Ecologogically sound and economical Heating with wood is good for the environment and helps you reliably plan your future energy costs.

Sensible for nature and for us Those who consider the impact on nature are acting to help future generations. Since without functioning natural systems, there wouldn’t be any beneficial living conditions for us. The increasing number of catastrophes due to storms and floods gives an idea of how expensive a disregard of nature can be to us. Wood is stored solar energy and heating

A healthy cycle Plants remove CO2 from the atmosphere. Through decaying and burning, they return exactly as much CO2 to the atmosphere as they previously removed. Heating with wood therefore contributes to a healthy natural CO2 balance in the atmosphere.

Energy prices 2002 - 2006 The demand determines the price. Crude oil will become more expensive as an increasing number of countries require this raw material. An end to this upward spiral in price is nowhere in sight. By contrast, wood prices change only moderately.

The price of fossil fuels has jumped in unpredictable leaps, yet constantly increased (something that was considered unlikely ten years ago). This situation will probably not improve in the medium term. The demand, particularly for crude oil, will continue to increase due to the growth of countries such as China and India. And the price inexorably along with it.

As an operator of a wood heating system, you can considerably influence its efficiency and emissions. A minimum of emissions can be achieved by burning well-dried, split wood. Waste wood or dirty, decayed and very wet wood requires energy for drying, produces less heat and reduces the service life of the boiler. You can only achieve maximum heating performance of the boiler (nominal output) and minimum emissions by using dry wood. The huge influence of water content upon the thermal value is made clear by the following diagram.

stored for millions of years are released into the atmosphere in great quantities. This CO2 increases what’s called the ’greenhouse effect’. Wood has additional advantages: The burning of wood generates lower sulphur dioxide emissions as compared to heating with fossil fuels. Wood is transported over shorter distances from domestic woodlands and thus strengthens the regional economy. But don’t worry about disappearing forests: More wood is grown each year than we consume. Opt for renewable resources. Choose wood.

Control systems: The HDG Euro is equipped with the innovative control system HDG Lambda-Control 1. Detailed information See p. 18 - 19

Varieties of fuel The HDG Euro is suitable for the burning of: Log wood in split logs of up to 50 cm (19") Wood chips Shavings and pressed briquettes

Space-saving ideas have already been integrated in the design of the HDG Euro. The arrangement of the maintenance doors also contributes to low floorspace requirements.

Innovative output and combustion control

The bottom lateral firing enables the use of a large variety of fuels. The innovative construction and ruggedly manufactured burner nozzles ensure – together with the special vortex combustion chamber – optimal postcombustion of the flue gases. Once burning is completed, the air flaps close and the blower switches off. This prevents the flue from cooling down the boiler. The remaining charcoal is intentionally preserved for subsequent lighting.

The servo motors for the primary and secondary air distribute the air precisely in the combustion zone. The primary air is responsible for constant output while the secondary air ensures the lowest emissions throughout the entire burning process.

Fuels: The HDG Navora is designed for the burning of: Half-metre split logs Pressed briquettes Large wood chips

Convenient and compact The HDG Navora convinces buyers with its high level of convenience and space-saving construction. The combustion system and the fuelling chamber dimensioning contribute to refilling intervals being extended to up to 24 hours. This advantage is appreciated by people, who cannot deal with fuelling the heating system during the day.

The HDG Navora is ideally suitable for use in single or two-family homes. If space is at a premium, the HDG Navora is the boiler system of choice. With its limited installation width and floorspace requirements, it can also be used in very tight spaces. The HDG Navora demands little space due to its compact dimensions.

Exemplary user-friendliness

Quick and easy to clean

The operation of the HDG Navora is performed entirely from the front. The large doors, the control elements for the control system as well as the flue bypass damper are all centrally positioned. The large fuelling chamber – comprising 150 litres – allows long intervals between refillings.

All cleaning openings are large-sized and can be accessed with no disassembly of housing components.

The large fuelling and cleaning doors with an opening angle of over 100 degrees makes the operation simple. An ingenious rear ventilation feature has been integrated. This results in low surface temperatures and keeps the heat where it belongs – in your heating system.

The combustion chamber of the HDG Navora consists of eight identically large, refractory elements. Their level surfaces can easily be cleaned from the front. A cleaning tool is included with the boiler. Ergonomics in practice: The feed opening edge is located at the convenient height of 80 cm so that inserting the wood places as little strain as possible on the body and the burner nozzle is adequately accessible.

During refuelling, flue gasses are prevented from escaping by an ingenious flue bypass damper. thus do not infiltrate the boiler room.

The combustion chamberof of the To facilitate transport theHDG ash,Navora the

boiler has an integrated ash box, which can simply be slid into the lower boiler housing.

Continuous optimal heat transfer – with a single motion By pulling the lever of the flue bypass damper, the cleaning turbolaters are moved and thereby clean the heat exchanger surfaces. With this cleaning system, a continuous optimal heat transfer is assured.

The doors can be optionally attached on the left or right.

The cleaning principle of the HDG Navora is unique.

Quality. For a long service life HDG boilers systems distinguish themselves through their durability. The HDG Navora is one such system, with a fuelling chamber that comes complete with removable panels. HDG log wood boiler

Output: 12 kW and 14.9 kW

Fuel selection: The HDG SL is designed for heating with: Log wood Wood waste Wood chips Shavings Pressed briquettes

HDG SL Independent and flexible The HDG SL has a very compact construction and is therefore also suitable if the available space is very limited. The HDG SL is an especially popular solution if wood is to be used as a supplemental fuel: The HDG SL then serves as an auxiliary boiler for existing systems, such as oil or gas burners for

example. However, the HDG also offers economic advantages and additonal security for heat pumps and solar systems, which are often used in energy-saving homes. With the appropriate layout of the heating system, the main heating automatically switches on if the supply of energy through the HDG SL decreases.

