The next morning, the caller is found dead, and the police have no way of identifying her. Shocked and guilt-stricken by the news, Jenny resolves to discover the name of the young girl so that she will not be buried anonymously.
Released after four years in prison following a failed home invasion, Kenneth is reunited with his brother Dave. Die Geträumten
Visionary director Alexander Sokurov’s captivating new film tells the story of two remarkable men during the German occupation: Louvre director Jacques Jaujard and Nazi officer Franz Wolff-Metternich. First enemies, their alliance was the driving force behind the preservation of the museum’s treasures. Exploring the relationship between art and power, Francofonia blurs the lines of fiction, documentary, memoir and video essay.
In a recording studio, two young actors read the dramatic 20-years correspondence between poets Ingeborg Bachmann and Paul Celan. The tumultuous emotions of proximity and distance, fascination and fear captivate them and they start to enjoy each other’s company. Where the lines are blurred lies the heart of the film.

For the past thirty years, Dr. Jean-Pierre Werner has been working as a general practitioner in the countryside, far away from any other medical facility. When he finds out that he suffers from a serious illness, Werner is left with no choice but to find a replacement, although he considers himself irreplaceable…
Victoria (Virginie Efira) is a beautiful Parisian criminal lawyer in her late 30s, sex-addict, workaholic, totally selfcentred and struggling to raise her two daughters. At a friend’s wedding, she reconnects with her ex-husband David, an old friend, Vincent, and Sam, a former client. A comedy à la française critically acclaimed in Cannes.
Dale Turner is a fantastic saxophone player, slowly losing the battle with alcoholism, estranged from his family, and hanging on by a thread in the 1950's New York jazz world. He gets an offer to play in Paris, where he meets a fan who wants to save him. Dale’s poignant relationship with the man and his young daughter re-kindles his spirit and his music as the end draws near.

For its first season of cinema broadcasts, France’s historical theatre stage la Comédie-Française shows Romeo and Juliet. Based on the translation of Victor Hugo’s son, François-Victor Hugo, this take on the play remains as faithful as possible to Shakespeare’s masterpiece, rendering its original darkness and complexity. “There is a black sun in this story, and this is what we ought to look into”, says stage director Eric Ruf. The Juilliard Experiment is about French artist Fabienne Verdier’s residency at the Juilliard School of Music in New York, during which she explored the relationship between painting and music. After 15 years together, Marie and Boris decide to get a divorce. Unable to afford another place, Boris refuses to leave the house, claiming his half although Marie bought it on her own. Cohabitation gets harder every day. Disconcertingly truthful, After Love benefits from the wonderful, accute performances of its two leads.
At once blistering and poetic, the ravages of colonialism cast a dark shadow over the South American landscape in Ciro Guerra’s third feature. Filmed in stunning black-and-white and inspired by the real-life journals of two explorers, Embrace of the Serpent centres on an Amazonian shaman and the two scientists who, over the course of 40 years, build a friendship with him.
A troubled teenager (magnetic newcomer Sasha Lane) joins a group of young adults who sell magazines door to door, commit petty crimes but lead a liberating and free-wheeling life as they cross the USA. Seduced by their charismatic leader (Shia LaBeouf), she gets caught up in a whirlwind of hard partying, law bending and young love. Donkey Skin
The story of a solitary hit man increasingly ensnared in a web of harassment and betrayal, Le Samouraï is the most sombre and poetic of all Melville’s gangster films, and its finale remains one of the most stunning yet enigmatic twists ever committed to celluloid.
We wish to pay tribute to recently departed Pierre Etaix, with this delightfully playful comedy. A married, good-natured suitand-tie man has frequent daydreams about women. He finds himself hopelessly attracted to his gorgeous new secretary, his contemplated pursuit of whom builds to a giant wind-up toy of ludicrously intricate complications.

Marée Basse by Sacékripa
Oui Love presents a night of two up-andcoming acts, both signed to hip French label Cracki. French duo Agar Agar's synth pop combines exquisite melancholy and aggression, while Manchester-based Ménage à Trois head in a sultrier, R&Binfluenced direction.
One of the leading voices in French theatre, Mohamed El Khatib returns to the REP to draw the portrait of Corinne Dadat, a woman who is invisible to most. Blending fiction and documentary, it does not ask for pity, but Corinne Dadat is real.
With his surreal trampoline, Mathurin Bolze makes time stand still and operates his own law of gravity. In this sequel to his previous show Fenêtres, the protagonist has a double: is it his brother, his alter ego, or his shadow? Part of the London International Mime Festival.
Marée basse – the low tide moment of the day, when everything seems to slow down and thoughts might turn to opening a good bottle. In this show, part of the London International Mime Festival, Sacékripa circus company will open many bottles...

We Recommend Philippe Jaroussky and Le Concert de la Loge "There are countertenors, and then there is Mr Jaroussky" (The New York Times). Critically acclaimed Philippe Jaroussky performs Telemann and Bach. He is joined by Julien Chauvin’s recently founded Le Concert de la Loge for its Wigmore Hall debut.

The Garage
Las Aves
One of the most acclaimed plays of recent times, Art premiered in London twenty years ago and went on to become a phenomenon. Director Matthew Warchus reunites the original creative team to revisit Yasmina Reza’s study of friendship, prejudice and tolerance.
Fabienne Verdier’s first solo exhibition in London features large-scale abstract paintings produced over the last year. Verdier uses painting tools of her own invention, which allows her mark making to be a product of the body moving freely.

La Médiathèque
Bigger, Brighter, Better! After 3 years of planning, fundraising, moving, building, and installing, the final phase of La Médiathèque’s makeover is now complete, marking the end of an exciting and ambitious project to create an outstanding learning and research facility. We have transformed our premises into a state-of-the-art library reflecting the growing use of our collections, the increase in collaborative projects, our dedication to public involvement through innovative programmes, and the central role of digital technology. Come and see for yourself, and enjoy the new Médiathèque: bigger, brighter, better!
A New Generation Library Offering over 50.000 resources about France, in French or English, for both adults and teenagers, the new Médiathèque boasts a more spacious layout, modern furniture, more digital access points and working spaces as well as new services: - a French Lab for both language students and teachers provides selected resources to enhance your French learning experience; - a dedicated area for cinema, music and video games features listening, gaming and video booths; - access to the Institut’s archives collections, for researchers and Franco-British history enthusiasts; - a study room for humanities, social sciences, and the arts; - co-working spaces for individual work as well as collective study.
Thank You The Institut français is very grateful to the Friends of the French Institute Trust who supported and believed in the renovation from the beginning. Our gratitude goes to them and the generous donors, whether they are individuals, companies or foundations, for their unfailing support to the renovation project of La Médiathèque. We would like to thank them wholeheartedly. The renovation project – the refurbishment of the Institut’s Art Deco reading room, the opening of Bibliothèque Quentin Blake and the modernisation of La Médiathèque – were successfully achieved thanks to the support and generosity of 14 companies and more than 161 private donors. With their charitable gifts and grants, the Institut français’ Médiathèque can sustain its position as one of the leading French libraries in the UK.
