SHE was THE FIRST WOMAN LAUREATE OF THE PRITZKER PRIZE for architecture (2004).

Zaha Hadid consistently pushes the boundaries of architecture and urban design. A major retrospective of her work took place in the Guggenheim Museum (NY), 2006. It remained true to Hadid’s interdisciplinary approach to architecture: paintings, sketches, architectural drawings, urban plans, relief models, animations, furniture and design objects. Her work experiments with new spatial concepts to intensify existing urban landscapes in a pursuit of visionary aesthetic.

Best known for her seminal built works (Vitra Fire Station, Land Formation-One, Bergisel Ski Jump and Strasbourg Tram Station), Her central concerns involve a simultaneous engagement in practice, teaching and research. Hadid opened her independent practice in London in 1979 and in 1982 garnered international acclaim when her submission The Peak won the competition for a leisure club in Hong Kong. Today she is recognized as an industry icon.

Melissa is mouthwatering, absolutely candylicious! It reminds us of everyone’s best childhood moments.

MELISSA’s first concept-store is located in Sao Paulo’s fashion district, bringing together art and design in an exciting and ecological manifesto.

A fair and conscious practice of design. Melissa has sustainable development as a premise, means of economic development which satisfies market demands, preserving natural resources in a way that it can also satisfy the needs of future generations. Melissa understand that we need to protect natural resources for future generations. This is why sustainable development is a cornerstone of our work and is key to our economic development. It is our obligation to produce without damaging the environment. Melissa utilizes sustainability concepts from the inception of an

idea to the production of the final product. All outcomes are created, developed, fabricated and distributed with a rigid control to their life cycle. Because our products are created from mono-materials they can be easily disassembled and recycled. Solid, liquid and gas residues, left over from our production process, are recycled and dealt with in-house. Nothing leaves the factory without being properly treated, resulting in practically zero waste. Today, harmony within business, society and the environment is the most ethical way to respect consumers and the market. Melissa is a proud sponsor of Haverá a Idade das Coisas Leves: Design and Sustainable Development, Senac 2005, organized by Thierry Kazazian. This book discusses Eco Design, providing an overview of the serious problems facing the environment and suggestions for long term solutions to many of these issues. It is a reference for teachers and students.

MELISSA is a proud partner of various non-profit organizations and economic supporter of many social programs. Amongst activities are lectures on environmental consciouness and blood donation, monthly care and suppliance of all needs to unprivileged children and pregnant mothers as well as massive donation of footwear, seasonal creation of an entire collection whose royalty income is entirely reverted to selected charities and maintenance of urban green areas.

Brazil is a developing country blessed with abundant natural resources, unique landscapes and of course an amazing and talented population. Brazilians are proud of the contributions that MELISSA has made to society, and the commitment to improve the lives of the less fortunate. Amongst MELISSA’s partners are Casa da Mamãe; Bem Estar Familiar; Plantando o Futuro; Gerenciamento de Resíduos and Projeto Y Ikatu Xingu.

inspiration through innovation.

For years now, the biggest challenge has been to develop a material which could be easily molded to the foot, providing superior comfort in relation to other products currently on the market. This formula was developed in MELISSA’s laboratories. The result is a composition called MELFLEX ™. This material has characteristics which provide improved elasticity, impermeability and resistance.

MELISSA searches for innovation in a variety of fields, including those which are not related to footwear production, in order to boost the performance of MELFLEX ™.

This process was developed in order to enhance graphic applications in 3D products and is exclusive to MELISSA. This print technology allows us to create fun and entertaining images directly on the shoe. *3db = 3D Brasil
