Marques Arpa, from Tenerife Isle (Spain), was accepted and now we deal with a new Working Group on Solidarity and Co-operation. This is the Liga that I like! A Liga with a big Heart, a Liga with its eyes in the direction of the poor and countries with difficulties. It is not foolish sentimentalism, but the only way to give life to a world association that risks entering the dry paths of simple political, financial and power perspectives. Over the last months, the Ebola emergency has pushed us to start with an “Ebola relief action” and I was surprised to see how much Love some colleagues were ready to put on the table. Colleagues ready to go out in the field, under the threat of their own life. I am proud to be the president of such an association! Of course we had to face difficulties with the project and while we were ready to go, the experts were ready to study the Genius of the epidemic, some Laboratories offered their remedies, the political and bureaucratic problems stopped us and our volunteers couldn’t treat Ebola patients. It’s a pity because we know that Homeopathy can offer real relief to the ill people of Africa. Let’s see what can rise from this

by, Renzo Galassi Dear Colleagues, we come back to our ordinary life after a summer of activities and emotions. We were able to meet in Paris for the 69th LMHI Congress and it was a good event. As every congress we had very interesting scientific papers and a lot of possibilities to exchange our ideas about our wonderful and unique Medicine. During the previous meetings, the Executive Committee meeting and the International Council, we had the possibility to face and talk about the problems of our world association. There were many topics on the table, administrative and financial ones, but also philanthropic proposals. My idea, together with the newly elected Secretary for PR, Dr. Antonio THE LIGA NEWS • November 2014 • www.lmhi.org

experience for the future, in any case we can say that we have tried to do our best. Let’s hope that from now until our next Congress in Rio de Janeiro, in August, good news will fill our daily life, a life of work and study, under the example of our Master Samuel Hahnemann. Kind regards

Dr. Renzo Galassi – LMHI President

Editor’s Note

Dr. Richard Hiltner

Dear colleagues, I am writing this Editors Note three weeks after I arrived back from Liberia. All of my team colleagues are doing very well. I feel fine and trying to catch up on my work. I wish also to thank very much Karl Robinson for his volunteering to go to Liberia in the next team.

She also listed the various members of the Ganta hospital, such as Victor Doolakeh Taryor (Chief Administrator and ever present guide and instructor), Dr Willicore, (Chief Hospital Physician), Head Nurse Nora and so many others for their compassion, advice and cooperation.

I wish to especially thank my dear friends and colleagues of the Ebola project team: Ortrud Lindemann (Barcelona, Spain), Medha Durge (India) and Ed Broussalian (Switzerland). I learned a great deal from them and saw how deeply their warm hearts wish to ease the pain of people not only with the Ebola virus but also the patients in the Ganta hospital.

The people in Liberia were very friendly and caring and there was much beauty in its green rolling hills.

Much thanks to Renzo Galassi, President of the LMHI, for his enthusiasm, warm heart and organizational skill. I also wish to thank especially Altunay (Treasurer for the LMH I and project coordinator) for all the tremendous work she did to help us on this journey. Ortrud gave in her excellent final report a much more detail summary of the main people that were so helpful to our team; to name just a few: Curt Kösters, Cornelia Bajic, Andre Saine, all of the Executive Committee, the pharmacies donation of medicines, and many others.

I’m very happy that I participated in this project. Even though we did not obtain all that we wished due to bureaucracy in treating Ebola patients, the Ganta hospital was able to see the value of homeopathy. My Colleagues and I treated approximately 30 patients, including doctors, nurses, pharmacists, inpatients and outpatients with generally good results. Hopefully, with the follow-up of other teams, Liberia will be able to help much of its illnesses with homeopathy. Leaving you on a happy note, Ortrud and Medha took a picture of the rear of a large truck on a bumpy road with a sign saying: WHY WORRY Onwards and upwards. Richard

Fruzsina Gabor, 1970 – 2014 By Dr. Sara Eames

Fruzsina was well known to so many of us as the previous LMHI pharmacy secretary, and the news of her untimely death in July 2014, came as a great shock to many of her friends and colleagues. Her dedicated work for the homeopathic community worldwide and for homeopathic pharmacy in particular, was widely admired and appreciated. She was one of the pioneers reinstating Homeopathy in post cold war Hungary, and one old friend remembered how initially she had to go to a government office to get an official stamp for every homeopathic prescription, but as we all learned, it took far more than that to deter Fruzsina! She became active in LMHI in 2000, when she joined the scientific committee for the conference organisation. She played an important role in supporting the motion to make pharmacists full members of LMHI, in the official definition of the homeopathic remedy and in changing the conference regulations to establish an obligatory pharmacy session. She collaborated closely with colleagues in other committees including those for research, dentistry and public relations. She was also very active in ECH and was a brilliant translator. She translated the ComTHE LIGA NEWS • November 2014 • www.lmhi.org

plete Repertory into Hungarian, and even more remarkably, learned written Chinese in order to be able to translate a repertory for them too. I first met Fruzsina at the conference in LA when we were both elected as new secretaries for LMHI. She became one of my closest friends in LMHI and ECH meetings and I came to admire and respect her fantastic combination of high quality detailed work for homeopathy, about which she felt so passionately, her unusual modesty and her warmth, kindness and sometimes naughty sense of humour! This is summed up so well in the many tributes which LMHI received about her life and work:-

‘a very dedicated, brave and joyful lady,’ ‘. Her love for Homeopathy, her competence, her strong opinions were her personal brand. On the other hand the huge heart that throbbed in her chest was always available to help her friends with sweetness and care.’ ‘We loved this hard worker with her bags full of chocolates and sweets,’ ‘She was able to appreciate the small and valuable good mo-

ments life offers for laugh and friendship,’ ‘A great heart, a great person, a friend!’ ‘When you were with her, you felt that she had a special place for you in her heart, her large heart, where all of us received that special warmth that she would give us.’ We all send our condolences to her family, who must be devastated to lose her so soon, but so many also feel she will still be with us and inspiring us.

‘dear friend Fruzsina (her name came from Euphrasia, she told us), I wish you light, love and peace’ ‘Dear Fruzsina, we won’t say goodbye to you, as Persian poet and Sufi mystic Rumi wrote: „Goodbyes are only for those who love with their eyes, because for those who love with heart and soul there is no such thing as separation.“ Fruzsina, thank you for everything you did as a friend to us all, and for homeopathy, and may we all strive to help achieve your vision for the science of homeopathy.

New members of the Executive Committee.

