A member wishing to take part in any club events will be deemed to be a full member, except second claim members. Those only wishing to be involved in social events including the use a club room need only subscribe as social members. Membership of British Cycling or the CTC is COMPULSORY for members under the age of 18 years, and is also strongly recommended for others.
BRITISH CYCLING British Cycling has 3 levels of membership as below. It is recommended that club members do not consider the Bronze option as the benefits are minimal. The Gold and Silver options give Legal Advice & Support and 3rd Party (Public) Liability Insurance. The Gold Option gives Personal Accident Insurance whilst riding at any time and the Silver option gives Personal Accident Insurance only while participating in a British Cycling event

Members are reminded that CLUB SUBS ARE DUE ON OR BEFORE 31st DECEMBER each year. Competitors not paying their club subscriptions will not be permitted to take part in club racing events. Members under the age of 12 years are not permitted to compete in racing events on the open road. If a member has British Cycling or CTC membership, it is particularly important to renew on time, as failure will mean that the member is out of benefit from that date and any insurance claims will be void. Members only wishing to compete in Time Trials do not need a British Cycling Racing Licence.
Club Constitution 1
The name of the club shall be Melton Olympic Cycling Club.

The management of the club shall be by committee, consisting of the club officials, plus sufficient committee members to make a total of twelve (12), all to be elected at the Annual General meeting. Committee meetings shall be called at least five times a year by the general secretary, five to form a quorum.

The club officials shall be Chairman, General Secretary, Competitions Secretary, Treasurer, Captain, Social Secretary, Junior Representative, Publicity Secretary, Youth Coaching and Committee members. All of the above will sit on the committee. Other Officials shall be elected by the committee, these being auditors, Vice captains, delegates, timekeepers, handicappers and event secretaries.

All nominations for Committee members shall be submitted to the General Secretary with proposer and seconder at least one week prior to an Annual General Meeting. If no nomination is received for a particular post nominations will be taken by the chairman at the Annual General Meeting. To be eligible for a position on the Club Committee, the nominee must have been a Full First Claim Member of the club for a minimum 2 years.

Membership of the Club shall be open to anyone interested in the sport on application regardless of sex, age, disability, ethnicity, nationality, sexual orientation, religion or other beliefs. However, limitation of membership according to available facilities is allowable on a non-discriminatory basis.

The Club may have different classes of membership and subscription on a non-discriminatory and fair basis. The Club will keep subscriptions at levels that will not pose a significant obstacle to people participating.

Membership will be open to first and second claim members, those wishing to become a member shall complete an application form and submit this with the correct membership fee after having been proposed and seconded by two full members. The application shall be considered by the committee at the next meeting. If the applicant is not elected the membership fees shall be returned.

Upon a two-thirds majority of those present, the Club Committee may refuse membership, or remove it, only for good cause such as conduct or character likely to bring the Club or sport into disrepute. Appeal against refusal or removal may be made to the committee.

Each member will receive a receipt and a copy of the club rules / constitution upon payment of membership fees. Membership will continue until 31st December of that year. New members elected after 30th September will be entitled to the privileges of full membership until 31st December of the following year.

Any member not paying their membership fee by 1st April of each year shall be deemed to have resigned and to have forfeited all rights and privileges occurring from membership.

No member shall be allowed to take part in any club events unless they are clear in the books of the club.

The clubs financial year shall commence on the 1st November and end 31st October after which date the Treasurer shall prepare the Balance sheet and Subsidiary accounts, which shall be audited by two auditors appointed by the committee. The Treasurer will also produce accounts of the Club during the current financial year as the committee shall decide.

There shall be held at least once a year an Annual General meeting of the members of the club, at which every paid up member shall be eligible to vote. Fourteen days notice shall be given to each member prior to such a meeting. The agenda shall be finalised three weeks before each meeting and forwarded to each member in advance. Minutes from the AGM shall be made available on request within two months of the meeting.

The members will elect a Committee including Chair, Treasurer and Secretary to serve until the next AGM.

The Committee will present a report on the activities of the Club since the previous AGM.

The Members will discuss and vote on any resolution (whether about policy or to change the rules) and deal with any business put to the meeting.

A General Meeting may be called upon the request of the Committee, or by the General Secretary upon the request of at least five members. Notice of such a meeting to be forwarded with an agenda to each member not less than seven days before such a meeting.

