User Setup Instructions

Step 1: Create an account

Go to bookstore.medhand.com and create an account (on a pc) Account email address needs to be your the same as on the email list of user entitlements. This is your institutional email that your institutional administrator has on record for you, not your personal email address Password is DrC_hom

Step 2: Title selection

Core package 1. BNF 2. BNFC 3. Oxford Handbook of Clinical Medicine 4. Oxford Handbook of Foundation Programme 5. Foundation Doctor eHandbook PLUS 2 ‘add-on’ specialty-specific titles (from a predefined list circulated separately)

On a pc, login to your MedHand Bookstore account and select 2 free titles (see list circulated separately). Do not use Internet Explorer 7; use a later version, Firefox, or Chrome

Selection cannot be changed after checkout If you select less titles than 2 titles, then free add-on entitlement is lost No need to select the 5 core titles again

Before checkout, check that you have selected 2 titles from the list of free titles (circulated separately). There should not appear to be a charge for these. If you have selected less than 2 titles, then your free add-on entitlement will be lost. You cannot change your selection later. No need to select BNF, BNFC, OHCM, OHFP titles again. Checkout will ask for an address, enter your institutional address

Step 3: Download Dr Companion Mobile Medical Dr Companion – (=shell) App within which mobile books are stored

• iPhone and ipad users: on your device, go to AppStore and search for Dr Companion Mobile Medical • Android users: on your device, go to Play Store and search for Dr Companion Mobile Medical • Screenshots show the ios installation process – the process is exactly the same for Android

• Open the Dr Companion Mobile Medical App on your device • Click on 'Refresh Purchases‘ on next screen

• Enter your MedHand bookstore login details (institutional email address and password DrC_hom) • Click on ‘Login’ • The App will start downloading your books in ‘Store’ • After its complete, go to Books, your downloaded books will be there

• If the App asks for payment, then something has gone wrong (email [email protected] for help and support queries) • Do not delete and re-install the App, you will very quickly use up your download limit of 5 and will be locked out of your account. Contact us for support instead

Search •

Search Tap Magnifying Glass (search icon) & select the type of search

Quick Search by taping and holding a word to search within the notes, the book or multiple books

•

Search all books within the library by tapping the Search icon twice

•

Search all notes by tapping “Search icon three times

•

Proximity Search “closest match” suggestion in the search results to allow for misspelling

Navigate backwards and forwards by tapping the arrows on the navigation bar or sliding your finger across the screen

Use the crumbtrail at the top left to see where you are located within the book

•

View history by selecting the Clock icon at the top right

Return to the Table of Contents by tapping the Home icon on the status bar Crumb-trail on top of page

Return to the Top of the Screen by tapping on the status bar (location of the current time)

•

Adjust font size and style in Settings within your device (iOS)

Bookmarking •

Create bookmarks by tapping the Plus icon

Change the name of bookmarks by tapping the Edit button, then tapping on the row

Re-order bookmarks by tapping the Edit button, then dragging the row on the right-hand side. To keep sorting intact, new bookmarks are always added to the bottom of the list

Highlight text by tapping and holding, and then selecting Toggle Highlight

Annotate by tapping the pen next to the highlight to add an annotation. Select Bookmark to add the page with your annotation to bookmarks

Add a picture by tapping the paper clip icon in annotation section (take picture or use existing)

Copy and paste by tapping and holding the text and select Copy. You can transfer your text into any word processing app, or email, and then print