Over the last months, two members of our Executive committee decided to step down from their position. They are Dr. Sara Eames, secretary for PR and Dr. Yves Faingnaert our beloved treasurer. As Sara sent her resignation in time to organize a new call for election we organize everything for the International council meeting and Dr. Antonio Marques Arpa, from Tenerife Isle (Spain) was elected for the next 2 years, until the end of the term that will be in 2016, during the LMHI Congress of Buenos Aires, Argentina. As regards the Treasurer, the resignation was too late to organize a legal election so, the officers had to take the decision to invite a person who could work as treasurer “ad Interim” and, considering her

skills, the presence of our secretariat in Izmir, the young age and the possibility to go on with this work, we decided to propose to the Assembly the name of Dr. Altunay Soylemez Agaoglu. She was accepted unanimously an so we want now introduce them to you with their short CV and a photo. Congratulation Altunay and Antonio, welcome in our big family ………. where we have a few honor, but a lot of work to do together for our Medicine!!! Friendly,

Some Interesting Anecdotes about Case Taking and Case Analysis On the first morning of a three-day seminar in Vienna in the mid-1990s, I mentioned that on average three hours are needed to take a complete case of a patient with a chronic disease of moderate complexity. At the back of the class was a group of doctors who disagreed and said they were doing very good work by taking chronic cases in about an hour. They were so dissatisfied with my approach to homeopathy that they left at the first break and didn’t come back for the rest of the seminar. I regularly see patients who have been failed cases in the hands of well-known homeopaths. I remember in particular one such patient, who was suffering from depression, extreme fatigue and muscular weakness, and severe headaches associated with idiopathic intracranial hypertension, all of which were keeping her in bed for one to four days a week. She had consulted five other practitioners over a period of 13 years before I saw her in the late 1990s. It was a complex case with a history of rape and abusive relationships. I needed five hours to take her case before I was sure of the prescription. She responded wonderfully well to the remedy and during the following 15 years has continued to respond to the same remedy whenever she is unwell. Once, I asked her how much time each of my predecessors had taken to examine her. She said they had all taken her case in between one and two hours. To this day, I am puzzled by how my predecessors in this case felt satisfied enough with such a short version of an anamnesis to prescribe with certainty. But the facts are clear: here we have a patient who had spent a great deal of money and time over many years traveling many thousands of miles to visit five doctors in three different countries on two continents but without obtaining any benefit whatsoever. Fortunately, however, she had such faith in homeopathy that she never abandoned it and finally received the results she had always expected and that she should have received to begin with. Was my practice of spending three hours on average to take a chronic case such an anomaly? Let us see. Within the first month of his arrival in France in 1835, Hahnemann addressed the members of the Society of Homeopaths of Paris. In particular, he said that homeopathy is a very difficult art to practice, and that in order to have the courage to study it and later to practice it conscientiously with the maturity that it requires, one must have a limitless dedication to the welfare of humanity. He added that a homeopath needs one or two hours to take a case and then as much time THE LIGA NEWS • November 2014 • www.lmhi.org

Dr. André Saine again to analyze the case. Therefore, late in his career, Hahnemann recommended a total of two to four hours for the combination of case taking and case analysis, or an average of three hours;. that is exactly how much time I spend on average with an new adult patient, since I am conducting the analysis of the case while I take it. Incidentally, that is the length of time I had arrived at over the years on my own for obtaining a complete picture of the disease and finding its simillimum in the materia medica. Dr. Adolph Lippe was often referred to by his contemporaries as the best prescriber that homeopathy ever had. Moreover, it was not unusual to hear that he was a “flash” prescriber, a rumor that has persisted to the present day. In the early 1990s, I met Dr. Georg von Keller in the medical library of the University of Michigan. He was then a senior homeopathic physician from Tübingen in Germany. One of the first things he told me in the library, and was proud of, was that he was seeing close to 125 patients a day, since he was prescribing like Lippe, “very quickly.” I told him it was true that Lippe was known as someone capable of taking an acute case very quickly, particularly during epidemics, but that it wasn’t the case with chronic patients. Later that day, I showed him an article on exactly that subject by Dr. Edmund Lee, a former student and practice associate of Lippe’s. Dr. Lee wrote, “As we have said, these opinions give a false impression, especially to those who did not know Dr. Lippe personally. This impression has already borne fruit, for at the meeting of the International Hahnemannian Association of 1888, a speaker alluded to Dr. Lippe as ‘a flash prescriber.’ We reiterate, this view of Dr. Lippe’s success is misleading. No physician can succeed in the practice of homeopathic medicine unless he studies and studies hard at that; no one knew this better that the late Dr. Adolph Lippe. He was endowed with the gift for drug analysis and a quickness of perception

in discerning the symptoms of his patients which were the indicators for choosing his drug. The only other ‘genius’ Dr. Lippe possessed was a disposition to work hard and a profound admiration for the Organon. There are few men of even moderate ability who cannot achieve all of Dr. Lippe’s ‘genius’ if they work as hard as he did and in the right way. Bönninghausen was undoubtedly a grand prescriber, and it is an honor for any one to be compared with him; but we doubt if he, or any other physician, ever studied out his cases with more unvaried care than did the late Dr. Lippe. No flashes of genius could have enabled one to cure the many chronic cases which he cured; diligent, careful work is required to gain such results. The necessity for this diligent study of the materia medica was impressed upon Dr. Lippe by his preceptor, the late Dr. Wesselhoeft; often have we heard him tell how his preceptor made him thumb his materia medica. “Often has the writer heard Dr. Lippe say, in speaking of different physicians, ‘he does not study his cases thoroughly,’ or make some such remark, indicating the importance he attached to such study. The writer was one associated with Dr. Lippe in the care of a very difficult case, in which he has frequently known to spend hour after hour patiently conning the materia medica (this, too, after nearly forty years spend at such study). Many a time would he say, ‘Come over tonight and we will study the case over’; frequently have we asked his advice; before replying he would almost invariably take down a book or two to look up the remedy desired. Dr. Adolph Lippe was in no sense ‘a flash prescriber.’ “Genius has been defined as an unlimited capacity for hard work; this genius Dr. Lippe had and used it diligently (and in the right way) for forty [fifty] odd years. Was it then any wonder that he could occasionally prescribe quickly? He never prescribed until he felt sure of his remedy, and though he was quick in seeing the peculiar features of his patient’s history, and rapid in selecting his remedy, he was never so quick as to be termed careless. There is a distinction to be noted here; one man may spend hours on a case and then make a careless prescription; another with better-trained mind may prescribe in a few minutes and make a very careful, accurate prescription. “We do not pretend to affirm that Dr. Lippe did not make mistakes; very probably he would have been the last man to deny legions of them; but we do believe that as a homeopathic prescriber neither Bönninghausen nor Hahnemann himself would suf-

