Policy Number: 0001 Subject: Tryouts Approved By: Doug Farrington Vice President 4/24/2002 Re-approved By: Vasso Pierne Vice President 03/12/2003 Revised By: Rick Orser Vice President 04/19/2005 All players who try out for and are selected to play on any team will be required to play for that team. No player may opt out of playing for a team once selected. All players must participate in every tryout session for the team they are trying out for. The Board of Directors reserves the right to excuse a player from a session for “Just Cause” only. All players must state their intentions to tryout before or at the “FINAL” registration of the year. The FINAL registration will be advertised as such. Registrations may be taken at tryouts only if there are openings. The Board of Directors will decide on a case by case basis if a registration will be taken.

Policy Number: 0002 Subject: Alternates Approved By: Doug Farrington President: 11/10/1998 Revision #1: John Mendes: 9/27/1999 Revision #2: Vasso Pierne Vice President 03/12/2003 Revision #2 Rick Orser Vice President: 04/19/2005: A board policy was passed that alternates will be a player within our program who has been chosen by a head coach of a higher team that is being brought up on a temporary basis to play with the higher team. (e.g. from a “B” team to an “A” team or a “C” team to a “B” team. The commitment of an alternate is to honor his/her original teams’ obligation first. The player must play games and practice with that team first. Any alternate cannot participate in more than 9 games per season with the higher team. It is the responsibility of the Head Coach to report any use of an alternate (games or practice) in advance to the President or Vice President of the Association. This policy is critical for protecting team rosters and player eligibility.

Revision: Vasso Pierne Vice President 03/12/2003 Policy: All skaters chosen for an: “A” team must play a reasonable amount of time in each game. There may be times (such as state tournament and close games) when playing time may be less than the normal, but every player must hit the ice in each game. It is suggested that a reasonable amount of time consist of a minimum of once per period. For the goalies, a minimum of one period every other game is suggested. Revision: All references to A1 and B1 teams have been removed.

Policy Number: 0004 Subject: Minimum Age Approved By: John Mendes Jr. Vice President 11/10/1998 Re-approved By: Vasso Pierne Vice President : 03/12/2003 A youngster must be 4 years old as of Dec. 31 of the registration year to be able to register in Hamden Youth Hockey. This may be waived at the Board of Directors discretion.

Policy Number: 0005 Subject: Outstanding Balances Approved By: Desi Bohan Vice President 08/06/1998 Revision: Vasso Pierne Vice President 03/12/2003 A Policy was passed that any money that is owed the association from the previous year must be paid in full at registration before the start of the new season. A player may not power skate or tryout for a team until said balance is paid in full. Revision: The Outstanding balance is a FAMILY obligation. The FAMILY BALANCE must be paid in full before ANY player in a family is allowed to register. Also no releases will be given to a player until the FAMILY BALANCE is paid in full.

Repealed By: Timothy Lee President : 06/14/2005 When a goalie from outside Hamden Youth Hockey is needed to meet the needs of the program, that goalie shall be placed on the lowest team in that level so that the Hamden player is given first preference. This shall be done on a yearly basis and the goalie coming into the program for that year must be informed of this policy. Repealed when the program was opened.

Policy Number: 0007 Subject: State Championship Jackets Approved By: Desi Bohan Vice President 06/08/1998 Re-approved By: Vasso Pierne Vice President 03/12/2003 Policy: Starting with the 1998-99 season, a team that wins its division state championship will be allotted $25.00 per player and $25.00 for two (2) coaches towards the purchase of jackets.

Policy Number: 0008 Subject: Student Coaches Approved By: Desi Bohan Vice President 10/15/1997 Revision: Vasso Pierne Vice President : 03/12/2003 Only high school players or who are no longer with Hamden Youth Hockey are allowed on the ice to participate as a coach in a team practice to a maximum of five (5) players. Players must receive permission from the Board of Directors before they can go out on the ice. No players presently playing for Hamden Youth Hockey can practice or go out on the ice with another team once teams have been picked. Revision: At the discretion of the clinic director, High School players may help in the clinic.

A board policy was adopted that only coaches who do not have children in the program will be entitled to be paid for their hotel room for any out of state tournaments the program participates in. This payment shall only apply to 1 Head Coach per team.

