It will soon be second nature, but for now, converting watts to lumens isn’t that well known. When choosing new LED’s there are a couple of tricks of the trade that we’re happy to share, so that a simple replacement order is exactly that ... simple! Here’s what to look for....

Fluorescent tubes

Brightness - how much light? Lumens is the new lingo, and you’re aiming for total light output. The scientific conversion method is ΦV(lm) = P(W) × η(lm/W). You’re way too busy for that, so here’s the non-scientific method for our most requested products.

LED Conversion Tips

Lamp efficiency

LED Colour Temperature

Look for lumens per watt (lm/W). The higher the number specified on the LED, the more efficient the product. All of our SOTA products offer 110-120 lm/W or greater.

Light temperature (colour) is measured in Kelvin (K). The lower the number, the warmer the light. Eco Lighting Supplies can help you choose the best solution for each space.

Beam

Cool daylight white light = 5000k Great for all commercial projects where the brilliancy and clarity is a must. Suitable for walkways, near parking ticket machines, building floodlights and other areas where your project calls for the highest specifications.

LED’s have different angles from which light emits. Choose narrow beams for spot lighting and special effects. Choose wide beams for a greater spread of light. Eco Lighting Supplies’ SOTA High Bay range offers beam angles of 60, 90 and 120 degrees in most cases, giving you wide choice.

Hole Cut Out Size Our SOTA Switchable Downlight range has a standard cut out of 90mm which suits most traditional downlights. If it doesn’t suit, Eco Lighting Supplies will build it for you – up to 245mm cut out.

Neutral white light = 4000k Suitable for all working environs such as offices, foyers, cupboards, office kitchens, bathrooms where you need intensity and clarity. Also recommended for carparks, recreation centres, bollard lighting. Warm white light = 3000k Suitable for spaces requiring warmth and ambiance.
