Accommodation For hotel accommodation, there were two hotels designated for UNDESA participants for which the Government of Uganda negotiated discounted rates. Kindly note that participants are responsible to make their own reservations and to pay the hotel directly for the duration of their stay. Registration UNDESA participants, both funded and non-funded need NOT register as this will be arranged by UNDESA/UMI directly. UNDESA funded participants and resource persons need NOT pay registration fees. The registration fee is also waived for the participants from the United Nations, including its agencies and funds. All other participants that are not funded by UNDESA must pay the registration fee of $350 during the hotel check-in.

Visa Visa On Arrival A visa – for those who require one – can be arranged for pick-up upon arrival at Entebbe International Airport or at any overland border at a cost of US$ 100. A six months (6) valid passport is mandatory, return air ticket and invitation letter to the conference. All non-East African community and COMESA delegates are required to get an entry visa. To be granted a visa on arrival, all participants are required to provide Ms. Benedicte Niviere ([email protected]) with the following information: passport number and name of hotel. An Invitation letter from Uganda Management Institute (UMI) will be issued to facilitate the issue of visa on arrival. You MUST present this letter to boarder authorities to receive your entry visa.

Airport transfer Starting on 23 August the host will provide airport transfer from the Entebbe International Airport to Kampala. Upon arrival, please look for the Conference banner and approach the desk for assistance. Kindly note that those UNDESA participants that will arrive prior to August 23, will NOT be met upon arrival to the international airport and are requested to arrange for the transportation to their hotel by themselves. There are airport taxis readily available and the fair to Kampala is about US$50. The international Airport is 40 km away.

General Information about Kampala Currency/Banks The unit of currency is the Uganda shilling. The US dollar is traditionally the hard currency of preference, but the Euro, pound sterling and South African Rand are also widely accepted. Hard currency cash can be changed for local currency at banks and private bureau de change in all large towns, but travellers’ cheques are not widely accepted outside Kampala. Local currency can be drawn against Visa credit cards at selected ATMs in Kampala, at Entebbe International Airport, and in a few other large towns. Please note Pre 2000 USD cash notes are accepted at a lower rate. Most forex bureaus and banks give lower exchange rates for smaller denomination dollar bills.

Climate The climate is highly agreeable, reflecting the combination of an equatorial location and medium to high altitudes. Daytime temperatures are generally warm averaging about 26 degrees Celsius.
