Award for veteran vet now practising Reiki, acupuncture

NO HOLDS BARRED Modi’s historic monogrammed suit, costing a throwaway million rupees, has in a couple of weeks attracted the fancy of a money bag who floored the other suitors by a oneshot offer of Rs. 500,00,00,031 for the Modi-fied Golden Fleece that he wore at a dinner. According to the buyer, it would have absorbed the sweat of the great man while dining in the company of the American President Barack Obama! We, the common men of India, were awed out of our senses at the figure of the original price of one million rupees for the suit. In comparison with Barack’s run of the mill suit, we added a few thousand rupees for the monogram additive but, never having heard of this striped frill, could not stretch it beyond a few thousand more! We live and learn since, not learning what this beautiful world has in store for us, is but the prescription for a bovine life. Live and learn, is the message Modi has sent through the suit-episode. Gold is good. I write with my Parker gold cap pen that my father proudly gave me on my passing the SSLC examination in 1949. I still use it after my life’s journey through colleges and in every profession, emphasising the copy book saying ‘Old is gold’. The other fancy metals do not matter to me if my Parker keeps company with me till it gets tired, falls and dies. The golden pen is still with me and I have half an idea to meet Perumal Murugan, the new Professor of Tamil in Presidency College from where I got my degree and he would, having quenched some public ire and fire because he is blessed with a mind of his own, rise far above the crowd of word and sword wielders. Perumal, I am with you. What you write will be right!

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR Area behind 1st Avenue bus stop misused as urinal Sir, Anyone passing through 55th Street, Ashok Nagar, will be affected by the foul smell near the bus stop close to the 1st Avenue junction. Passersby and nearby vendors have converted the spot behind the bus stop into an open urinal. The men folk relieve themselves oblivious to the presence of woman commuters standing at the stop. Nearby residents and commuters waiting at the stop are affected by the unhygienic condition. I appeal to the authorities to provide a public toilet or take suitable steps to ensure the surrounding is not misused as an urinal.— Dr. K.R. Chidambara Kumarasamy, 53rd Street, Ashok Nagar

Rare species Sir, Recently I hired an auto named ‘Namma Auto’ from Saidapet bus terminus to Padmanabha Swamy temple in Adyar. After reaching my destination I was given a receipt for the fare by the driver who was very polite and courteous. I was very happy about the driver and the company which operates the autos. After some days, I happened to hire an auto from Usman Road (near Saravana Bhavan hotel) to CIT Nagar (near Nandhi statue). I was asked to pay Rs. 50 for such a short trip. Since I was accompanied by my aged mother I paid the amount to the driver. I appeal to auto drivers to charge reasonably like ‘Namma Auto’ and earn the goodwill of the public. Varadhan, CIT Nagar(East)
