1. OBJECTIVE/PURPOSE The aim of this document is to clarify some aspects of the report “Comparative Study of Different Enviromental Techniques in the Sector Producing Magnesium Oxide from Magnesite Via Dry Process” in reply to the requests made by the IEF to the Spanish Environment Ministry (MARM, Ministerio de Medio Ambiente, Medio Rural y Marino). The document has been structured according to the main issues that were asked:
References of the company who carried out the report
Sources of the data used in the report
Specific explanations about the data used for SOX emissions
In order to show the conclusions clearer, it has been also included a qualitative brief of the report about the different techniques assessed. This has been done due to the purpose of the report: it is not to show exact data or numbers but to compare alternatives according their impact on some environmental recipients.

Due to lack of data regarding magnesium oxide production, it has been taken data regarding to cement production from Draft Reference Document on Best Available Techniques in the Cement, Lime and Magnesium Oxide Manufacturing Industries. February 2009. Chapter 1, section 1.4.8.1, page 154 and section 1.4.8.3, page 158.
Section 4.3, page 21. For the generation of 1GJ of electricity in Europe 0.10 kg SO2/GJ and 117 kg CO2/GJ are emitted. Reference Document on Best Available Techniques on Economics and CrossMedia Effects. July 2006. Annex 8-European energy mix, page 110.
