Color Rendering Index (CRI) Correlated Color 12000K Cree’s Standard Chromaticity Regions Plotted on the 1931 CIE Curve Temperature (CCT)

CRI indicates how well a light source renders colors, on a scale of 0 to 100, compared to a reference light source of similar color temperature. The 4000K test procedure established by the International . Commission on Illumination (CIE) involves measuring the extent to which a series of eight . 7 3000K standardized color samples differ in appearance 6 . when illuminated 7 under a given light source, relative & to the reference source. The average “shift” in 6 % & samples is reported as Ra or 7 those eight color ' % 6 CRI. In addition to the eight color samples used by $ ' & 7 convention, some lighting 8 manufacturers report an 2000K $ % 5 “R9” score, which indicates how well the light source ' 8 & 5 renders a saturated deep red color. $ 7000K

&& &&\

CCT describes the relative color appearance of a white light source, indicating whether it appears more yellow/gold or more blue, in terms of the range of available shades of white. CCT is given in Kelvin (SI unit of absolute temperature) and refers to the appearance of a theoretical black body heated to high. temperatures. As the black body gets red, orange, yellow, hotter, it turns . white, and finally blue. The CCT of 6 a light source is the temperature (in 7 % K) at which the heated black body 6 & matches the color of the light source $ % ' in question. 5 $

Binning

During the manufacturing process of white LEDs, some variance in color occurs. To overcome this issue, LEDs of &&[ the same color quality are grouped together in a process called binning correlating to the chart below. An ANSI standard is used to ensure consistency. White LEDs with color most resembling sunlight and incandescent sources are identified by how close they lay near the Black Body Curve. 0.45

A measurement of the rate at which energy is consumed by a device. A 400 watt lamp will consume energy at a rate of 4 times higher than a 100 watt lamp. A kilowatt is 1,000 watts.

Lamp Info

Wattage

Lumens per Watt The number of lumens (measurement of light produced in the visible spectrum) divided by the total watts used to create the light. Candlepower (CP) The luminous intensity of a beam in a given direction, expressed in Candelas. Rated Lamp Life The longevity of a light source is established through laboratory testing. For traditional lamp types, a sample group of lamps are burned, having been subjected to several starts per day — the length of time required for half of the lamps to fail determines that product’s rated life. For LEDs this is calculated differently. LEDs do not burn out like traditional lamps; rather, their brightness slowly fades. So, if the lifespan of an LED is listed at 50,000 hours that is the point when the LED will most likely be shining at 70% of its initial brightness.

MONORAIL TRANSFORMER INFORMATION SeleCtinG a Transformer Low voltage systems require transformers that convert line voltage into low voltage 12V or 24V which is safe to touch. Transformers are available in different versions based on mounting, transformer type, wattage or voltage. Lamps should not exceed the transformer’s total rated wattage on the section of system that the transformer is powering. A simple example: up to three 50 watt lamps can be used with a 150 watt transformer. LED 12V AC lamps can be used with 12V 150, 300, or 600 (dual 300) watts magnetic or 12V 60 or 150 watt LED electronic transformers. Understanding the basics will help guide you to the right type of transformer for your particular installation. For Dimming LED’s visit www.edgelighting.com.

MOUNTING remote transformers

OR surfaCe mount transformers

Rail 1" from ceiling Rail 1" from ceiling

Remote Transformers provide a cleaner look because they are hidden from view, installed in accessible locations such as above the ceiling or in a closet. Install the Remote Transformer as close as possible (within 20 ft.) to the power feed canopy (sold separately). Run the proper gauge wire from the transformer to the electrical box where the power feed canopy is installed (see “Low Voltage Wire Size Chart” on next page). Remote transformers come with multi-tap outputs allowing proper output selection based on a range of input voltages (105-125 VAC).

Surface Mount Transformers use an existing electrical box within the range of the system run to power the system. The transformer is enclosed in a decorative housing matching the system’s finish. Monorail can be mounted as close as 1 inch from the ceiling with all size transformers thanks to our patent-pending side feed rail mount system. Surface Mount Transformers are also available in versions extended up to 96" from the ceiling.

TRANSFORMER TYPE maGnetiC

OR eleCtroniC

Electronic Transformers are compact and much lighter than magnetic ones, and can be reset at the wall switch in the event of a short or overload. They are dimmable with low voltage electronic dimmers. For Dimming LEDs visit www.edgelighting.com.

Magnetic Transformers offer reliability and a wide range of output wattages. They are dimmable with low voltage magnetic dimmers. A fast acting circuit breaker is housed on the transformer; it will shut the system off in case of short or overload, and can be easily reset once the problem is corrected. Dimming coil is enclosed to minimize any buzzing that can occur.

12 Volt Transformers are the industry “standard” and are most commonly used. 12V lamps offer the widest variety of wattages and beam spreads on the market. At 12V, you can run on a single feed canopy up to 300 watts on a system; on a dual-feed canopy up to 600 watts (300 watts each way).

24 volt

24 Volt

600 Watt

Using 24 Volt Transformers allows you have less voltage drop on the low voltage feed wire from the transformer to the canopy. For larger installations, you can use more lamps and longer rail runs, with up to 600 watts on a single circuit Monorail system (single circuit only). Ideal for commercial jobs.

Hand-bendable Monorail Single Circuit can be powered by either 12V or 24V transformers. A variety of transformers and fixtures are available for the Monorail Single Circuit. This system can also be used on wall applications; with its dedicated hardware and fixtures it is known as Monorail Wall system.

The hand-bendable Monorail Two Circuit allows twice as many fixtures to be used on the same run, with the capability of each circuit being controlled by individual switch/dimmer. This 12V system is ideal for multitask or layers of lighting that require independent light control, like pendants on one circuit and heads on the other (up to four 300 watt with transformer and dual feed canopy, for a total of 1200 watts).

TRANSFORMERS RECESSED IN WALL

MS-6-_ 6" Standoff

Recessed remote magnetic transformers are best suited for remodel construction or cement ceilings. They are available in 12V and 24V 300 and 600 watt. Power can be drawn from a wall outlet. Use with feed-end power canopies (sold separately on p. 53 or in kit below). For more information on transformers and kits, visit www.edgelighting.com. SYSTEM 9”

DIMMERS AND DIMMING COILS All Edge Lighting transformers can be dimmed. Transformers are dimmed on the primary side of the transformer. Low voltage magnetic dimmers are used with magnetic transformers. Low voltage electronic dimmers are used with electronic transformers. When using magnetic low voltage dimmers with magnetic transformers, there is a possibility of transformer buzz. Surface mounted magnetic transformers include an integral dimming coil in the housing. If a remote magnetic transformer controlled by a magnetic dimmer buzzes excessively, add a de-buzzing dimming coil (sold separately as shown below) in series to the hot wire. TYPE Ordering code

HOw TO bEND MONORAIL bend rail by hand Monorail is easily hand-bendable. It bends to a 9" radius. Tighter bends available for special custom orders.

18" Diameter circle using 15" diameter plywood disk

• To bend Monorail free-style, center the bending point on Monorail between both hands as far apart as possible moving them close together as bending progresses and the desired shape is achieved. • When bending the Monorail against a rigid form such as plywood, always use a form about 20% smaller than the desired curve to compensate the Monorail spring-back. Hold one end of the Monorail against the form then progress along the rail while bending to follow shape.
