International Experience: Mexico (2001) I attended a three week intensive/Spanish immersion language school in Oaxaca, Mexico in preparation for working in South America. Bolivia (2002-present) I began working with the Unidad Academica Campesina-Carmen Pampa in 2002 and have continued to consult with students and faculty on plant disease questions. The UAC-Carmen Pampa was established in 1993 to model after a US land-grant college, serving the local communities to strengthen agriculture, markets and local opportunities. I taught several classes and workshops each week and consulted with professors, local farmers and advised students on their undergraduate research projects. I continue to provide guidance to students and the faculty from a distance via e-mail and Flicker. Serbia (2010) I provided consultation on US Cooperative Extension structure and function for a USDA-FAS project to facilitate the redesign of the Serbian Extension Service, a requirement of their acceptance into the EEU. I was a participant in two Extension conferences in Serbia in 2010, hosted a Serbian study group in the US in visits to two land-grant universities and contributed to several intercontinental planning calls. Brazil (2006) I participated in a research project evaluating fungicides on soybean in Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul and Goiás states. The project was in cooperation with the Danish company, Cheminova, assessing soybean rust fungicides in a high pressure disease environment. I had previously toured agricultural research on soybean research in Paraná state and nearby areas of southern Paraguay. Germany (2004) I was invited by BASF, Inc. as a speaker at a multidisciplinary science forum in Albersweiler, Germany in 2004, BASF Research Seminar on Biosciences 2004: New Trends in Biology. I presented my work on the suppression of Fusarium head blight and deoxynivalenol in wheat and barley and the national uniform trials that I coordinated as a part of the US Wheat and Barley Scab Initiative. I was the only forum speaker with a plant science topic. Additional USDA International Experiences (2006-2015) I have provided briefings for international trade groups from several South American countries and a new Mexican consortium that is rethinking their Extension structure. I have been involved in ongoing Joint Commission Meetings with Indonesia and Malaysia via Digital Video Conference. I have also contributed to plans for assistance and collaboration frameworks for cereals with Australia, Pakistan, and India.