No alteration to the club rules will be made without the consent of a two thirds majority at a General meeting. Rules of the club competitions may be changed by simple majority at any General meeting.

The committee shall have powers to make bye-laws and decide disputes not provided for by the club rules.

The committee should manage the financial affairs of the club within the constraints of the AGM.

Any member resigning or leaving the club for any reason shall forfeit any claim to club property or trophies, returning them to the club secretary prior to his or her departure.

Only first claim members shall be eligible for club prizes and trophies. All Club and Open events to count towards club competitions. Open events to be subject to ratification by official result sheet.

Members holding club trophies will be responsible for their safe keeping, returning them no less than one month before the annual prize presentation. All prizes and trophies to be presented at the club prize presentation

The club shall be affiliated to British Cycling, Cycling Time Trials and Burton and District Cycling Alliance.

All members under the age of eighteen will be required to complete a form giving parental consent before taking part in club activities. Each form must be witnessed by a club official. Designated runs will be organised to cater for younger riders of varying ability. These runs will be lead by club members with the appropriate child protection training.

The club captain (or in his absence a vice-captain) shall be in charge of all club runs, keep a record of attendance and set a reasonable pace. The rules of the road to be adhered to at all times. The club captain with advice from the committee will provide a list of club run destinations which will be issued to all club members.

The club colours shall be of a White, Red and Blue design.

Club time trial events shall not take place without sufficient officials and marshals.

(a) THESE Rules may be amended at a general meeting by two-thirds of the votes cast but not (if relevant) so as to jeopardise the status of the Club as a Community Amateur Sports Club as first provided for by the Finance Act 2002 and not in any event to alter its purposes (unless the procedure set out in 29 (b) has been followed) or winding up provisions. Winding up the Club (a) The members may vote to wind up the Club if not less than three quarters of those present and voting support that proposal at a properly convened general meeting. (b) The Committee will then be responsible for the orderly winding up of the Club’s affairs. (c) After settling all liabilities of the Club, the Committee shall dispose of the net assets remaining to one or more of the following: (i)
to another Club with similar sports purposes which is a registered charity and/or
(ii) to another Club with similar sports purposes which is registered CASC and/or (iii) to the Club’s governing body for use by them for related community sports.
RULES FOR CLUB COMPETITION CLUB CHAMPION The Club Championship will be awarded to the fastest rider; at 10 and 25 miles in a nominated club event, at 50 and 100 miles in a nominated event and at 12 and 24 Hours in any open event. SENIOR LADIES JUNIOR SCHOOLBOY VETERAN

