The unit covers business analysis and business relationship management, application development and enterprise resource planning systems, telecommunications and networking infrastructure, data centers, business intelligence, portfolio management, technology support center (University help desk), enterprise architecture, and endpoint management. Led cross-functional team (including team members from University Human Resources, campus human resource offices, University Payroll, Administrative Information Technology Services, campus Provost offices, and Decision Support), on a $5.5 million project to create a Web interface to the human resources module of the University’s Banner enterprise resource planning (ERP) system. The Human Resources Front End (HRFE) application served the three physical campuses of the University, as well as the Global Campus and University Administration. The team’s responsibilities included pre-design activities, functional specifications, user community relations, prototype development, technical specifications, unit testing, functional quality assurance, project communications/marketing, change management, user acceptance testing, training, implementation, and tier 2 help desk support. Major accomplishments include managing:       

a successful pre-design phase that established ground rules for the project and mapped current and future-state business processes functional specification development on time and within budget (functional design costs were 50% of allotted budget) a new user-focused project management methodology, with full participation on the team from each of the campuses the design and testing of the first asynchronous JavaScript and XML (AJAX) administrative application a blended training program including face-to-face training of over 800 users and Web-based training for over 3000 users, resulting in a user satisfaction rate of 99% (as measured by posttraining surveys) established code standards for human resource application interfaces between Web-based selfservice applications and the Banner ERP system redesigned and consolidated several disparate application interfaces into a single set of consistent code

FAMILYTOOLBOX.NET, INC., Champaign, Illinois July 1999 – August 2001 Executive Vice President and Chief Technology Officer Managed day to day administrative and technical activities for a company that provided data services to those interested in family history research. Daily responsibilities included negotiating data rights with archives and private records repositories; managing microfilm digitization and indexing efforts (both domestic and international); implementing in-house network and hardware infrastructure; managing data center and business continuity activities; establishing and enforcing code, digitization, and metadata standards; and leading product marketing activities (both online and CD-ROM products). Major accomplishments include:    

created an online presence containing digitized images of materials from national and state-level archives previously unavailable online produced and marketed a line of “original source” CD-ROMs implemented a vertical search engine for those interested in genealogy and local history research acted as a consultant on the genealogy data industry to companies interested in producing products and services for that market

iUNIVERSE, INC., Lincoln, Nebraska August 1999 – May 2000 Consultant Developed marketing strategy for the introduction of new genealogical imprint for an on-demand publishing company. Daily responsibilities included mapping relationships within the genealogical community; introducing company personnel to key community leaders; negotiated partnership agreements with major genealogical companies; and wrote technical guidance for authors wishing to publish under the imprint. Major accomplishments include:   

produced the first in-depth marketing study of the genealogical industry generated interest in the imprint within the genealogical community wrote a manual for authoring genealogical works under the imprint

ANCESTRY.COM, INC., Orem, Utah December 1998 – July 1999 Director, Online Editorial Content Led a cross-functional team (with members from Editorial Production, Application Development, and Business Development) responsible for the acquisition, coding, and maintenance of online genealogical content for the Ancestry.com Web site.

UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS, Urbana, Illinois March 1995 – December 1998 Director, Human Resources Management Systems Led the Human Resources Information Systems team. The team was responsible for implementing packaged human resource information systems and developing home grown human resource self-service applications. Major accomplishments include:  

implemented human resources module of the InPower enterprise resource planning system lead the development of the NESSIE, DART, NEWT, TIGER, and PANDA self-service application suite (home grown applications allowing employees to execute personnel transactions through a Web interface; transactions were then fed to back-end systems such as the mainframe, human resource system, and third-party systems) established a document management system, using the EZPower document management software, for storing key human resource documentation implemented a decision support system for human resource offices on the three campuses of the University served on the Payroll System Implementation Steering Team, as the representative from University Human Resources
