LEARNING IN A CHANGING WORLD IT and Telecoms are rapidly combining to transform all areas of people, business and society. We now stand on the brink of fundamental innovation opportunities across industries, public services and in private life. Over the coming years, as technology advances, informationand communication infrastructure performancewill increase even more rapidly. This will enable new opportunities for people to learn, create, sustain and innovate for positive impact to our world – we are enteringinto the networked society. In this fast-changing business environment, it is essentialfor everyone to continuously develop their competence to achieve superior performance. Changingtechnologies, market and business

conditions,or career ambitions for an individual, requiresa continuous learning process. Ericsson Academy is a strategic learning initiative from Ericsson, designed to inspire people and organizations to exchange ideas, perform better, collaborate and stimulate innovation. The Academy provides a range of training, interactive forums, and learning materials online and on-demand, all tailored to an individual’s need. The purpose is to network and knowledge-share with employees, customers, universities, suppliers, and partners in order to drive the Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) industry into the next decade.

Learning today is on-demand, interactiveand collaborative. Companieswith a strong learning culture know how to leverage on collaboration and creativity, giving them a competitiveadvantage Petter Andersson, Vice President of Learning

OUR PERSPECTIVE ON LEARNING Learn in order to perform, perform in order to learn A successful learning culture is one where the value of learning is recognized as a critical investment and enablerfor business success. It is one where employeesfeel empowered and responsible for driving their own professional development. Leaders in a high impact learning culture work with competence planningand development of their employees and are role models in developing their own competence and learning. It is one which fosters an environment where everyday learning, informal and on-the-job learning as well as knowledge sharing form an integral part of the overall learning culture. The Ericsson Learning Excellence Framework is used to define, assess and support & drive the achievement of excellence using best practice and consistency in the way we manages the competence

of our people, in order to meet the business requirements short and long term. Only with well defined and embraced objectives as well as a baseline, it is possible to engage the organizationin a change. At Ericsson we have improvedour overall engagement index for learning with 33% over the last four years (based on our all employee survey). We also conduct full analysis of the competence needs required to become successful in areas such as LTE (Long Term Evolution) and EPC (Evolved Packed Core), and we are able to track the progress of competence for each job group anywhere in the world” Since the launch of our LTE EPC learning initiative we have improved our competence readiness for different professional groups with between 18 and 64%.

A learning culture entails much more than just taking a training course. In fact, according to studies about 80 percent of all learning activities are informal or nonmeasured forms of learning investments. Examples of these are: on-the-job training, such as job rotation, coaching and stretched assignments, different types of e-learning, collaboration forums like wikis, blogs, discussion forums, and in-person networking as well as many others. At Ericsson we strive for a learning culture in which learning and collaboration is embedded in our work and processes and utilizes a wide range of learning methods and technologies from informal to structured, from planned to on-demand. We are focused on aligninglearning and competence development with the Ericsson business strategy both globally and locally.
