The construction of river cruise vessels used e.g. on the Danube and the Rhône is an important market of NEPTUN WERFT in Rostock. New ships for A-Rosa and Viking are currently on the order books or being constructed. The company arose from “Schiffswerft Neptun“, one of Germany‘s shipbuilders with the longest tradition which was founded in Rostock in 1850 as “Maschinenbauanstalt und Schiffswerft“ and since 1890 has been a public limited company under the name of “Neptun Schiffswerft und Maschinenfabrik“. In more than 160 years of company history, more than 1,500 new ships have been built and thousands have been repaired or converted for ship owners around the world. MEYER WERFT is using state-of-the-art laser technology for steel prefabrication. The independent MEYER WERFT Laserzentrum GmbH operates a consistent series production with clearly defined planning and manufacturing processes. The use of latest laser and automation techniques make the company a high-tech enterprise. Meanwhile, pipes are also machined by an independent company, MEYER WERFT Rohrzentrum GmbH. In addition to cutting the pipes and preparing the weld seams, the company also manufactures variously shaped cut-outs in the pipes. The cabins for our cruiseliners are supplied by EMS PreCab GmbH Co. KG which is located in the immediate vicinity of MEYER WERFT. The cabins are manufactured in cycled flowline production.

Maritime Technology Supplier Management

Both, MEYER WERFT and NEPTUN WERFT have an active supplier management. They are using various instruments to continuously improve the cooperation with their suppliers. The MEYER NEPTUN PORTAL is a jointly used database with an internet-based user interface for the shipyard’s external partners. Data of suppliers and of companies desiring to become suppliers to the shipyards are stored in the materials management/purchasing section. If you wish to offer your products and services to the shipyards, please apply online at:

www.meyerwerft.de/Lieferanten/Lieferantenbewerbung www.neptunwerft.de/Lieferanten/Lieferantenbewerbung The contacts in charge at the purchasing departments will decide whether you will be included in the MEYER NEPTUN PORTAL as a potential supplier. Membership in the MEYER WERFT or NEPTUN WERFT Regional Network within the MEYER NEPTUN PORTAL is possible for companies located within defined postcode area. Companies within the German postcode areas 26, 27, 28, 48 and 49 and the Dutch provinces Friesland, Groningen and Drenthe may become members of the Regional Network of MEYER WERFT. German Postcode areas 17, 18, 19 and 23 apply to the Regional Network of NEPTUN WERFT. Any member in one of the networks can offer its products and services not only to the shipyards but also to the shipyards‘ supra-regional suppliers and other network members. Membership to the MEYER NEPTUN PORTAL is free of charge.

Maritime Technology Supplier Management

The supplier assessment performed by the shipyard upon delivery of any new buildings is an important tool used to identify potential for improvement. The results of the assessment are discussed with the supplier and measures are agreed. Since 2006, MEYER WERFT has been honouring its best-performing suppliers each year by awarding them the title of “Partner des Jahres“. The award is granted in six different categories based on the results of the supplier assessment. MEYER WERFT‘s “Partner des Jahres“ award has become firmly established in the shipbuilder supply industry, by now. The “MEYER WERFT Regional Day“ staged on a regular basis since 2008 also plays an important role. Companies from the entire region are invited. The event aims at making more intensive use of the existing potential of regional enterprises and further enhancing the economic power in the region as a whole. The “NEPTUN WERFT Regional Day“ held for the first time in 2010, to which companies from the German postcode areas 17, 18, 19 and 23 were invited, was met with great interest.