fer in comparing clinical results with their great admirer—Adolph Lippe.” When Dr. Arthur Eastman was a student at the Hahnemann Medical College of Philadelphia in the late 1870s, he lived in Dr. Constantine Hering’s house and was thus able to observe his mentor closely in the last year of his practice. He wrote, “Dr. Hering retained an old German custom to have a couple of students from the College reside in his family to keep in
touch with the work and progress of the College. These places
were much sought after, and happy he to whose lot fell the
choice. I resided in his family during three courses of lectures,
two winter terms and one spring term, from the fall of 1877
to the spring of 1879, and was also a frequent caller on him
while I was resident physician in the Homeopathic Hospital
of Philadelphia until December 1879. … “How did he [Hering] prescribe medicines? One might answer, very nearly as Hahnemann directed. He said: ‘There is an individuality in everything that the Lord has made. You cannot substitute one medicine for another. To mix medicines is a crime. Alternating is the half-way house to mixing. To make poor prescriptions when much driven is excusable, but the questions which must be kept freshly in mind are: What is your aim? What are you striving for? If a homeopathic physician once adopts the too-muchtrouble creed, he is lost.’ It was certainly not his creed. His rules of practice, ‘golden rules,’ he called them, were ‘Learn to observe; learn to prove; learn to examine the sick; learn to select the remedy; learn how to repeat and how to change remedies; learn how to wait; learn how to profit by experience.’ “His method of examining a patient was an art. He took notes on his cases, full notes, and then would repair to his prescription room, where he could consult his repertories: his Jahr, his Bönninghausen, and then his materia medica. His remedy one selected, he would generally give in a high potency, way up in the thousandths sometimes. He had small envelopes with printed directions on the outside. Each contained six powders of Saccharum lactis, one of them containing some pellets of the indicated remedy and marked with a star. The directions were to dissolve the star powder in water and take a teaspoonful four times or more a day [for one day only], and go on each succeeding day with the other powders. You see, they took the medicine only one day, then placebos the succeeding days for a week, when

they would report. If improvement, marked improvement resulted, they would get another envelope of blank powders for another week. If improvement stopped, they would get another powder of the same medicine of a higher potency, and, as he would say, ‘High and higher still, to heaven.’ If the patient was worse, a new remedy had to be selected, generally a remedy having some relationship to the first. Dr. Hering did not confine himself exclusively to high potencies or single doses. In certain cases, he repeated his remedies frequently. In chronic diseases the interval that elapsed between the doses might be two, four, seven, eleven, or sixteen days. In acute cases, he says, ‘The dose might be repeated as often as every hour, or even every five or ten minutes.’ He never alternated remedies, but if the symptoms suddenly changed he would often change his remedy. His success was phenomenal. Long-standing, chronic maladies yielded to his treatment. So-called incurable patients were cured by him. Patients came to him from the world over and were improved and cured. “I will relate one case of his marvelous prescribing: One evening, in the summer of 1879, while resident physician in the hospital, I called on Dr. Hering. ‘Come in, come in and sit down. Well, what is new at the hospital?’ I replied, ‘Nothing startling, Doctor. A poor fellow came in, a charity patient, who had been at the University Hospital and at the Pennsylvania Hospital, and both Da Costa and Pepper have diagnosed his disease locomotor ataxia and beyond help.’ ‘So Da Costa and Pepper can no nothing? Bring him over to me.’ I replied, ‘He is beyond relief and only a poor weaver and has no money to pay a doctor.’ He replied, ‘Oh, damn the money! Bring him over here tomorrow at five. I must see him,’ he said with the fire of youth in his dark eyes, and the stroke of his fist on his desk. And so I did. With notebook in hand, he began asking symptoms and modalities, beginning with the patient’s ancestors—and such a history as he took! He examined him thoroughly from top to toe in every possible manner. In the meantime, Dr. Hering’s reception room was filling with patients and Dr. Knerr motioned me to step into the hall, where he said, ‘Try and get that patient out, as Dr. Hering still has much important work to do.’ After an hour’s examination, Dr. Hering said, closing his book, ‘Bring him over again tomorrow.’ The next day Dr. Hering spent another hour

with the poor weaver, and then said, ‘Bring him over again tomorrow.’ After continuing the examination for another hour, closing his book, Dr. Hering said to me, ‘You come alone tomorrow.’ I said, ‘What remedy shall I give him?’ He answered, ‘I cannot tell until I have studied it more.’ The next day I returned and he had a sort of condensed summing up of the case written in German, and after more conversation he went to his prescription room and brought me an envelope, with the remark, ‘This is Rhus tox, 65 M. Give it to him and report in a week.’ The poor fellow had to be taken to Hering in a wheelchair and could only take a few steps with the assistance of two canes. His condition was very distressing. To make a long story short, Dr. Hering treated him for about four months, when the poor weaver walked out of the hospital without canes, seemingly on the road to compete recovery.” In other words, Hering, who had by then been practicing homeopathy for close to 55 years and had been writing his magnum opus, The Guiding Symptoms, for almost 30 years, needed three hours to take the case and had to spend an indefinite amount of time studying the case afterwards to find the exact correspondence in the books. Students of Dr. Pierre Schmidt’s have told me that their teacher would examine each new patient for three hours during the morning session and have him or her return for another two hours in the afternoon for a detailed physical examination. The practice of genuine homeopathy is based on the totality of symptoms, which includes all the symptoms that the patient has manifested since infancy. Therefore, we never work with a truly complete case, since a great number of old symptoms have long been forgotten and many other current ones escape a patient’s notice. However, as physicians we have the duty to investigate all pertinent aspects of a patient, as Hahnemann explained so well in paragraphs 82-104 of the Organon. The application of the law of similars requires great precision, and there seems to be no easy way of obtaining consistent and predictable success in homeopathy other than to leave no stone unturned in taking a case and by conducting the process of differential materia medica until one is reasonably certain of having found the simillimum corresponding to the genius of the patient’s disease.

Logic and Homeopathy Apparently there are almost as many methods of prescribing as there are prescribers. This is the impression we get if we look through the homeopathic – secondary- literarture and find personal opinions and fragmentary statements by colleagues and practioners of how they did or thought they did their prescribing. The case taking, case analysis and the prescribed remedies are often not consistent, confusing and not very helpful for the students in homeopathy. Sometimes they indicate, that there exists a basic method somewhere, but often one gets the impression that their authors were either unaware of the nature of the principles they were using or that they took it for granted that the student already possessed the required knowledge. The remarkable cures performed by such men as Hahnemann, Boenninghausen, Hering, Kent, and others are commonly regarded as having been due to some „mysterious“ power possessed by them as individuals. That similar results are attainable by anyone who will master the method as designed by Hahnemann is difficult for many to believe. Unfortunately a clear and comprehensive statement of the logical principles involved and an identification of the source from which they are drawn is missed in most of the homeopathic secondary literature. Many teachers seem to forget Hahnemanns words: „The highest ideal of cure is rapid, gentle and permanent restoration of the health….on easily comprehensible principles“. (German:„…nach deutlich einzusehenden Gründen“), S.Hahnemann, Organon 6. edit. § 2 Most of the homeopathic physicians might be surprised on understanding that homeopathy is founded and constructed on logical principles and that all its processes, if they are correctly and efficiently applied, must be conducted under the principles and by the methods of logic. Probably many of us had been practicing homeopathy quite some time before realizing that logic as a science had any relation with homeopathic prescribing. Realizing that a good case taking, a diagnosis, a case analysis as well as a good prescription, depended on a correct application of the principles of logic. This should encourage us to study or remind us of some of these principles. The Logic of Bacon, Mill and Hahnemann,    the  Inductive Logic is related to facts and concerns itself with reality. Its primary purpose is the discovery THE LIGA NEWS • November 2014 • www.lmhi.org

