Launching a New Chapter of Services FISCAL YEAR

2014 ANNUAL REPORT July 1, 2013 – June 30, 2014

I present to you the Annual Report for Fiscal Year Ending June 30, 2014, which contains financial information for the time period of July 1, 2013 through June 30, 2014. Due to staffing changes in our Business Office, the publication has been delayed in comparison to previous years. I appreciate your understanding and patience in this regard. I take this opportunity to thank the donors included in this report for your partnership with Children’s Home of Northern Kentucky. Because of your sacrifices and your confidence, the agency continues to find itself in some of the most exciting moments since its beginning in 1882. The funding investments from private donors and foundations continue to increase year over year, empowering our Board of Trustees, Junior Board, and staff to take bold steps in offering innovative treatment programs for the abused, neglected, and at-risk youth in our care. Additionally, funding from Kentucky Attorney General Jack Conway and the Substance Abuse Treatment Advisory Committee has propelled us light years in addressing the needs of addicted adolescents and family members in Northern Kentucky and beyond.

2014 Communication Sponsor

This sponsor underwrites the cost of both our online and print communication efforts so that our Home can easily and regularly stay in touch with you at no cost to the Home.

Have you moved, switched jobs, or had a change in marital status? Please send an email to [email protected] with your updated information to help us keep accurate records. Please note that donor contact information is not sold or shared with outside organizations unless approved by both the donor and the Home’s Board of Trustees.

2014

201 4 Annua l Report

Because of the tremendous support from you, our bridge building partners, Children’s Home of Northern Kentucky has taken steps in becoming the premier provider of adolescent behavioral healthcare services. We’ve added highly credentialed medical and clinical team members. We’ve invested millions in our buildings and child-caring residential environments. We’ve opened a third campus where an array of school-based behavioral health programs and outpatient care will take place. We’ve prepared the region’s first residential care facility for adolescents in need of substance use disorder treatment. We’ve opened an innovative therapeutic day school serving at-risk youth who need academic services that are joined with treatment programs. In short, we have and we continue to provide opportunity and hope for better lives … just like our mission statement calls us to do. I thank you and urge you to continue to stand with us, providing our beloved Home with a mantle of comfort and protection as we take care of some of Kentucky’s most vulnerable children and families. With gratitude, Rick W. Wurth Chief Executive Officer Children’s Home of Northern Kentucky | 3

CHNK hosts a private reception on the front veranda of its historic administration building for members of the Northern Kentucky Legislative Caucus, to thank them for their support of CHNK’s work and that of other youth-focused social services organizations in the area. It marks the first time that CHNK has had multiple legislators come together on campus to engage in meaningful conversation with the Home’s leadership team.

November 2013

CHNK and Covington Independent Public Schools sign a Memorandum of Understanding to establish a therapeutic day school on CHNK’s Covington campus, with the goal of marrying traditional academic services with behavioral/ mental health treatment for at-risk adolescents.

April 2014

After months of planning, a $5.2 million renovation project begins on the Covington campus, in the Home’s historic administration building. When complete, the building will house a therapeutic day school complete with state-ofthe-art classrooms, a computer lab, and a student learning kitchen, as well as administrative offices, conference rooms that allow for telehealth and telepsychiatry sessions, and a meeting and events center that will establish a new revenue stream for the Home.

June 2014

The Council on Accreditation (COA) approves the re-accreditation of CHNK through 2018. COA’s program of quality improvement is designed to identify providers that have met high performance standards and have made a commitment to their stakeholders to deliver the very best quality services. CHNK’s application is expedited through the process as a result of not receiving any out-ofcompliance ratings in any of COA’s fundamental practice standards.

Donate items from our wish list We keep a running list of needs on our website at www. chnk.org/wish-list. The items might not be as fun to shop for as toys, but receiving them helps us to offset operational expenses … which means more money going directly to our programs and the youth who benefit from them.

While we take great strides to make sure every supporter who gave a gift to our Home between July 1, 2013 and June 30, 2014 is included in this annual report, we realize that a name may have been mistakenly omitted. We apologize if we have inadvertently failed to recognize one of our valued bridge builders.

CHNK can be found on all the major social media sites – Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, and Google+. Follow, like, or friend us to stay in the loop on all the latest activity taking place at our Home!

Shop for a cause Do you shop at Kroger, Remke’s, Joseph-Beth Booksellers, or Amazon? You can raise money for our Home simply by shopping at these stores! How much easier does it get than that?! To get started:

On your computer or mobile device, visit www.kroger.com/ communityrewards and follow the instructions for registering your Kroger Plus Card in support of our Home. When asked to enter our assigned NPO #, type 82603. Then, every time you swipe your Kroger Plus Card when making a purchase, we’ll receive 3% of the total - up to $50,000 per quarter! And don’t worry – none of your fuel points or e-coupons are affected by this! Pick up a special Caring Neighbor gift card from our Covington campus front office or have one mailed to you! It looks like a typical gift card, but it’s linked to our Home. When you go grocery shopping, first stop by the customer service desk to load money onto the gift card. After you’ve finished shopping, simply use the gift card to pay for your purchase. Remke donates 4% of the total purchase for every transaction that uses one of the special gift cards. Simply reload the card when it’s running low – you can reload as many times as you need. Children’s Home of Northern Kentucky is proud to be one of only three Joseph-Beth Gives Back Partners in Northern Kentucky. When you join the Joseph-Beth Gives Back Program (their customer rewards program) and make a purchase, 1% of the total sale is donated to CHNK. Visit www.josephbeth.com/givesback for more information (select the Crestview Hills location) or to sign up online. By starting your shopping at smile.amazon.com and selecting our Home as your charitable organization of choice, Amazon will donate 0.5% of the price of your eligible purchases to CHNK!
