What is Candela, lumen and Lux? ... a very simple explanation! Have you ever wondered what candelas, lumens and lux REALLY are? Well, you can research it. You can Google it. And read article after article, getting more and more confused in the process. The following explanation aims to summarise and simplify the magic of lighting terms for those light measuring tools.
One candela = the light intensity from a candle (more or less).
Warm-White
One lumen = the amount of light produced by a 1 candela source radiating out through 1 steradian (one steradian is about 1/12.57 of a sphere) - in this case 1 m² of this sphere.
One lux = the illumination produced when there is one lumen falling on one square metre.
Cool/Daylight-White
Light produced from LED lamps by a diode (Light Emitting Diode). Here we explain the main terms which are associated with LED lamps & lights: Did you know: The light intensity of the sun equals about 20,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 candelas!
Example: Let`s say a light source produces 100 lumens and illuminates the spot on the wall at 100 lux. If we narrow the beam so that the illuminated spot on the wall is reduced by 1/10, the number of lumens is still the same, 100 lumens, but now all these 100 lumens are ten times as “concentrated”, making the spot on the wall ten times brighter; 1000 lux.

Kelvin, described as a temperature or K, expresses the overall colour of a light source itself. When you describe a light as being either ‚cool‘ or ‚warm‘ it‘s the colour temperature that you‘re discussing. Lamps range in colour from about 2100K to 10000K. Lower colour temperatures (ex 3000K) represent ‚warmer‘ light, higher (ex 4100K +) represent ‚cooler‘ light.
Ranging between 0 and 360 degrees, it is the direction light is emitted by a particu lar bulb. The common incandescent bulb has a beam angle close to 350 degrees because it sends light in all directions except where it plugs into the light socket.
Warm-white will be used for a cosy atmosphere in living rooms, natural-white and day-light where it comes to bright illumination and the best visibility of the illumnated area - for example in the workplace. Color temperature

LED´s, on the other hand, can be focused or dispersed. As the beam angle increases, the intensity of the light decreases because the light is dispersing over a wider range. On the other hand, as the beam angle decreases, the light becomes more focused, which results in a more tightly-focused, intense beam of light.
Another Example: =Let`s assume this light source illuminates a 1m² spot on the wall - 1 metre away - at 10 Lux.

Then we move the light source 1 metre further away from the wall. Now the spot on the wall is four times as big (inverse-square-law), making it 4m². So instead of concentrating the lumens, as we did before, we are SPREADING THEM OUT, giving a lux value of 10/4 = 2.5 lux!

CRI or RA (Colour Rendering Ability) Colour rendering is the ability of a light source to produce COLOUR in objects. The colour rendering index is ranging between 0-100 and 100 is best in producing vibrant colour in objects. So in essence, light with a colour rendering ability of 80 will produce more vibrant colour in the same object than a light source with a colour rendering ability of 60, etc.
Note: LED bulbs have the property that the luminance (lumens) is depending on the colour-temperature (degrees Kelvin) of the generated light. Warm-white lights with the same power are a little less bright than the day-light version.
