thus they get a sticker and checkmark when they complete each week’s task and get a bigger sticker for bringing homework back every week in a month. If you are having struggles or concerns, we have some helpful ideas to share with you! We hope you enjoyed your spring break! Thanks!

Parents’ Corner Trike-a-thon for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital What is St. Jude Trike-A-Thon? St. Jude Trike-A-Thon is a fun, week-long safety curriculum and fundraising program that supports St. Jude. The program is a great way to teach children valuable riding-toy safety lessons, which they learn from Bikewell Bear® and Pedals the Bunny® through educational materials provided by St. Jude. At the end of the week, children bring their riding toys to school to celebrate the lessons they have learned and their fundraising success for St. Jude.

How does the event work? Parents help their children gain sponsorships from family, friends and coworkers through offline and online fundraising. Children learn riding-toy safety lessons during the St. Jude Trike-A-Thon week. At the end of the week, participants bring their riding toys to the St. Jude Trike-A-Thon event and practice the safety lessons they have learned. Children can earn fun prizes based upon their fundraising success.

Love and Logic® What’s My Tone of Voice? If you're like most of us, the daily stress and exertion of life can take its toll on your patience and your tone of voice with the ones you love the very most. Everyone faces this challenge on a daily basis. While we can't take the stress out of living, we can do our best to remember a few key things: Expecting no stress creates more. Knowing that life is stressful for all of us…and that this is the standard state of affairs…can go a long way toward helping us avoid being overwhelmed by it. If you take a Love and Logic class, you'll see that you are not alone. Seeing purpose in stress creates hope. Every difficulty we face can either erode us or grow us. When we look for the growth and learning opportunities each trial brings, our perspective remains far more positive. Remember daily that our kids are looking to us for calm leadership. As we all know, kids take their emotional cues from the adults around them. When we can keep ourselves positive in the face of stress, will our kids be more likely to do the same? When we can talk to them in a tone that truly communicates our love for them, will they respond in far more positive ways? Don't expect yourself or your kids to be perfect. We all get snippy and snappy from time to time. Forgiveness is a wonderful thing!

A Few Reminders Recycling Project Reduce, Re-use, & Recycle!! We will be learning about recycling and taking care of our planet this month. Each class will make a project out of recycled materials – watch for a note to see what recycled materials your class would like donated. We invite you to come and see our display during Earth Week!

PETTING ZOO Cathy’s Critters will be visiting us on Wednesday, April 6 and Thursday, April 7. In order for students to participate in the petting zoo, parents must sign the authorization form. The forms will be located in the office with the sign in sheets.
