Overview Pearson offers direct integration between Canvas and its MyLab / Mastering and CourseConnect products. Direct integration allows instructor and students to log in to Canvas and click a link to access their Pearson resources without the need for the user to: create a new account, a course, or to log in a second time. Instructors can work with their Pearson Representative and Solutions Technology Consultant to design the course experience that meets their specific teaching and learning objectives. Pearson direct integration provides: 

Single sign-on (SSO) from Canvas directly into an instructor’s MyLab / Mastering course or CourseConnect resources. This standards-based integration uses IMS Learning Tools Interoperability (LTI), a proven integration protocol.

Custom course development by Pearson Learning Solutions with input from the instructor and utilizing instructional design best practices.

Direct links to MyLab / Mastering or CourseConnect resources ensure the student is presented with the educational materials they need within the context of the Canvas course frame.

Student Experience Students who access their MyLab / Mastering or CourseConnect resources from within their Canvas course will enjoy a seamless experience. The student signs-in to Canvas and navigates to their course. From within their Canvas course, the student can view their course materials and resources as organized by their instructor. The student can then click links to access their: MyLab / Mastering or CourseConnect content, Pearson eText, homework or quiz, study plan, or MyLab / Mastering gradebook.

When the student clicks on one of these integrated links, the Canvas page displays the navigation elements in the top and left-hand navigation (“bread crumb trail”) with the MyLab / Mastering or CourseConnect content displayed in the body of the page (“in-frame”). Because the MyLab / Mastering content is displayed in-frame in Canvas and the student was not prompted for a secondary login, the student perceives the two as one unified experience.

The very first time a student clicks on a link to their MyLab / Mastering or CourseConnect materials, students may be prompted to redeem an access code. This access code may be purchased at the student bookstore, distributed by their instructor or can be purchased directly within the application using a credit card or PayPal.

Instructor Experience Instructors also enjoy a seamless experience managing their MyLab / Mastering or CourseConnect resources from within their Canvas course. As part of the course design process, direct links from Canvas into the MyLab / Mastering or CourseConnect management tools are provided in the left navigation panel. Instructors can organize student links within course modules including links to: MyLab / Mastering or CourseConnect content, Pearson eText, homework assignments or quizzes, study plan, or MyLab / Mastering gradebook. Students can then click on any link within a module to access that resource. Integrated Canvas courses are built to user specifications to meet each instructor’s teaching and learning objectives. Employing instructional design best practices, integrated courses are delivered as Canvas exports ready to import directly into an instructor’s Canvas account.
