2 2.1

TECHNICAL INFORMATIONS Compliance with standards

The alternators have been designed in compliance with: IEC 34-1, CEI 2-3, BS 4999-5000, VDE 0530, NF 51-100, OVE M-10 2.2

Type of construction

The standard types of construction are TWO BEARING (B3/B14) and SINGLE BEARING (B2) with flexplate coupling in compliance with IEC 34-7. Other construction forms are available on request. 2.3

Cooling

The type of cooling is IC 01 in compliance with IEC 34-6 (self ventilated cooling air taken from surrounding ambient). Fans are radial type; air inlet is from opposite drive end side. 2.4

Degree of protection

The standard degree of protection is IP21 in compliance with IEC 34-5. Better protection degrees can be supplied on request (with reduction in output). 2.5

Direction of rotation

Standard generators are proper for clockwise direction of rotation; when operating anticlockwise, the output of generators has to be sligthly reduced. 2.6

Overspeed

The permissible overspeed is 1.25 times the rated speed (at 60 Hz).

3 3.1

DESCRIPTION OF COMPONENTS Bearings

Ball bearings are used. The N.D.E. bearing is sealed type. 3.2

Rotor Balancing

The rotor is balanced dynamically with a half key (for 2 bearing generators). 3.3

Protection of windings

The generators are tropicalised, with special vacuum impregnation process of the windings. On request the additional treatment for damp-saline environment is available. 3.4

Terminal box

The generators are provided with large terminal box suitable for easy connection of output terminals. Standard generators are provided with 12 leads (9 terminals).

4 4.1

EXCITATION SYSTEM General

The standard generators are provided with Automatic Voltage Regulator (AVR) mounted inside the terminal box. The Automatic Voltage Regulator is proper for voltage control in single operation. The voltage regulator is provided with trimmers for stability and voltage settings and is provided with internal deexcitation circuits in case of operation at low speed. 4.2

Voltage regulation

The voltage regulation is within +/- 1% with 3-phase balanced load from no load up to full load, with power factor between 0.8 and 1. 4.3

Transient ratings

The voltage drop due to application of full load at 0.8 power (lagging) is about 18 %: voltage recovers to within +/- 3% of steady state value in less than 0.8 s. 4.4

Manual Voltage setting

The voltage can be set within +/- 5% of the rated value by means of internal trimmer inside the AVR.

5 5.1

ELECTRICAL CHARACTERISTICS Rated power

The rated power of the machine is referred to the following conditions: - balanced non-deforming load - ambient temperature not over 40 C - altitude below 1000 m. above sea level - continuous duty - power factor 0.8 For different operating conditions, multiply the catalogue ratings by the factors K1. Overloads

The following overloads are allowed: 10 % for 1 hour 15 % for 10 minutes 30 % for 4 minutes Such overloads must be occasional and followed by a sufficient time at reduced load to allow cooling of the generator. 4 / 13

Parallel operation

When generators are required to operate in parallel with other generators, they must be required with proper Excitation control devices (optional). 5.4

Frequency

The generators can operate at 50 and 60 Hz. 5.5

Voltages

Standard generators M8B 250 are supplied with 12 leads / 9 terminals, and they are proper for following voltages: series star connection: star parallel connection:

380 – 400 – 415 V 208 – 220 V

50 Hz 50 Hz

450 – 480 V 208 – 240 V

60 Hz 60 Hz

On request generators with special voltages and connections can be supplied. 5.6

Voltage waveform

The line waveform with the machine unloaded or supplying a balanced non 3-phase load is sinusoidal with a residual harmonic content below 5%.