BEST ALL-ROUNDER COMPETITIONS - Best average speed OVER THE FOLLOWING DISTANCES :SENIOR B.A.R. 10, 25, 50 & 100 miles 3-DISTANCE BAR 2x10, 2x25, 1x50 miles LADIES B.A.R. 10, 25 & 50 miles JUNIOR B.A.R. 2 x 10, 2 x 25 miles VETERAN B.A.R. 10, 25, 50 & 100 miles (All on Standard) HANDICAP B.A.R. 10, 25, 50, 100 miles (Based on previous years times) CENTRAL DISTRICT course or nominated open events will take preference for BAR & Championship Competitions. 10 & 25 mile events must be on a Central District course ONLY to be eligible. If there are NO rides at 50 or 100 miles on a Central District course then any course will apply. MOCC club events and VTTA (Nottingham & East Mids) events also to count. V.T.T.A. events are only eligible for Veteran awards SENIOR ROAD RACE CHAMPION to the rider who gains the most points in accordance with B.C. Rules. SENIOR TRACK CHAMPION to the rider who gains the most points in hard track events in accordance with British Cycling rules. LADIES TRACK CHAMPION as for Senior Track Champion. JUNIOR TRACK CHAMPION as for Senior Track Champion. JUVENILE TRACK CHAMPION to the highest placed Schoolboy or Schoolgirl as for Senior Track Champion. CYCLO-CROSS CHAMPION to the clubs outstanding rider as decided by the committee HILLCLIMB CHAMPION to the winner of the club hillclimb. SCHOOLBOY HILLCLIMB CHAMPION to the fastest schoolboy in the club hillclimb. POINTS COMPETITION to the member collecting the most points in club events, based on the following system. Each rider finishing an event will gain 10 points. Bonus points of 5,4,3,2 and 1 will be awarded to the first five in each event, in order of principle award. Organisers receive 15 points for non-racing events. The first 10 overall will receive awards. AUDAX CUP to the member completing the longest event in a season. In the event of a tie, the total distance in all Randonees (minimum distance 200km) to decide the winner. ATTENDANCE to the most attendant club member on Sunday clubruns or present at events promoted by the club on Sundays. This will run from AGM to AGM. TOURIST TROPHY The best 4 scores from 7 counting events. Points awarded 20 for first, 19 for second down to 1 for twentieth and other finishers. GRAND PRIX de GENTLEMEN to the Gentleman and Pacer achieving the biggest 'plus' on standard in an Open 25 miles two-up team time trial. ASHBY PASTURES HANDICAP to the rider with the fastest handicap time in the 3-Lap Ashby Pasture event. ASHBY PASTURES SCRATCH to the rider with the fastest scratch time time in the 3-Lap Ashby Pasture event. LUNN CUP to the member showing the most improved performances during the season. PETE CURTIS COMPETITION. A points competition where riders best 8 scores from 10 nominated club events. Points awarded 40 for 1st, 39 for 2nd, 38 for 3rd etc. FRED PRESTON HANDICAP COMPETITION to the rider with the best aggregate time on Handicap over 2 x 25 miles & 2 Midweek Events in Melton Olympic Club events.
RULES FOR MIDWEEK EVENING COMPETITION The competition will be run on Wednesday evenings from April until August. Events will normally start at 19:30. Early and late events will start at 18:45, 19:00 and 19:15 as required. The competition will use three courses in rotation. The courses to be Ashby Pastures Circuit (2 Laps x 4.5 miles) (4 Occasions), Ashby Pastures Circuit (3 Laps x 4.5 miles) ( Once), Plungar Circuit (1 Lap x 10 miles) (5 Occasions) and Wymondham Circuit ( 1 Lap x 9.5 miles) ( 5 Occasions). The competition will be based on a points system using the best 5 positions throughout the season. Points awarded will be 18 for 1st place, 16 for 2nd, 14 for 3rd, 12 for 4th and then 11 points downwards to 1 point for position 15. The remainder will receive 1 point. The first ride on each course will carry a bonus of 3 points This gives a maximum possible bonus of 9 points. In the case of a tie the highest placings will count. eg. 18, 18, 18, 16, 14 =84 points plus 9 bonus would win over 18, 18, 16, 16, 16=84 points plus 9 bonus. These points apply to both the scratch and handicap competitions Prizes will be awarded for scratch and handicap competition in Overall, Lady, Junior, Juvenile and Veteran categories There is an extra bonus of 18 points for doing one marshalling duty through the mid-week league season. This bonus will only be added to the scratch points total. Under 18 year old members cannot marshal any club event, but if they have ridden any events they will be awarded the 18 points automatically. Riders who have not arranged to marshal for at least one evening event during the season, may not have their best rides in the Midweek Evening Competition counted and may not be eligible for any prizes in that competition. In the event of a competitor being eligible for more than one prize, they will be recognised on one award. Melton Olympic CC members will be charged £2.00 per event payable at the event or £25.00 for the season which can be paid at any time of the year, but cannot be back dated to include events previously ridden. Members under 18 year old will ride for free. Private trials will be charged at £4.00 per rider per event unless a second claim member to Melton Olympic CC then it will be £2.00. All riders and marshals must sign on with the timekeeper before each event, the signing-on sheet will be withdrawn 10 minutes prior to the start to allow the timekeeper to set out the field. Any riders attempting to sign on after the signing on sheet as been withdrawn may only do so with the timekeepers approval and may be turned down. Competitors under the age of 18 years must produce a Parental Consent form which the Event Secretary will keep for the duration of the season

CLUB RUNS Etc. Club runs start from Mill Street Car Park at 09.00 on Sunday mornings. These are usually of 5060 miles in length returning at approx. 13.00 including a cafe stop en-route. The Club Captain is responsible for selecting the destination of each run (please read Constitution Rules 25 and 26). Riders are asked to ride no more than two abreast and show every courtesy to other road users. See Club Runs programme for the normal club runs. Some easy runs may be arranged throughout the season for new riders and members who do not want to ride 50-60 miles. These runs will be at an easy pace and will arranged for either Saturday or Sunday as required. Off-Season training rides on Saturdays will be arranged as required.