The HDG SL is easy to combine with existing systems. Here it supports a pellet heating system, the HDG Pelletmaster.

Flexible in many areas The HDG SL particularly distinguishes itself through its flexible application options. It can thus be optimally integrated to provide support to existing systems. With its compact dimensions, it can be used in most places where an additional wood-heated boiler is desired. The HDG SL can be easily loaded from the top.

Operation and maintenance The HDG SL is a natural draught boiler filled from the top. The ergonomically designed height of the infeed edge facilitates loading. The extendable grate can be shaken for easy ash removal. The integrated ash container allows the ash to be emptied cleanly.

Optional equipment HDG flue gas blower The natural ventilation boiler HDG SL can also be additionally equipped with a flue gas blower on request. This makes preheating, refilling, cleaning, as well as ash removal simply easier.

The boiler sheet steel in the fuelling chamber area of the HDG SL (14) is 8 mm thick. Details such as this make clear the consistent emphasis HDG places on a long service life.

Shake and it’s empty: The grate of the HDG SL provides for easy ash removal.

HDG control technology Simple operation

High-tech for optimal values

Refilling and cleaning As the boiler is refilled with fuel and cleaned, the fuelling chamber is pre-ventilated and flue gases are evacuated by means of suction fans.

HDG control systems employ the most modern electronics in order to achieve the lowest emissions, high performance and an impressive operating efficiency for the entire heating system. HDG offers two high-quality control systems: HDG Basic-Control and HDG Lambda-Control 1.

HDG Basic-Control Intelligent energy management The integrated return flow temperature maintenance prevents damage from corrosion. The accumulator bypass enables a priority supplying to the heating system and hot water. Simple and safe operation During the refilling of the fuel and when cleaning the boiler, the fuelling chamber is automatically pre-ventilated – as this is done, the flue gases are evacuated off by means of suction fans. An easy-to-perform safety test is included. Protection program Once every week – even in summer-time operation – the controller automatically starts the protection program, which prevents corrosion through ventilation of the boiler and chimney. In addition, the motors start up and the mixers are opened and closed: a “jamming of moving parts“ is thereby prevented. Functions Return flow temperature control Suction fan control Accumulator bypass Protection program

HDG Lambda-Control 1 Intelligent emission management In the HDG Lambda-Control 1, the following parameters are continually measured and also shown on the display: the residual oxygen in the flue gas (with the aid of the oxygen probe), in order to achieve optimal combustion the exhaust air temperature (with the aid of the flue gas temperature sensor), in order to achieve a constant degree of efficiency; the temperatures of the boiler and accumulator, in order to determine their operating statuses. The HDG Lambda-Control 1 continuously adapts the measured values automatically to the preset optimal values. Even with varying types of fuel, a constant burning quality is achieved. Use of residual heat The use of residual heat enables an optimal utilisation of fuel and thereby results in lengthier intervals between refillings. Functions Return flow temperature control Suction fan control Accumulator bypass Protection program Use of residual heat Refill signal and oil/gas boiler release Combustion control through oxygen probe as well as primary and secondary air control

The oxygen sensor Optimal placement within the HDG boiler ensures a very long service life. Refill signal The refill signal on the controller, or in your living area, indicates that the accumulator temperature has dropped to below 40 (for example). Once the system has been refilled with fuel, the accumulator can absorb energy again.

Refill button The control system is very simple to operate. For everyday operation, it is only necessary to press the refill button.

Protection program

The use of modern electronics makes it possible to continually improve the performance of wood heating systems. HDG puts this technology to use. HDG Lambda Control offers the following benefits: Very high degree of system efficiency Especially low fuel consumption Extremely low emission values.

Return flow temperature maintenance Integrated return flow temperature maintenance prevents corrosion damage.

The HDG Lambda Control system continuously monitors the following parameters and shows them on the display: Residual oxygen level in the flue gas (with the aid of the oxygen sensor) The exhaust temperature, for a constant degree of efficiency The temperature of the boiler and the accumulator.

Once every week – even in summer mode – the controller starts the protection program. This prevents corrosion of the boiler and the chimney by means of forced ventilation. The oxygen sensor is automatically purged with oxygen and heated. In addition, the boilers motors start up, mixer valves operate and the water circulating pump is started and stopped to prevent “sticking”.

This technology is intended for systems which need to be able provide absolute peak performance in the above mentioned areas. These are: the HDG Euro, the HDG Navora and the HDG Turbotec.

Residual heat utilisation The use of residual heat enables the optimal utilisation of fuel and significantly extends refill intervals.

Accumulator bypass The accumulator bypass makes it possible to give priority to the heating system and hot water.

The HDG Lambda Control system constantly adapts the measured values automatically to the preset optimal values. This enables optimal combustion quality to be maintained, regardless of the type, size and moisture content of the fuel being used.

HDG system components

The perfect complete system The economical and ecological performance of a log wood system is decisively influenced by the quality and functional condition of the supplementary components.

HDG therefore devotes the greatest attention to these modules. HDG components have been proven over the years and fit perfectly into HDG’s well thought out overall system.

The HDG accumulator system: energy delivered as needed The HDG accumulator absorbs the surplus energy and delivers it back as needed. In summer, hot water sufficient for several days usage can be heated up at one time. Thus, no energy loss occurs, and in addition very long intervals between refillings can be achieved. Increased convenience, greater economy and environmental protection more than justify the investment in a accumulator.

The numerous connection options allow an unproblematic, flexible linkage of multiple accumulator appropriate for the HDG hydraulic systems. The size or volume of the accumulator is calculated from the boiler capacity, the fuelling chamber volume and the building’s thermal load – and should also be adapted to meet your personal comfort requirements.
