Mission Statement This program develops student’s physical abilities and personal fitness levels. Students also learn social and personal responsibilities, ways to communicate and how to make informed decisions.

Health and Physical Education Program Goals

K-5 PE 1 Students will identify physical activities that are enjoyable.

6-8 PE 1 Students will self-initiate warm-up and cool-down during activity times.

PE 2 Students will identify the physiological signs of moderate to vigorous physical activity (e.g., increased heart rate, faster breathing, sweating, increase in body temperature).

PE 2 Students will identify the changes in physiological effects of physical activity on the body (e.g., increased sweating, body odor) as one enters puberty

HE 1 Students will describe how screen time (TV & computer use) and advertisements influence fitness behaviors. HE 2 Students will understand personal health goals.

HE 1 Students will analyze the effects of media & technology on school & community fitness behaviors.

PE 1 Students will value activity for health, enjoyment, challenge and social interaction. PE 2 Students will respect self and others during physical activity. HE 1 Students will be able to display proper safety rules in the gym area.

PE 1 Students will value sportsmanship in a game situation.

PE 1 Students will value working with a group to reach a common goal.

PE 2 Students will value selfmotivation when interacting with others. HE 1 Students will be able to practice safety rules at home, showing etiquette, and care of equipment, resect for facility and safe behaviors. HE 2 Students will display sensitivity towards the feelings of others while participating in fitness activities with varying individuals.

PE 2 Students will find enjoyment in a sport and make it a lifelong sport. HE 1 Students will exhibit safety rules out in the environment, holding one’s self and others responsible for following safety procedures. HE 2 Students will invite others into activities regardless of varying skills, abilities, limitations and cultural backgrounds.

HE 2 Students will demonstrate behaviors of being cooperative and encouraging of fitness partner.

HE 2 Students will understand the stages of growth and development.

9-12 PE 1 Students will use available technology to analyze heart rate and recovery time, distinguish among three parts of a workout (warmup, workout, cool-down) on a heart rate graph. PE 2 Students will analyze the long-term effects of participating regularly in moderate to vigorous physical activity on the body systems (e.g., respiratory, cardiovascular, muscle system, skeletal system). HE 1 Students will evaluate the impact of technology, media and advertisements on personal, family and community fitness through physical activity HE 2 Students will understand the three domains- cognitive, physical, and emotional- factors on improving physical fitness.

Psychomotor

PE 1 Students will set fitness goals to be active every week at recess.

PE 1 Students will create physical fitness improvement plan, using technology.

PE 2 Students will demonstrate basic locomotor movement skills.

PE 2 Students will perform the proper techniques in throwing and catching sports. HE 1 Students demonstrate the effective decision making process in situations.

HE 1 Students will participate in daily health enhancing activities.

HE 2 Students will demonstrate proper safety procedures in the classroom.

HE 2 Students will practice proper safety procedures and techniques both in school and outside of school when dealing with peer pressure.

PE 1 Students will develop lifelong fitness plans, working to improve fitness components. PE 2 Students will demonstrate the proper skill sequence through sport. HE 1 Students will demonstrate the ability to differentiate between reliable health sources and not reliable health sources. HE 2 Students will practice lifelong safety and protection when in a social area.

Definitions K-5 Physical Education Motor Skills- Students will understand basic movements in sports such as locomotor and nonlocomotor movements. Running, Skipping, galloping and Relationships with Sports- Students will understand how to work with others and other objects to attain a goal. Manipulative Sport- These skills are the fundamental skills needed to participate in everyday PE class such as kicking, throwing, and catching. Physical Fitness- The basic fundamentals of physical fitness and the most common domains will be addressed: muscular strength, muscular endurance, flexibility and cardiovascular. Individualized Sports- Sports will be introduced to the students that will need themselves only, leading them to depend on themselves for the outcomes of the competition. Health Education Nutrition- Students will learn the fundamental information about nutrition in order to make healthy food decisions. Students will learn about the food groups and what healthy foods look like. Life Sills- Students will learn proper ways to take care of their bodies. Things such as hygiene and healthy way to deal with daily routines will be taught. Safety- Basic information on the environment around the students, traffic safety, and fire prevention. 6-8 Physical Education Team Sports- Students will work together on teams to learn the basic skills needed to compete in a competition play. Sports such as soccer, football, Dance- Teaching basic steps to create a class dance, social dances and exposing the students to a wide variety of ballroom, cultural and creative dances. Aquatics- Swimming techniques, outdoor aquatic activities will all be introduced with the basic techniques needed in order to participate in these activities. Sports such as swimming, paddle boarding, kayaking and surfing will be addressed. Cooperative/Team Building- Games and activities in which team work needs to be built and practiced, along with communication skills for the students.

Physical Fitness- Different variations of physical fitness areas will show the students to stay fit for a cause. Jump Rope for Heart, Hoops for Heart and the Presidential Fitness testing will be the main variations. Health Education Family Planning- Students will begin to learn about relationships, marriage, family matters, and communication. Drugs and Alcohol- Students will learn the dangers of drugs and alcohol and the effects it will have on their body. Students will learn about different drugs and kinds of alcohol. Sexual Maturing Body- Students will start noticing changes in their body and these changes will be addressed. Information and questions about the maturing body into teenage years and adulthood will be given and addressed.

9-12 Physical Education Aquatics- More advanced swimming techniques will be added into the basic aquatic lessons. Swimming strokes, surfing waves, paddle boarding and kayaking through a course will be explained. Adventure Learning- Students will get a chance to explore other “nontraditional” classroom sport. Sports such as hiking, rock climbing, horseback riding, and zip lining. Lifelong Sports- Students will learn sports that can be played throughout a lifetime such as Bocce ball, crochet, ladder ball and Can Jam. Individualized Sports- Sports where the student only has to depend on themselves to get the task done. More advanced concept will be taught. Sports include tennis, golf, racquetball, archery and pickle ball. Physical Fitness- More lifelong fitness concepts are taught, fitness concepts that students can add to their everyday lives. Things such cross fit, weight training, yoga and circuits. Health Education Safety/ First Aid- CPR, choking, injuries and wound care are addressed in this lesson. Skills that the students can carry with them for the rest of their lives. Family Planning- Sex education, reproduction and the life cycle will be addressed in depth for the students to carry with them for their lives. Drivers Education- Information is taught that will get the students their written permit card and on track to getting their license.
