find competent contact persons to guide and advise you at our premises at Hollestraße 3 (Gildehof-Center). Many questions concerning your new life here in Essen can be answered on the spot. The Welcome- and ServiceCenter is linked to numerous cooperation partners and can point you in the right direction for help with other matters. This saves you time and allows you to get your bearings quickly. The Welcome- and ServiceCenter is part of the city’s culture of providing a warm welcome to new citizens. Essen benefits from diversity thanks to its strong immigrant tradition that goes back some 150 years. Since the 19th Century, the city has been drawing in workers from other countries such as Poland, Greece, Italy and Turkey. The immigrants started off as colleagues and over time became neighbours and friends. Our underlying belief that diversity is not a threat but rather an enrichment is, in a sense, part of the DNA of the city.
