Makeup tips Eyes: Eyeshadow/Eyeliner/Mascara

before

Eyeliner, eye shadow and mascara are supposed to accentuate the eye area and should, by no means, be applied superfluously. Contours should be well toned down, especially for day-time make-up. The eyes must not be "overshadowed" by eye shadow!

after

When a customer asks your advise for the first time in regard to the wearing of eye make-up on a regular basis, only gradually introduce her to colours. It is much better to recommend matt, natural or earth-toned shades rather than strong, vivid shades. Colourful accents can always be added later using a highlighter. Eye Shadow Fixing Primer

The eye lid must be completely free of grease before applying eye shadow. Any day cream residue should be removed with a make-up remover pad. Eye shadow will last longer and even remain water proof if an eye shadow fixing primer is applied to the upper lid and below the eye brow. This also prevents eye shadow from smearing into the crease of the eye socket. Applying an eye shadow fixing primer is especially recommended for very dark or reddish eyes. A slight dusting of powder should be applied in addition to the eye shadow fixing primer. Eye Shadow Colours Convince your customers that have not worn eye shadow before to avoid using too many colours. The choice of colours depends on the colour of the eye, the clothing or the occasion. Of course, you should also take into consideration the customer’s personality. Eye shadow colours should be chosen to harmoniously blend in with the overall make-up. If you are working with various colours, don’t forget that lipstick and rouge still have to be applied. White and rose shaded eye shadows are referred to as highlighters. To brighten up the face, lightly smudge in a highlighter below the eye brow once eye shadow has been applied. The Consistency There are three basic formulations of eye shadow, i.e. creams, powders and sticks. Powder shadows are easy to use and last longer. Cream eye shadows disappear quickly and tend to form creases in the socket of the eye. Eye Liner Colour can be applied along the lash line with an eye liner or Kajal pencil. Liquid eyeliner is applied with a fine, thin brush. An eye liner with a felt tip is a simple tool for application.

Application Eyeliner applied along the lower lashes should be lightly smudged using a cotton-wool swab to avoid a hard, severe line. Fixing the lash line with a dusting of powder prevents the eyeliner from smudging or creating dark circles under the eyes. In general, a kajal pencil gives a softer effect than an eyeliner. Begin drawing the line at the inner edge of the eye or from the middle when dealing with close-set eyes. Drawing a line in one stroke can cause crooked lines. It is therefore recommended to draw the line in small intervals. Mascara The effect of eye shadow and eye liner can only be achieved with careful application of mascara. Waterproof mascara is oil soluble. Therefore, to avoid “sad eyes” apply an oil-free eye gel under the eye. Application If you put too much colour on the applicator, eye lashes will stick together and the mascara will clog up. Hold applicator slanted to the eye when applying mascara. Ask the customer to look down when applying mascara to the upper lashes. Sweep applicator from root to tip of the upper lashes. Ask the customer to look up when applying mascara to the lower lashes and apply with the tip of the applicator.

1

Eye shadow will last longer if foundation and powder are applied to the eyelid beforehand.

2

Begin by applying the darkest shade of eye shadow from the chosen colour "family" to the outer edge of the eye. Apply an ample amount of this shade since it will be blended inwards with a brush at a later point of time.

3

By placing a pencil from the nostril to the outer edge of the eye, you will be able to tell if eye shadow has been applied too far out of the eye area.

4

Apply the chosen dark shade of eye shadow also in the socket of the eye. Apply a pearl eye shadow in the inner corner of the eye. Ensure the colours merge well into each other to avoid leaving a hard edge.

5

In order not to "stifle" the eyes, make sure that there is not too much eye shadow showing when the eyes are open. Shading is merely a way to accentuate the eyes and to give them a certain sparkle.

6

Ask the customer to look down when applying eyeliner. She should not close her eyes. Hold lid slightly

taut using your middle and forefingers and draw a fine line from the inner corner of the eye to the middle.

7

Now extend the line from the middle to the outer edge of the eye. This line can be a little thicker and longer depending on the shape of the eye.

8

Lightly smudge eyeliner along lower lashes using a cotton-wool swab to achieve a softer look.

9

The customer should look down when applying mascara. Apply mascara from root to tip of the upper lashes. Let the eyelashes dry before applying a second or third coat.

10

If the customer so wishes, add colour accents once lipstick and rouge has been applied. Apply a highlighter under the brow of the eye with a sponge-tipped applicator.Once the upper lashes are dry, ask the customer to look up. Apply a coat of mascara on the lower lashes using the tip of the applicator.

11

If the customer so wishes, add colour accents once lipstick and rouge has been applied. Apply a highlighter under the brow of the eye with a sponge-tipped applicator.

12

The result: A becoming eye make-up, positively accentuating the eye area.