Dr. Ulrich Fischer and use of truth. The first requirement of Inductive Logic is that the premises must be true , this means they must be the result of true and valid observation of facts, based on pure experimentation. Before we are in a position to make deductions, classifications and generalizations we have to be sure that we have reliable facts. The induction must be complete, without interruption, from premise to conclusion. This is what we can call the logic of homeopathy and what we mean when we say that homeopathy is based on the inductive philosophy. Not only are the conclusions of homeopathy consistent with its premises, but its premises are founded on truth; homeopathy as a method is drawn logically, according to the strictest rules of inductive generalization, from data which have been derived from direct observation of facts and pure experimentation. Every one of its processes, from the conduct of the proving to a curative prescription, is directed by the principles of inductive as well as deductive logic. Hahnemann started the revolutionary process of the new and modern art of healing. This art of healing he calls real, true and certain. This means that now and in the future the art of healing can be called true and real only if it is certain, it means if it is able to cure with certainty. This can be considered scientific healing art. 1807 in Hufeland´s Journal, Hahnemann defined the term “homeopathic”, and

complained that the”truth” of curative healing was not yet “scientifically recognized” and called his doctrine “the most rational and perfect way of healing”. Up to this publication Hahnemann used the term “rational” only casually. From this time, when Hahnemann entered a phase of defending his doctrine as an entity, the term “rational” -as well as “truth” – became increasingly more important to him. (S. Hahnemann, Heilkunde der Erfahrung, GKS, 2001, pp 461, 471-472) S. Hahnemann also writes in the “Heilkunde der Erfahrung”( GKS, pp 398401 ): “…that remedies act according to certain unchangeable laws when they alterate the healthy human body,…that they are able to produce certain reliable symptoms of disease…..and it is a truth obtained by pure experience, that there exists no remedy which, applied in treatment of the patient, is weaker than the disease to which it is similar….” The publication “Therapeutics of Experience” (Heilkunde der Erfahrung), published 1805, was the forerunner of the Organon. It means the homeopathic principles have been defined and published a long time clearly before the 1. Edition of the Organon. Lets have a look at the advantages those physicians have who consciously and correctly use the methods of inductive logic in their daily work. The Inductive Method in science is the application of the principles of inductive logic to scientific research. This method was originated by Lord Bacon, and has been published in his publication Novum Organum. It was further developed by John Stuart Will in his System of Logic and has been the fundament of every modern science. „The Inductive Method in Logic is the scientific method that proceeds by induction. It requires (1) exact observation; (2) correct interpretation of the observed facts with a view to understanding them in relation to each other and to their causes; (3) rational explanation of the facts by referring them to their real cause or law; and (4) scientific construction by putting the facts in such coordination that the system reached shall agree with the reality.“ (F. and W. Standard Dictionary, Edition 1894) Hahnemann followed Bacon and condemned any speculation. He demanded the direct observation of nature in the search

for truth. He restored logic to its true place as the guide to truth. Bacon says, „that the ideal way of investigating and discovering truth is to construct its axioms from the senses and particulars, by ascending continually and gradually, till it finally arrives at the most general axioms, which is the true but unattempted way.“ (F.Bacon, Nov. Org. Axiom 19) Induction and deduction are simply opposite ways of arriving at the same conclusions, this means two ways of using the same general process called inference. All reasoning is inference and at the end all reasoning is deductive. By inductive reasoning we ascertain what is true of many different things. Our senses tell us what happens around us and by proper reasoning we may discover the laws of nature, in consequence of which they happen. In deductive reasoning we do the opposite and infer what will happen in consequence of the laws. Reasoning a priori and a posteriori are arguments differing in the character of one of the premises. In one we reason from antecedents, in the other from consequences. „Reasoning by analogy proceeds in the same way; the difference is only in the character of the first premise, which is, that similar causes are likely to produce similar effects, or that things that agree in certain attributes or relations are likely to agree in certain other attributes or relations“….and …“The process of reasoning, when completed, is found to be simply this: Something is predicated, that is, affirmed or denied of a class; an individual is affirmed to belong to this class, and then, of course the same thing can be affirmed or denied of that individual.“ (S. Close, The Genius of Homeopathy, p 251) The analysis of the Organon of Hahnemann, as well as of the history of homeopathy and the life of its founder, shows clearly that homeopathy is a product of inductive logic applied to the subject of medicine. It is a perfect example of the application of the inductive method to the solution of one of the greatest problems of humanity, which is the treatment and cure of diseases. We should use now the chance to have a look on how Hahnemann was able to found a rational way of curing diseases. Unhappy with contradictory theories and speculations in the medicine of his time, Hahnemann provided medicine with the status of a safe science. For that purpose he had to remove several essential obstacles. First of all he demanded a clear and safe knowledge about the prescribed THE LIGA NEWS • November 2014 • www.lmhi.org

remedies and their ingredients, to exclude falsifications, to reject mixtures of remedies and demanded at the same time the collaboration of the patients. He intended to classify the diseases of his patients not according to speculative classifications, but to observe exactly and describe the pathological conditions of the patients with the intention to make clear distinctions. A rational and responsible therapy should not refer to accidental findings, speculations or superstitions. The arising scientific approach of his time helped Hahnemann to develop his project. According to Hahnemann chemistry was able to analyze exactly the ingredients of remedies, to uncover falsifications, to improve the dosages of the prescribed medicines and to guarantee certain standardizations. On the other hand health problems caused by gallbladder stones or bladder stones, by swallowed acids, bone fractures etc. could be resolved mechanically or chemically. Due to the fact that most of the internal diseases could not be explained mechanically or chemically (in Hahnemanns time) the scientific approach came to its limits in these types of dieseases. To extend his studies Hahnemann included the following observations. When treating Syphilis with Mercurius (1789) he realized, that the dosage he used of this remedy was much less important than causing a fever reaction which helped the organism to overcome the disease. The same way effects of medicines could be understood as reactions of the organism to an external stimulous. Together with the recognition of the possibility of spontaneous curing of diseases he draw the following conclusions: the organism reacts as a unity and totality to external stimuli, in a teleological way, that means in the direction of a restoration of his health in the sense of curation. This way the door to the principle Similia Similibus has been opened. Now it was possible to explore the action of remedies by administering them to healthy persons (drug provings on healthy people), due to the fact that remedy actions have been understood from now on not only as chemical processes, but as holistic reactions of the whole organism. Hahnemann tries to explain theoretically his doctrine in terms of contemporary concepts. He used a stimulus theory to explain the principle of similar. Pathogenic and medicinal stimuli (potencies) provoke diseases. If they are dissimilar, they suspend each other or one disease suppresses the other; if they are similar, they cause such

