16 CMTE credits for Board Certified Music Therapists Medical Music Therapy is approved by the Certification Board for Music Therapists (CBMT) for 16 Continuing Music Therapy Education credits. Credits awarded by CBMT are accepted by the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC). The Great Lakes Region of The American Music Therapy Association, #P-021 maintains responsibility for program quality and adherence to CBMT Policies and Criteria. NO PREREQUISITES REQUIRED FOR MT-BC’S OR STUDENTS.

Participants will learn assessment and implementation of music therapy interventions as applied in the hospital settings for (NICU) premature babies, pediatrics, palliative pediatrics and adult inpatient and outpatient oncology. Participants will learn to create a narration and provide live therapist generated improvisation to facilitate patient relaxation. Participants will demonstrate how to utilize melody, rhythm and tempo to provide live therapist generated improvisation for the mandala experience. Participants will experience drawing mandalas for self reflection and learn brief processing questions to support the use of mandalas as a creative art intervention. Educational resources, pharmaceutical grant 12:00 – 1:00 pm Lunch on your own 1 – 2:30 pm Therapist Generated Improvisation with Mandalas 2:30 – 2:45 pm Break – refreshments provided 2:45 – 4:00 pm Discussion and dyad practice of therapist generated improvisation with guitars, harps, and/or keyboard, narration practice 4:00 - 4:15 pm Group Closure.

Cancellation and refund policy: Conference fees will be refunded minus a $25 processing charge for participant-canceled programs ONLY when the written request is received by the Institute for Educational Outreach office within 5 working days before the event. No refunds will be granted less than 5 working days prior to the conference date. Due to contractual agreements, there are no exceptions to this policy.

About Soozie Cotter-Schaufele Susan, (Soozie) Cotter-Schaufele has served as the Clinical Training Supervisor and Music Therapy Coordinator in the Department of Mission and Spiritual Care at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, Illinois since 1994. She provides and supervises music therapy for babies, children and adults on medical and psychiatric units. Soozie has a Masters in Music Therapy and has NICU certification. She is also a Fellow with the Association of Music and Imagery, and is certified in the MARI/Mandala assessment process. Soozie writes, teaches and presents about music therapy and has recorded a vocal and harp relaxation CD. She is married, has three children, two darling granddaughters and several thousand honeybees! About Louise Dimiceli-Mitran Louise Dimiceli-Mitran is a licensed clinical professional counselor and board-certified music therapist at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, IL, specializing in oncology. She maintains a private music therapy/counseling practice in Chicago and is a Primary Trainer for the Therapeutic Arts Institute, teaching other professionals The Bonny Method of Guided Imagery & Music. Louise pioneered the Focus on Wellness groups at the Center for Advanced Care/Advocate Lutheran General and received a grant from Genentech Pharmaceuticals for her Consciously Creating Wellness CD: Light and Nourishment, a guided imagery/relaxation recording. She is past-president of the Association for Music and Imagery and regularly presents at conferences and workshops on the power of music, stress reduction, guided imagery and music, and wellness.

Other Information When you arrive at the college: Park in the lot at the corner of 39th St. and Morgan Ave. Enter Alphonsa Hall (entrance is south most door facing the east) and proceed up the stairs or elevator to the second level. AL 258 is located up the short stairway to the right (accessible elevator also available).

Food & Beverage Breakfast will be provided, in addition to morning and afternoon snacks. Lunch is on your own. The Commons will be open for lunch both days of the seminar. A variety of fast food restaurants are also located on and around South 27th Street.
