Mission Statement

The Nutrition Services Department at GrapevineColleyville Independent School District is committed to providing a nutritious meal to every child. By providing children of our community with quality food and service, we are valuable partners in education. Our efforts as professionals in child nutrition will further the growth and success of our students, staff and community.

Pizza Hut and GCISD

Nutrition Services is excited to continue our partnership with Pizza Hut this school year! Beginning September 7th Pizza Hut pizzas will be available at our Elementary Schools according to the delivery cycle printed on each month’s calendar. The pizzas are specially made with whole grains and low sodium ingredients to comply with USDA meal pattern regulations. That means these cheese or pepperoni slices can be teamed up with your student’s favorite sides and fat-free milk for a reimbursable meal!

What Is A Reimbursable Meal?

GCISD participates in the National School Breakfast and Lunch Program and receives government reimbursement and donated commodities for each meal served. In return, the district must serve meals which comply with specific guidelines based on the 2010 Healthy Hunger Free Kids Act and USDA standards. All schools must offer foods individually or in combination dishes from the following main food groups (called meal components): • Grains • Fruit • Meat or Meat Alternative • Vegetable • Milk Students are encouraged to try an item from each offered component and may select all 5 of the offered components for the best possible nutrition. The minimum number of components required is 3 for a well-balanced, reimbursable meal. All reimbursable meals must include the selection of at least 1 fruit or 1 vegetable. Students who select fewer than 3 components or who do not choose a fruit or vegetable will be charged based on a la carte pricing. GCISD uses the Offer vs Serve method to allow students more flexibility when choosing from multiple main dishes, side dishes, fruits and vegetables every day. Daily non-fat milk options include white, chocolate and strawberry. One or more vegetarian options are offered each day.

GCISD Elementary and Middle Schools follow all federal, state and local school nutrition regulations. For more information about the specific guidelines concerning student meals please visit www.fns.usda.gov.

Check Acceptance for Meals

Checks must have the following: 1. A pre-printed name and address (no temporary checks accepted) 2. The current date 3. Written to the name of the school cafeteria or Nutrition Services 4. The student’s name or 6 digit student ID number written in the memo section

Returned Checks with Insufficient Funds (NSF)

In the event that a check written to Nutrition Services is returned unpaid by your bank, GCISD or its agent will redeposit your check electronically. NSF checks are sent to Paytek to be processed on behalf of the District to collect the unpaid amount and returned check fee(s). You may contact Paytek at 1-800-641-9998 to remedy this matter. Visit the district website at www.gcisd-k12.org throughout the year for additional information from Nutrition Services. We look forward to serving your child this school year.

The Child Nutrition department may make food substitutions, at their discretion, for individual children who do not have a disability but who are medically certified as having a special medical or dietary need. A medical statement must be submitted and decisions will be made on a case-by-case basis. (Texas Department of Agriculture, November 2011)

GCISD Nutrition Services Receives the Perfect Peach Award! The Texas Department of Agriculture and Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller honored the Grapevine-Colleyville ISD child nutrition department with a Perfect Peach award for its achievement in TDA’s 2015 Local Product Challenge. Participating schools that accepted Commissioner Miller’s challenge and incorporated local ingredients from Texas in at least three meal components-dairy, protein, fruits, vegetables or grains-earned the Perfect Peach Award. “Teaching children about healthy lifestyles by introducing them to nutritious foods grown in Texas is a top priority at TDA,” Commissioner Sid Miller said. “When our school nutrition partners participate in the Local Products Challenge, they strengthen Texas agriculture and demonstrate their commitment to developing good nutritional habits for the young Texans they serve and their entire communities.” Participation in TDA’s Local Products Challenge continues to grow year after year. More than 90 school districts participated in the 2015 Local Products Challenge, and only 65 of those earned the Perfect Peach Award. Our child nutrition team works tirelessly throughout the year to prepare healthy school meals and support our students’ academic goals. The Perfect Peach Award highlights their efforts to serve local Texas products in the cafeteria to help make our district a leader in nutrition in the Lone Star State.”
