SUPPORT THE SEED LENDING LIBRARY The Huntington Woods Seed Lending Library is a volunteer organization supported by the Friends of the Huntington Woods Library and the Huntington Woods BART Board. All of our seeds and information are offered free of charge to our community. What’s a Seed Lending Library? Come to the Huntington Woods Public Library and “borrow” seeds for free! The basic is idea is that you plant the seeds, let some go to seed, and then return some of these next generation seeds for others to borrow in the following year(s). We encourage home gardeners to save seeds from the “super easy” plants such as tomatoes, lettuce, beans, peas and peppers. Don’t worry, we don’t have fines if you don’t return seeds. TEXT NOTIFICATIONS Library patrons can now receive hold pickup notifications via text message. Log into My Account in the right hand corner of our website. Choose Text Message Notification; enter your library card and PIN. Click Add Phone; follow the prompts, and Save Changes. Only hold notifications are available via texts. 1000 BOOKS BEFORE KINDERGARTEN The mission behind the 1000 Books Before Kindergarten program is to promote reading to newborns, infants, and toddlers and to encourage parent and child bonding through reading. The concept is simple, the rewards are priceless. Read a book (any book) to your newborn, infant, and/or toddler. The goal is to have read 1,000 books (yes, you can repeat books) before your precious one starts kindergarten. Does it sound hard? Not really if you think about it. If you read just 1 book each night, you will have read about 365 books in a year. That is 730 books in two years and 1,095 books in three years. If you consider that most children start kindergarten at around 5 years of age, you have more time than you think. Stop by the Youth Services desk to pick up your log and begin reading today! Visit 1000BooksBeforeKindergarten.org for more information.

Read it and Reap!