similar reactions in the organism that they extinguish each other. The curing effect of natural diseases (pathogenic stimuli) could be imitated with artificial diseases (medicinal stimuli). A medical stimulus causing a similar reaction of the organism as it happens in a given disease, should be able to extinguish this last one. Hahnemann was able to observe such reactions in his own provings with Chinchona Bark. (1790) The development of the homeopathic method was founded in the methodical completion of the drug provings on healthy humans, the case taking, the assessment of the patients symptoms and the step by step reduction of the dosage. Its basic principle, the law of similars, was conceived by Hahnemann to be the general law of medical action. With this conception as a starting point Hahnemann began to investigate. He reasoned that if there was any truth in the proposition that diseases are cured by medicines that have the power to cause a similar affection, the only way to determine it scientifically would be to give a medicine to a healthy person and observe the effects, since a healthy person would be the only kind of a person in whom an affection similar to disease could be excited. S. Hahnemann 1805: “…that remedies act according to certain unchangeable laws when they alterate the healthy human body,…that they are able to produce certain reliable symptoms of disease…..and it is a truth obtained by pure experience, that there exist no remedy which, applied in treatment of the patient, is weaker than the disease to which it is similar….” (S. Hahnemann, Heilkunde der Erfahrung, GKS, pp 396-400 ) Only through many years of therapeutical experience Hahnemann was able to discover the naturally existing relation underlying his way of curing diseases, defining it finally as a „law of curing“ or „natural law“. (S.Hahnemann,Organon, 1. Edit. 1810, pp vii, xxxi, xviii,21, § 19 ) Hahnemanns ambition was (scientifically) and “rationally curing“ ...“according to fixed reasons”.( S. Hahnemann, Organon, 1. Edit.1810, p v) His doctrine was claimed to rest upon “the homeopathic law of cure”, “the homeopathic law of nature”, “the law of homeopathy without exceptions”, “special laws of rational therapeutics”. (S. Hahnemann,Organon, 1.Edit. 1810,pp vii,xxi,xviii,21, § 19, § 199, § 200) This would provide a scientific fundament,

and indeed the only possible fundament, for a comparison between the symptoms of drugs and the symptoms of disease. According to Hahnemann „rational therapeutics“ or „rational medicine“ is based on general logical laws and offers a precise system of concepts. „Rational Medicine avoids empty assumptions and arbitrary suppositions, never is applied without good reasons and adheres to the visible of the diseases whenever possible….“ (S. Hahnemann, 1. Edit., Organon 1810, § 47) Simplicity, objectivity and matter-of-factness in all reasoning are fundaments of „rational therapeutics“. Further, Hahnemann argues in the § 31, of the Organon, 1.Edit. : “is the big homeopathic law of curing, … based on the law of the human nature drawn on many careful trials and pure experience… that a disease can be eradicated and cured only by a similar disease”. Rationality in medicine is also essential when physicians are confused about which therapeutical system out of the great variety they are confronted with, they should use when treating a certain patient. Rationally curing considers always the totality of the symptoms. “All true medical treatment of…local symptoms,...must…therefore be directed against the whole, must effect the annihilation and cure of the general malady by means of internal remedies…”(S. Hahnemann, Organon 6.Edit., § 190). Certainty is another important fundament of “rationally curing”.Generally Hahnemann argues,we should be convinced „a priori“ of the fact that a strong substance has to be the right and safe remedy in certain, particular and individual cases of disease. That way we can be certain in advance to treat our patients successfully. In conclusion, „rational medicine“ is fundamented on the following laws of cure: a correct preparation of the homeopathic remedies, drug provings on healthy humans including the comparability of the results, the law of similars, the phenomenological approach („ the symptoms are the disease itself“ (S. Hahnemann, GKS, 2001 p 392), the totality of the symptoms, the consideration of mind and mental symptoms of the patient, single remedies prescribed with the adequate dosage and potency. Experimenting with „good cinchona bark“ on himself and finding his theory confirmed by repeated experiments, he began to search medical literature for records of poisonings and accidental cures. Collecting these as a basis for further experiment and corroboration, he continued his experiments with the help of a view students and colleagues carefully recording all the THE LIGA NEWS • November 2014 • www.lmhi.org

observed phenomena and verifying them in his patients. This means, that in the beginning there was „experience“: “Through experience it is possible to confirm c ertain c onsiderations and hypothesis….. experience confirms, encourages, teaches, convinces….; based on experience,… proved by experience,… finding by experience; physicians should accept nature and experience as “signposts”…. (S. Hahnemann, Heilkunde der Erfahrung, GKS, pp 387-395 ) „After several years of this work he had a collection of reliable proving symptoms so large and comprehensive that he felt he could complete the induction and independently and authoritatively formulate the general principle which he had so long been working to establish. „(S. Close, The Genius of Homeopath, p 253) This is Hahnemann‘s main contribution to science. He was the first to make a comprehensive induction of medical facts, deduce therefrom the general law of therapeutic medication and establish healing by medication on a firm fundament. It is visible that Hahnemann‘s primary conception as a critical and well observing scientist was a kind of intuition, which was subsequently developed by logical reasoning and confirmed by a series of elaborate experiments extending over a period of many years, before it was published to the world. Understanding the relation of these facts with the practice of homeopathy we realize that the homeopathic physician will be able to solve every concrete case even his most difficult and important cases on the fundament of the logical process by which homeopathy was worked out. The principles are the same with each case. The examination of a patient or a prover; the analysis of the symptoms from the case takings, the classification of the symptoms and the selection of the remedy etc., are all properly conducted under the rules and by the method of applied logic. Applied in the examination of a patient, the principles of inductive logic lead the examiner first to gather all the facts of a case and to complete each symptom by careful inquiry into its origin, its exciting causes, its history and duration. Further its relations to other symptoms, its modalities or modifying circumstances and conditions. („complete symptom“) Logic reasoning then, by the processes of analysis, synthesis, comparison and generalization makes it possible to determine