Policy Number: 0010 Subject: 2 Year Clinic Requirement Approved By: Desi Bohan Vice President 06/11/1997 Revision: Vasso Pierne Vice President 03/12/2003 All first year skaters in the program must do one year of clinic regardless of age or will be placed at the appropriate level at the discretion of the Board of Directors. A first year player who has come from another program and who has already skated with that program can be placed on a team at their level.

In the event of an emergency ie shortage of goalies at a higher level and a surplus is available at a lower level the Board of Directors reserves the right to move a player dependent on parent approval.

This includes clinic players. All HYHA players must wear neck guards in all practices and games. All Squirt; Pee Wee, Bantam and Midget players must wear mouth guards that are attached to their facemasks. Revision: Incorporated 2 policies and added squirts.

Sheehan Vice President 03/10/1988 Revised By: Vasso Pierne Vice President 03/12/2003 Misconduct’s/Match Penalties 1st game misconduct, any player receiving a game misconduct is automatically suspended for 1 game and 1 practice. 2nd game misconduct, a player must appear before the Board of Directors to be reinstated, or face a possible 30-day suspension from the time of the infraction. 3rd game misconduct or match penalty, the player must appear before the Board of Directors to be reinstated and could face possible disciplinary action up to and including expulsion from the program.

Policy Number: 0018 Subject: Injuries and Tryouts Approved By: Frank Richardson Vice President 09/10/1985 Revision: Vasso Pierne Vice President 03/12/2003 If a child has an injury or is under the care of a doctor, which would prevent him or her from “A” or “B” tryouts, the coach may pick the player after consultation with the Board. Or the player may have an independent tryout when medically able at the discretion of the Board. The coach must be informed before the tryout.

Policy Number: 0021 Subject: Schedules Approved By: Frank Richardson Vice President 08/15/1985 Reapproved By: Vasso Pierne Vice President 03/12/2003 A board policy was set stating that all teams of Hamden Youth Hockey, must adhere to all games that are scheduled. Any team that does not comply with this policy will face disciplinary action by the Board.

Policy Number: 0022 Subject: Assistant Coaches Approved By: Frank Richardson Vice President 08/15/1985 Re-approved By: Vasso Pierne Vice President 03/12/2003 A Board policy was passed that stated all assistant coaches are to be picked by the head coach and approved by the Board.

Policy Number: 0023 Subject: Medical Clearance Approved By: Donna Belcher President 11/15/1984 Re-approved By: Vasso Pierne Vice President : 03/12/2003 Players who have been injured or suffered a serious illness, and who have sought treatment by a member of the medical profession may be precluded from resuming normal Hamden Youth Hockey Association activities when in the best judgment of the Board of Directors that player, or other players, may be considered to be at risk. Parents or guardians are requested to seek appropriate medical advice regarding the resumption of hockey activities.

If a player is considered to be at risk, even though a parent or guardian assumes all liability, the Hamden Youth Hockey Association Board of Directors reserves the right to make a final determination as to whether that player will be allowed on the ice.

Policy Number: 0024 Subject: Returning Players Approved: Vasso Pierne Vice President 03/12/2003 Any player who has left HYHA for another program and is of high school age and eligible to try out for a high school team and comes back at the Bantam or Midget level, must pay the full years registration fee at the time of registration. They will not be allowed to powerskate or tryout until fees are paid in full. No refunds will be given if the player decides to leave before the season has ended.

Policy Number: 0025 Subject: Goalies Approved By: Vasso Pierne Effective Date: 03/12/2003 For all “A” and “B” teams at the squirt level and above, once a player completes the tryout process as a goalie and is placed on a team, that player must remain as a goalie for the remainder of the season. Any HYHA goalie at Pee Wee level or greater must provide their own equipment and return any HYHA provided equipment to the organization or be assessed the replacement value of the equipment. If a player chooses to leave the program, the equipment must be returned before a release will be issued.

Policy Number: 0026 Subject: Zero Tolerance Approved By: Vasso Pierne Effective Date: 03/12/2003 The Board of Directors reserves the right to terminate a player or family member from HYHA and sponsored events for just cause. No abuse of anyone will be tolerated. This includes but is not limited to, players, coaches, officials, fans or league officials.
