PKHCC Scholar Kahanu Walker High School: Ke Kula Kaiapuni ‘o Anuenue College: University of Hawaii - Manoa Hawaiian Language/Hawaiian Studies PKHCC Award: 2013-2014 ʻAnoʻai me ke aloha, My name is Chanel K. Walker and I am currently a student attending the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa. This fall 2013 semester will be my third year there as a junior, recently decided to double major, both in the Hawaiian Studies and the Hawaiian Language department. My main purpose for majoring in both Hawaiian Studies and Hawaiian Language is to perpetuate the culture of my ancestors, my people, and for myself as well. With many career ideas running through my mind, I am not definite of what I would like to be, yet I am hoping to become a Dr. in Hawaiian medicine so that I may help my ʻohana as well as helping other Native Hawaiians with a healthier way of living through lāʻau lapaʻau. There is no other way to show how grateful I am then to say MAHALO. I am very honored to be blessed and gifted with the Prince Kūhiō Hawaiian Civic Club Scholarship.

DECEMBER 2013 Being a first generation college student, my family and I would continue to require guidance through the entire process. With a large family, money and continued employment is always a concern, especially in our current economic climate. Knowing that I am receiving this scholarship brings so much joy and happiness within for I know how challenging it is to pay to attend school. Furthermore, receiving a gift such as this is a motivation for myself to push harder in school to not only make my ʻohana proud, but to make the generous people who are financially supporting me proud as well. Again, I would like to say thank you so very much for gifting me with this Prince Kūhiō Hawaiian Civic Club Scholarship. I shall not fail. I shall succeed.