the relative value, and importance, from the prescriber‘s standpoint, of every symptom. This way we will be able to discover the „characteristic symptoms, which are of such importance in the study of the case. Characteristic symptoms are general symptoms, or generalizations, inferred or deduced from particular symptoms by the logical process of generalizing. By generalizing we understand what is true of many different things, e.g. in which they agree or what they have in common. Considering the symptoms of Bryonia, for example, we find that they agree in all being worse by movement or better by resting. Aggravation in movement therefore is a characteristic, or a general of Bryonia. These terms are used to describe or epitomize those peculiar features which characterize the patient as an individual. Facts that are true of the case as a whole or of a number of the particular symptoms of the case, considered as a group. In other words characteristics are the individualizing factors of a case or remedy. They are the points which enable us to differentiate between similar cases and remedies. After deducing the general features of a given case or remedy and logically grouping them, defining its individuality, we are in a position to compare it with other similar, related remedies or cases for classification, selection of the curative remedy, or any other purpose. The inductive method brings also into view the pathological unity of the symptoms of which diseases consist, enabling us to identify and name the various forms they take. Speaking generally, the internal, invisible, abnormal state of the organism which we call disease, is made manifest externally by perceptible symptoms. In order to recognize these pathological forms, we resort to the processes of inductive logic: observation and collection of particular facts or phenomena. Considering all those, we arrive at a conception of the nature and individual character of certain diseases by the process of generalization. Hahnemann introduced his phenomenological approach toward the many individual diseases: since the inner essence of any disease reveals itself through signs and symptoms, they are ” the disease itself.” (S. Hahnemann, GKS, p 392) Logic facilitates the next step in the case analysis which is the comprehension of the totality of the symptoms of the case as a whole. From all the parts, logic constructs the whole. It reveals the case. In other words, by generalizing we assign each detail

to its proper place and give concrete form to the case. The true „totality“ is more than just the numerical totality or whole number of the symptoms. It may even exclude some of the particular symptoms if they cannot, at a certain time, be logically related to the case. The „totality“ is that concrete form which the symptoms take when they are logically related to each other recognizable by anyone who is familiar with the signs and symptoms of homeopathic remedies and diseases in general. The fundament of a homeopathic prescription is the totality of the symptoms of the patient, as viewed and interpreted from the standpoint of the prescriber and it is out of question that a prescription can only be made on those symptoms which have their counterpart or similar in the materia medica. Once the homeopathic physician has completed gathering the totality of the symptoms, the selection of the remedy will be conducted by the logical principle of individualization and covers three areas of equal importance: 1. The examination of the patient. All symptoms and details of the case have to be discovered and each symptom should be described as a „complete“ symptom with the three elements of locality, sensations, and modalities. 2. The study or analyis of the case. Here we try to define those symptoms which represent all that which is curable by medication, under the law of similars. This means also that we determine in each particular case, what symptoms have a counterpart in the materia medica. 3. The examination of the materia medica and repertories to discover that remedy which, in its symptomatology, is most similar to the symptoms of the individual patient, at a certain time. Often teachers in homeopathy omit to mention the principles on which their process of individualization is based. They report cases illustrating their own personal method of selecting the curative remedy and not very often they show the process of reasoning which guided their mind in the process of individualization. They work by „intuition“ or have formulated certain rules, which are not helpful in the sense of a general application. They sometimes forget to mention that in principle they follow the logical processes of prescribing as designed by Hahnemann, Boenninghausen etc. Analysis, comparison, classification, and generalization are the logical processes, by means of which the homeopathic artist THE LIGA NEWS • November 2014 • www.lmhi.org

accomplishes his purpose, which is the individualization of his case and the selection of the similar remedy. Of these processes, generalization, being the synthesis of the results of the preceding work, is perhaps the most important. The greater includes the less. Generals are more important than particulars in constructing a case. The general symptoms, which include and are derived from the particulars, constitute the only reliable fundament of a curative prescription. This step is one of the most important ones performed by the homeopathic physician in selecting the curative medicine. Mills in his Treatise on Logic, says: „A generalization is the process of obtaining a general conception, rule or law, from a consideration of particular facts or phenomena. Details enter into minor generalizations, and minor generalizations into major, until one all-inclusive concept or principle is seen and stated.“ „Such is Similia Similibus Curentur, one of the most far-reaching generalizations ever made by the mind of man. (J. Mill, A System of Logic, Longman, 1884 ) The value of a generalization depends primarily upon the data from which it is drawn. We have seen that these must be accurate and complete. Nearly all mental symptoms are generals because mental states can only be expressed in general terms. Psychologically an emotion or a passion such as anger, grief or jealousy, is a complex state of consciousness in which increased sensibilities and several organic sensations might be mixed up. The process by which we become aware of the resulting concrete emotion and give it a name, is essentially a generalization, subconsciously performed. For this reason mental symptoms, when they appear in the case taking are always of the highest rank for the final generalization and completion of the totality on which the prescription is based. The most intimate and interior characteristic features, all those feelings and emotions that lie nearest to the heart of any indiviual, are among the generals. Statements or observations that reflect the state of mind of the patient, his moods, his passions, his fears, his desires and aversions, are all generals because they express the individual himself and not merely some part or organ. Symptoms which reflect subconscious or involuntary actions of the mind, such as the way of sleeping, peculiar or unusual positions assumed during sleep or disease, character of dreams etc. are generals. Modalities or conditions of aggravation and

amelioration applying to the case as a whole are important generals. Particular symptoms, or those which express the suffering of a certain part, organ, or function of the body are used in two ways. They are the data from which the general symptoms are drawn and they are sometimes the differentiating factors between two or more remedies arrived at by exclusion in the comparison of general symptoms. Nothing in particulars should contradict or contra-indicate important general symptoms. Aggravation from heat will exclude Hepar sulfuris from any case. Absence of characterictic or familiar signs or symptoms of a disease may be a general symptom of a case. Fever without thirst, coldness with aversion to be covered, hunger without appetite, exanthematous diseases without appearance of the eruption, are examples of these negative general symptoms. Correct generalizing is the most essential presupposition for a successful work of a homeopathic physician. The symptoms of a proving or of a patient, must be graded and grouped and analyzed until the individuality of the remedy or the case appears distinct and clear before the mind. The study of materia medica and the study of a case are conducted in a similar way, because they are counterparts. The materia medica is a kind of „fac simile“ of the pathology of humanity in all its phases and features. The drug provings should be studied in a way that our mind and memory gets the idea of a complete image or concept of the individuality of the drug as a whole. This will facilitate to recognize them when confronted with a certain pathology. Memorizing of single symptoms, or peculiars symptoms in a drug proving has its place and value without any doubt, but it is secondary in the process of understanding of the main features of a homeopathic remedy. „When a collection of data is submitted to the logically trained mind for comprehension, it immediately begins to compare phenomena according to some comprehensive plan, in order that it may discover general characteristics, if possible, which may again be grouped in such a manner as to develop form and individuality in the whole.“ (S. Close, The Genius of Homeopathy, p 262) This is what we call generalizing, the method employed in the construction of the materia medica from the provings. In this way „characteristic symptoms“ are discovered. Characteristic symptoms or Genius symptoms according to Boenninghausen, are so essential for the remedy, that without

