2ND ANNUAL PROMOTING PEACE CONFERENCE The 2nd annual Promoting Peace conference is now being planned. This event is a collaboration between Owatonna, Steele County and Waseca members of law enforcement, prosecutors, defense attorneys, victim advocates, Connections visitation and exchange center and the Judiciary in the 3rd Judicial District. The public is invited to attend and there is no cost to participate. The training will be held in Owatonna on Thursday, September 29 at the at the Owatonna Public Utilities building and in Waseca on Friday, September 30, 2016 at the Starfire Event Center. More information will be provided on the event as details become available. SKYWARN SPOTTER TRAINING Waseca County Emergency Management is seeking individuals interested in getting trained as a spotter for the SKYWARN Spotter network. Two classes are being held on Monday March 28, 2016 at the Waseca County Courthouse East Annex. The classes will be held from 1:30 – 4:30 and from 6:30 – 9:30. Those interested can contact the Waseca County Emergency Management Office at 835-0690 or email [email protected]. The flier on the training from Waseca County Emergency Management is attached and contains additional information.

COMMUNITY READS: The Great Gatsby AT THE WASECA PUBLIC LIBRARY Waseca-Le Sueur Regional Library System is sponsoring a Community Reads program centered around F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby. The Community Reads program is designed to deepen an appreciation and celebrate the joys of reading as well as encourage friends, families, and neighbors to share their experience while reading the same book. The project is intended to engage the community in dialogue and seeks to bring the community together by promoting tolerance and understanding about differing points of view. Explore F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby through three events (included below) meant to stimulate a community conversation. The book is available for checkout at Waseca Public Library. Sponsored by E.F. Johnson Foundation and Rosenau Legacy of Angels Endowment Fund. UPCOMING WASECA LIBRARY EVENT The Waseca-Le Sueur Regional Library System is hosting upcoming events at the Waseca Public Library. Enjoy deliciously gross snacks, play Zombies vs. Humans in Trowbridge Park and learn basic zombie make-up. Event is free and open to ages 13-18. • Wednesday, March 16th at 12:00 PM – TEDx: Waseca Public Library is holding a monthly series of TED Talks events combining short TED Talks videos from some of the most exceptional speakers on the planet and thoughtful, local discussions. Bring your lunch and prepare to be inspired at this free event. This month’s theme is Community.

Thursday, March 19th at 10:00 AM – Wee Be Jammin’: Time to boogie at Waseca Public Library. Parents and their kids ages 2-5 are invited to a preschool dance party! Shake, shimmy, and dance along! Monday, March 21st at 6:30 PM – Mother-Daughter Book Club: Girls in grades 3-6 are invited to bring a significant adult female to join them as we discuss great new books, do activities, and enjoy treats. Stop by the library to pick up this month’s book, I am Princess X by Cherie Priest. Monday, March 21st at 6:30 PM – Putting on the Fritz: Willie Thompson, Director of the Fitzgerald Museum, will speak about F. Scott Fitzgerald’s life and legacy at the Waseca Public Library. Free and open to the public. Monday, March 22nd at 6:00 PM – LED Jumble Box Lab: Teens can make their own LED Jumble Box game and play against their friends for the hgiest score. This event is free and open to ages 1318. Wednesday, March 23rd from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM – Early Out Event: Space Camp: At Waseca Public Library’s next Early Out event, explore the solar system, go on a moon walk and build a rocket. Snacks will be provided. This event is geared for grades K-6. Due to limited space, registration is required. Stop by the Library to register or call 507-835-2910. Monday, March 28th at 7:00 PM – The Great Gatsby Book Discussion: Obsession, entitlement, carelessness and the American Dream. Share your thoughts about The Great Gatsby at the Waseca Public Library. Free and open to the public. Tuesday, March 29th at 6:30 PM – Gatsby Party: Enjoy music by The Jazz10 Quartet, trivia, dancing lessons with Brian and Lynette Dawley, a fashion exhibit featuring 1920’s clothing from the Waseca County Historical Society and Blue Earth County Historical Society and refreshments.
