Hear the Silence
The Location In the hinterland of sub-arctic Scandinavia, some 200 km north of the Arctic Circle, you find an untamed landscape of 450 million year old mountains, glacial rivers and enormous taiga forests. Jukkasjärvi is meänkiele for ”meeting place by the river” and for centuries, explorers, tradesmen, Sámi and settlers have gathered here. In this village, ICEHOTEL is reborn in a new guise each winter. Using the walls, floors and ceilings of the hotel as a canvas, the artsist give each room of the hotel a unique design and theme. ICEHOTEL comprises not just the hotel, but also warm rooms, meeting and dining spaces. Weather Due to the location, temperatures vary greatly between season, with averages ranging 003
from -30 C to 15 C. Each season has its unique attractions; the Arctic, frost-in-youreyelashes mid winter in December through February, the mild spring sun and fantastic skiing in March-May and the cool summer and autumn. Attractions - ICEHOTEL - Classic outdoor adventures including dog sledding, ice driving and snowmobiling in winter, hiking, cycling and rafting in summer and autumn. - Dinner on ice; eat a delicacy dinner served on plates made of crystal clear ice in the comfort of a warm restaurant. - The Sámi people. The aboriginal Sámi have lived in the northernmost areas of Scandinavia and Russia for thousands of
years. Learn about their culture and lifestyle with the reindeer as their close companions. - Northern lights & more. The Aurora Borealis may be the most famous one, but the pastel shades of Kaamos in December and the Midnight sun in May-July are equally magnificient. How to get here Fly in to Kiruna Airport with SAS Scandinavian Airlines or Norwegian via Stockholm (journey time approx. 1.5 hours). ICEHOTEL is located just 15 minutes’ transfer from the airport and you can choose to book a cab or arrange private transfer with us (opt for a traditional mini bus or a local speciality and arrive to the hotel on dog sled or snowmobile).
Once at ICEHOTEL, you find everything you need; all excursions start and end at the hotel; the two restaurants, the lounge, ICEBAR BY ICEHOTEL and the champagne bar are all within convenient walking distance. Local events - Jokkmokk’s market, February - The ice harvest festival, March. ICEHOTEL harvests the ice for next winter’s hotel from the Torne River. - Toughest ICE, April. CUISINE A true outdoor food experience, using what nature provides. Water from the river, with fresh fish or reindeer stew prepared over the open fire. For after; steaming hot coffee is waiting to be poured from the blackened kettle. THE STORY A dramatic landscape, in so many ways still wild and untouched by civilization to this day, yet the home of the aboriginal Sámi and rare animals for generations. Here, you find mountains pre-dating the ice age by 450 million years, pristine rivers, some of the Europe’s northermost pine moors and vast tajga forests. Explore it with 015

Getting away from digital presentations can be a great thing. Teams that interact with nature have a documented improvement in performance, creativity and reduction of stress related symptoms. Let the team engage in boating, snowmobiling and skiing, combined with educational experiences like learning how to cook in the wild and making up fire. Retreating to the tipi or wilderness camp, the team sits downs around the roaring fire, feeling the energy from the heat and crackling soundscape. To the aboriginal Sàmi, the fire and the shelter of their traditional tipi homes, symbolizes safety and a place to gather. The fireplace is a safe and welcoming, by tradition a forum for sharing stories, crafting ideas and tools for survival.

Aurora Hall & ICEHOTEL
017
Overview
A glistening structure of pure ice and an art exhibition with hotel beds. ICEHOTEL is 5500 square meters of ephemeral art, inspired and made possible by mother nature. Each year, tons and tons of the pure ice of Torne is harvested from the river. Like a series of etchings, each block is a piece of art in its own right; produced completely on nature’s terms. ICEHOTEL is open December through mid-April. In May, it reunites with the river - transforming to a maze of modern ruins in the process.
018
THE STORY ICEHOTEL is an annual art project and the world’s first hotel made of ice and snow. Each winter reborn in a new guise, it is the result of a symposium of international artists and designers. Come spring, the art melts and return to the river.
