Meet Our 2014 Summer Camp Counselors

Maggie Harris

Hi Campers and Parents! I cannot wait to get to know all of you! My name is Maggie Harris and I will be one of the Camp Counselors this summer. I am from Grove City, Ohio, which is south of Columbus. I will be a senior this fall! I am studying Early Childhood Education here at Ohio University. I wanted to be a Camp Counselor because I love working with children, plus summer camp is so much fun! I used to go to camp almost every year when I was a child! Some of my favorite camp activities would be tie-dye (who doesn’t love tie-dye though?), sand in a bottle, water balloon tosses, playing tag, crafts, swimming, fishing, sports, that’s just naming a few! My favorite superhero would have to be Captain America! Why? Well, he has an awesome indestructible shield, he’s dedicated to doing the right thing, and he defends U.S. Ideals! Who could be better? In my free time I love to hang out with my family, friends, and my dog! I spend a lot of time outside, going to the Dog Park, fishing, swimming, hiking, riding my bike, etc. I also enjoy listening to music and cooking/baking. “Intelligence is what you use when you don’t know what to do.” — Jean Piaget I can’t wait to get to know all of you soon! Maggie :)

Sebastien Adams Cincinnati, Ohio Aviation Management Senior I want to be a part of Summer Camp to help provide youth with outdoor and group activities to help them developed of sense of character, but most importantly I’m excited to give back to the community. At camp my favorite activities are camp fires, jokes and s'mores! My favorite superhero is Spider-Man because he is humble, solid distinction of right vs wrong and knows when to act and when not to act. Basically he's a good decision maker. This is important for everyone to learn because it makes one an effective worker and a well-liked individual I like to play electric guitar, I joke and laugh a lot (appropriately) I am half French and French is my first language. I am ex-military, one day hoping to be a Green Beret officer.

Aubrey Goetz

Name: Aubrey Goetz Hometown: Gibsonburg, Ohio (around Bowling Green, in the middle of corn fields) Major and Year: I just graduated with my degree in Early Childhood Education, and currently pursuing my master's degree in Reading Education. Why did you want to be a Summer Camp Counselor? Round 2! Last summer was a blast. We had so much fun with the kids each day, swimming, climbing and even turning them into Spiderman. And how could I go a summer without dodge ball every day?! Favorite Camp Activities: I kind of gave this away already but I am a huge dodge ball fan... more specifically Mega Man. I also loved the scavenger hunts outside. Favorite Superhero and Why: Tough one, I've never been a true superhero fan even though I've always been envious of Spiderman's ability to shoot webs (I think that would be so convenient sometimes). I think one of my favorite superheroes though is my mom, she never ceases to amaze me with all her powers! Summer Goal: Flip 55 pennies from my elbow this summer :) Aubrey J. Goetz

Hometown: Hinckley Major and Year: Senior Nursing Student Why did you want to be a Summer Camp Counselor? I love kids and I am eager to share my appreciation of the outdoors with them! Favorite Camp Activities: Some of my favorite camp activities are canoeing, singing camp songs, and capture the flag! Favorite Superhero and Why: Superwoman is definitely my favorite superhero because she looks just like me with blonde hair and blue eyes!

Ben Justice Name: Benjamin F. Justice (I read an article that attempted to prove intelligence levels actually increase when you use your middle initial, so we shall see!) Hometown: South Vienna, OH. Major and Year: Integrated Social Studies Education, Senior Why did you want to be a Summer Camp Counselor? Coming to work can't get any better than when the reasons you're there come sprinting into Ping water bottle and lunch box in hand ready and excited for the day's activities. I don't know many other jobs where that happens every morning. Quite honestly I’d be scared if I worked at the supermarket and that happened. Who wouldn't want to be a camp counselor? Favorite Camp Activities: Those of us here at camp like to ensure the highest quality of stimulation and brain development. Activities such as chess, bocheball, under-water basket weaving, 1,000 piece puzzles; these are all staples in our day to day activities. My favorites would be swimming (especially the noodle built pirate ships) and kickball! Favorite Superhero and Why: Going to mix things up on this one and say my Grandpa. I can hear your reaction, "Whaaat, he's not a superhero!" To me he is. I've never been big on the whole comic, super hero thing but to me my Grandpa has represented everything a hero should be; dedicated, strong, caring, friendly, and a great role model to all. His time here on Earth helped make me who I am today and now he's watching over me from Heaven like any great superhero would. If I had said anything other than him, it would have been a lie.

Name: Sarah Andrews

Hometown: Lima, OH

Major and Year: Human Biology, Junior Why did you want to be a Summer Camp Counselor? I wanted to be a summer camp counselor because I have always loved working with kids! Since I was 15 I have been babysitting, lifeguarding, and coaching, so I am very comfortable working with kids. It is an awesome feeling seeing kids grow and improve in their lives and I am very excited to be helping them do that! Favorite Camp Activities: I have always loved artsy activities, so tie-dying is one of my favorites! It also gives the kids something to remember camp by. Also, who didn't love obstacle courses when they were younger?! This is a great activity that can be done outside or inside on a rainy day. Favorite Superhero and Why: My favorite superhero is definitely Spider-Man. He takes the bad in his life and turns it into something good. He is the most relatable, experiencing problems in his life just like everyone else. Despite his problems, he turns around and saves the day for his town! Plus, his Spidey senses and gadgets are pretty awesome too! I can't wait to meet all of the kids and I am getting excited for an awesome summer, I hope everyone else is too! :)

Erin Noonan

Name: Erin Noonan Hometown: Cincinnati, Ohio Major and Year: Anthropology/Junior Why did you want to be a Summer Camp Counselor? I love working with kids and I love being active and playing outside, being a camp counselor I get to do both! :) Favorite Camp Activities: Outdoor water activities Favorite Superhero and Why: Batman because he overcomes every obstacle in his way, and I like his mask.

Name: Jarrod Cupp Hometown: Circleville, OH Major and Year:

Why did you want to be a Summer Camp Counselor? I wanted to be able to have the chance to work in the community and the chance to have a positive impact on the kids. Favorite Camp Activities: Anything where the kids are able to be creative or where they can be outside, exploring the world around them. Favorite Superhero and Why: I've always been a fan of Batman because he does what is right, regardless of the implications. Compared to other heroes, he's just a man with no "powers" and he's still able to take down the bad guys just as easy. I find that motivating because everything he's been through and all of the barriers he's had to get over, he's still able to achieve greatness.

Sara Prater Name: Sara Prater Hometown: Bexley, OH (a suburb of Columbus) Major and Year: Nursing, Junior Class of 2016 Why did you want to be a Summer Camp Counselor? I LOVE working with kids so I will answer this with one of my favorite quotes: "To laugh often and much; To win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; To earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; To appreciate beauty, to find the best in others; To leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch… To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded." –Ralph Waldo Emerson Favorite Camp Activities: I thoroughly enjoy arts and crafts, while equally enjoying basketball and soccer (as I played them in high school but doesn't mean I'm good at them haha). Don't be surprised if I break out into song sometimes - I LOVE music and am currently trying to teach myself how to play the guitar! Favorite Superhero and Why: Oooooh wow, this is a difficult question. My first instinct would be to say Superman. Why? I think it is because Clark Kent is your average Joe on the outside but behind the façade we find out that he has incredible talents and strengths (not to mention how cute he is :P)! He illustrates many reasons not to judge someone before you truly get to know them because that person might just save your life or the entire human population. Thanks Superman