12

them the remedy itself would not exist. Boenninghausen clarifies that „The GENIUS (the characteristic symptoms) of a remedy has to correspond in every case to the GENIUS (characteristic symptoms) of the whole disease“ (C. v. Boenninghausen, Aphorismen des Hippokrates, S. 407) and insists further „Without a sufficient knowledge of the characteristic symptoms and the peculiarities of the remedies, which can be found in the symptoms of each remedy, all attempts to individualize a case will loose their value.“ (C.v. Boenninghausen, „Körperseiten und Verwandschaften“ in Boenninghausens Eigntümlichkeiten und Hauptwirkungen der homöopathischen Arzneien, p 8) The GENIUS symptoms, are defined as symptoms which are found in the original provings of the Materia Medica. They show up REPEATEDLY in DIFFERENT areas of the organism, are described in a very CLEAR and DISTINCT way and have been FREQUENTLY CLINICALLY VERIFIED. GENIUS symptoms only can be found in the areas of the sensations, modalities and concomitants. What is characteristic of a drug is rarely shown in a single symptom. Therefore the statement that a Pulsatilla case is aggravated „in a close or warm room“ is a generalization drawn from the observation of particular symptoms in numerous cases, both in provings and clinically. The same is true of nearly every condition of aggravation and amelioration contained in Boenninghausen‘s Repertory. Experience has shown that most of the modalities of Boenninghausen are general in their relations. The attempt to limit the application of the modality to the particular symptoms with which they were first observed does not always lead to success in prescribing. Boenninghausen

followed strictly the inductive method. Of these modalities he wrote: „All of these indications are so trustworthy, and have been verified by such manifold experiences, that hardly any others can equal them in rank - to say nothing of surpassing them. But the most valuable fact respecting them is this: That this characteristic is not confined to one or another symptom, but like a red thread it runs through all the morbid symptoms of a given remedy, which are associated with any kind of pain whatever, or even with a sensation of discomfort, and hence it is available for both internal and external symptoms of the most varied character.“ ( C.v. Boenninghausen, KMS, p.761 ) In other words, they are general, characteristics deduced by a critical study of particulars and verified in practice. In using repertories, notably Boenninghausens Therapeutic Pocket Book, we constantly generalize. We bring together and correlate the partial, disconnected statements of the patient into complete and rounded wholes which may, perhaps, be characterized by a single word corresponding to a rubric in the repertory. Let us take, for example, the symptom “maliciousness,” classified by Boenninghausen under the general heading “mind.” At a first thought that would seem to be a particular symptom, but a little reflection will show it to be a generalization, drawn from a number of observations of symptoms or behavioural problems like insidious, malevolent, gloating, disgraceful, shameless, meanness, vexatious, nasty, talking bad about others, causing damage to others, to be unfaithful to others etc. All these single aspects observed in the conduct or behaviour of the patient allow the generalization „maliciousness“. All those symptoms which characterize

the patient in his totality are the most interesting for selecting the adequate homeopathic remedy. Rarely will a patient state, or even admit on being directly questioned, that he is malicious. If it is true, it will be deduced by the carefully observing physician from a number of facts, understood directly by the inductive process. Reviewing and summarizing we find that the inductive method in science is cumulative and evolutionary. It eliminates every element of speculation and deals only with established facts. It takes nothing for granted when data are concerned. It ignores no fact, no matter how trifling it may seem. It confines its operations strictly within the limits of the subject directly in hand. Its deductions are always direct, never indirect. It never makes an inference or deduction from a process of reasoning, or from theoretical grounds, but always from carefully observed facts. A generalization made according to the principles of Inductive Logic stands in direct and logical relation with the data from which it is drawn and includes them in their essential features. With that in mind the homeopathic teachers should guide their students through the homeopathic training. Before any “spezialization” in homeopathy takes place or “new approaches” are offered to the students, the fundaments have to be internalized. Following the general logical principles of reasoning and the logical development of homeopathy by Hahnemann we will provide our students not only with a maximum of security in their prescribing, but also with good criteria to judge any other approach in homeopathy.

Presentation of some oncological cases cured in the Clinica Santa Croce (Orselina, Switzerland) During the last 16 years 10 medical doctors cured hundreds of patients affected by cancers in our clinic. Mostly of the patients are staying in the clinic during 2-3 weeks and get every day the remedy in Q(LM) Potency. Daily the doctor and the supervisor study the reaction of the patient to the given remedy and decide if it is correct or not. During this time we establish a plane of cure and the patient is cured at home. The contact is maintained by phone, e-mail, skype. The following cases demonstrate how we are working in our Clinic.

Q-Potencies The last 16 years we have found out that these potencies are the best in the following cases: - During the chemotherapy and the radiation (we give the remedy daily together with the chemo- and radiotherapy) - In very advanced cases - To test quickly if the remedy is correct or not Great advantages We can give the remedy every day without homeopathic aggravation and so diminish the side effects of the chemo- and radiotherapy

To cure the side effects of radiation we needed in this case Radium bromatum, and for the side effects of chemotherapy Nux vomica. In every case we always try to work according to the law of similar and look for all the symptoms in the repertory

Case Nr. 4 (Dr. Spinedi) Inoperable cancer of liver in a boy of 1 year During the 9th month there is a stop in the development of the child. It was diagnosed a great cancer of the liver, only 2 mm of normal liver tissue. Therapy and follow up Start of the cure with Lycopodium Q3 (totality of the symptoms). But the symptoms of the child, pain and vomiting didn‘t ameliorate. Start of a chemotherapy together with Phosphorus Q3 - Q24 from18.02.2003 until 30.03.2004.The tumor became smaller and could be operated. The very high transaminases (over 1000) became better with the only administration of Phosphorus. At the 24.02.2004 the symptoms of Lycopodium appeared, especially mentally (he is very disobedient, obstinate and dictatorial), therefore we give Lycopodium Q3 - Q20 at 06.12.2004. Because all the laboratory findings are better and there is no more cancer we started with Lycopodium M, M, XM, XM, CM, CM etc. at long intervals up to the present time. The young men is very well. Time of observation: 10 years Repertorisation We can see, that the totality of the symptoms point from the beginning to the two remedies Lycopodium and Phosphorus.

The symptoms of Sepia:

Observation We always see the great effect of Phosphorus during the chemotherapy and long after. But in this case too, we need the constitutional remedy to finish the case. The constitutional remedy Lycopodium could not help in the beginning, but Phosphorus and

the chemotherapy together helped quickly. The mother dreamt during the pregnancy that her child would die during his first year of life. During the pregnancy she had three episodes with very great anger supressed. Case Nr. 5 (Dr. Spinedi) Cancer of mammae with metastasis in the spine and fracture of the spine A 34years old lady consulted me in the year 1983 because of strong pain of an embolism of lung which ameliorated quickly under Sepia Q3. Then she was well many years and needed no remedies. In 2000, this is 11 years later, she consulted me with the diagnosis of cancer of (3,5x2 cm) in the right breast. Therapy and follow up After a long case taking I started with Phosphorus Q3-Q9, she developed strong pain in the spine and she went to hospital. Diagnosis: multiple metastasis in the spine of a mamma cancer right. Phosphorus was not the correct remedy. Now the young lady got chemo- and radiotherapy and because of the side effects I gave Phosphorus Q10-Q27 and this time we have a wonderful effect of Phosphorus, no pain and no side effects of chemo- and radiotherapy. The tumor in the breast get smaller and the pain in the spine are much less. Now the symptoms of Conium developed, was prescribed as Conium Q3-Q9. All the symptoms of the young women disappeared and now the symptoms of Sepia appeared again. Sepia was given in the beginning as Q and afterwards according to the scale of Kent: M, M, XM, XM, CM, CM. Sepia and Conium had to be alternated up to the present time always according to the symptoms: when I get symptoms of Sepia I give Sepia, when of Conium this remedy. The patient is very well and without troubles to the present day and the doctors of the clinic are surprised about the good follow up. Follow up: 14 years 2001 January-July Phos Q3- Q26 July until

Epicrisis • I only prescribed when the symptoms returned, my prescription was always based upon the law of similar • 2. During these 13 years the young lady always performed her job as a mother of two children and was very seldom sick. The appearing symptoms always disappeared after the prescription of the given remedy. • The frequent prescription of Sepia may be due to the parallel medicament Tamoxifen (Sepia is known to be a good antidote for the sideeffects of Tamoxifen. Observations In this case we could see again, that the remedy Phosphorus, that didn’t help when prescribed alone could help very well together with the chemo- and radiotherapy. This is the evidence of the specific effect of Phosphorus during the chemo- and radiotherapy. During the cure we fortunately got the symptoms of Conium which was the correct remedy for the cancer of the breast. The patient told to me later that after the birth she got a bandage around her breast to supress the milk. This was very painful, but the nurse said that it was necessary. We can understand that this old „injury“ of the breast was the beginning of the Carcinogenesis . After treating the energy of Conium in the body, the old constitutional remedy Sepia is coming out, so we can perform a perfect antimiasmatic cure. But I want to repeat that I had to give Conium again and again up to the present time when the symptoms of this remedy appeared.. We have to give the indicated remedy for a long time until the energy of this remedy is no more in the body. LMHI Scientific Framework 2013 under revision

The 2013 version of LMHI document on “Scientific Framework of Homeopathy” has already become a reliable referral document for Homeopathy. A downloadable copy of this document is available on the LMHI website (http://www. lmhi.org/dokumente/upload/48b2f_ Scientific_Framework_Homeopathy_2013.pdf). The book, originally written by Dr. Michael Wassenhoven, aptly serves the purpose of updating its Dr Raj K Manchanda readers about the status of homeopathy and reports the high quality homeopathic researches either presented in LMHI congresses or published in journals. The task of constant updating this book is one of the key research initiatives of LMHI. The revised document will soon be made available on the official LMHI website. The idea behind updating the current form of ‘Scientific Framework of Homeopathy’ was to make it more up to date and argument-based. The chapters have been modified in order to make them more accommodating of the latest research information as well as to address the issues raised by the critics within the subject. Several research papers, related to the subjects covered in the document, were referred for writing the book. An attempt has been made to express both arguments and counterarguments concerning various issues. The revised document aims to provide its readers with an overview related to homeopathy and its varied aspects, ranging from its educational and legal framework to recent advances in terms of scientific establishment of homeopathy. The proposed features of the book are inclusive of portrayal of current place of homeopathy in healthcare, with references from recent surveys, synoptic view of the users of homeopathy worldwide, educational framework laying out the status of the education of T&CM, the ethical and safety issues of homeopathic medicines and basic research, with some literal mulling over the physicochemical and pharmacodynamic mysteries behind Homeopathy. The latest in the fields of clinical research, homeopathic pathogenetic trials and clinical verification is also included. The role of homeopathy in veterinary and agricultural streams is also discussed in the related chapters. The chapter on homeopathy in epidemics is also being updated. An inventory of homeopathic researches is presented under respective chapters in the book, mostly highlighting their aims, findings and conclusions. Since the task of updating the book is still continuing, the readers are welcome to report about the quality work published in homeopathy that might have escaped our notice, largely due to its publication in non-peer reviewed journals or in a language other than English. The editors of the book are hopeful that a careful perusal of this book would not only provide an overview about the status of homeopathy, but also orient the readers towards future action points required at varied ends in order to further elevate the level of homeopathy as a scientific system. Legally homeopathy is mentioned as a type of complementary medicine(1995) and physicians who study at least for two years in high credit centers will be supported and recognized as qualified homeopaths Since 12 years ago (2001) which IHA ( Iranian homeopathy association) was founded by a group of homeopaths ( Dr.Mazaherinezhad Dr.Mofagh and Dr.Youssefizade) IHA has

Iran an ancient country, rich in natural resources and known for its culture, art and architecture has a very long history in medicine Our Traditional medicine is used daily by ordinary people and Iranian people are familiar with herbal medicine. In this article, I would like to introduce the development of homeopathy in Iran. We know that homeopathy started to be practiced in Iran in the year 1920It was believed some other physicians had started before, but we do not have valid documents The new wave of homeopathy was developed by Dr.Nasseri holding a PHD in physics. He introduced it to the Iranian students for the

Now in many large cities, people know homeopathy as it has great reputation Today, IHA has more than 700 members including physicians, dentists and other educated people in medical field or other fields who have passed a comprehensive exam successfully (this exam is called RIHA). members, too( DR Shahabi and Dr Sadeghi have presented their articles during LMHI congress) IHA has always been trying to encourage all homeopaths to join IHA; the only homeopathy association in Iran IN IHA, we try our best to hold our seminars regularly (monthly or bimonthly in big cities) which are free to attend and usually are very popular and insightful. IHA also publishes

newsletter monthly or bimonthly Some members of IHA are also very active to collaborate with retraining centers in many citiesRetraining is mandatory for all medical staff and during the course, they will be exposed to homeopathy sometimes for the first time. in Tehran by some homeopaths outside IHA We also consider negotiation with Iranian Medical Council as a major policy of IHA and essential to resolve some problems like import of homeopathy remedy. We want them to recognize homeopathy among Iranian phamacope together with recognizing courses and RIHA exam to evaluate homeopaths. Finally, Homeopathy has proved itself as a complementary medicine which can cure diseases This is possible only because of skillful homeopaths who are there to serve patients honestly and truly It’s only the love of homeopathy for many and nothing else.
