New Pan - European transport and water management project A special issue for TEN-T days and UIC Global Rail Freight Conference Rotterdam, 20 - 23 June 2016

• Large Infrastructure Projects Ltd. is a private Bulgarian company with headquarters in Sofia. • Large Infrastructure Projects ltd. is the creator and the developer of both ABC+De and Trerivs projects. • ABC+De means Aegean sea to Baltic sea Connection and Danube river. • ABC+De project is a new Pan- European transport and water management project for the Danube and tributaries. • Trerivs is a new water management and transport project for the rivers of Thrace- Maritsa ( Evros, Meric ), Arda, Tundza, Eritropotamos and Ergene. • The ABC + De project evolved from a study of new port on the Aegean Sea and new railway connecting the port and the site for the new plant in the middle of Bulgaria (town of Nikolaevo ) for processing of ores to the largest Pan-European project extending from the Aegean Sea, and Marmara Sea to Baltic Sea and North Sea as well as all along the Danube. • Project finance will be the method to provide funds for the building ABC+De railways, ports and logistics centers, based upon the projected cash flows. • Not planned to use EU funds for the ABC+De project design and construction costs.

The objectives of the ABC+De project are: 1. To create a new highly effective connection for transportation of goods between Suez Canal, Eastern Mediterranean, Middle East, Aegean sea and Marmara Sea regions , South East Europe and Eastern Europe, Central Europe, Northern Europe and the Baltic region; 2. Be set up a new Europe trade gateway to Africa, Middle and Far East; 3. To transform the Danube river into an efficient inland waterway, which can be relied on throughout the whole year; 4. To create a new passenger high-speed train lines between Istanbul, Bursa, Bucharest, Vienna, Sofia, Warsaw and Berlin; 5. To reduce greenhouse gases, environmental pollution and harmful impact of road transport; 6. Increasing economy of the regions covered by the project; development of tourism.

ABC + De project elements are: 1. A new port in the town of Feres (Greece) at Aegean sea; 2. SNS ( South- North Stream ) - high efficient new double line railway; 3. New ports on the 533+000th km on the Danube river, which will be hubs for the countries linked by the river; 4. A new port on the Baltic Sea; 5. Large number of new logistics centers around the ports and along new SNS railway; 6. Activities on the Danube that: - convert the river ( also Sava and Tisa ) into an effective, reliable and environmentally friendly transport way; - terminate the floods .

FERES PORT The new port will be composed of two parts. Deep section is located in Greek territorial waters. The part in land is intended for ships carrying new cars, for ferries and cruise ships. The two parts are connected with a channel.

Feres port • Deep sea water port, capable to handling more than 25 m draught ships; • Terminals for bulk cargo, containers, oil , LNG , general goods, agricultural products , semi – trailers , newly produced cars and other vehicles ; for acceptance of ferries and cruise ships; • May adopt ships due to the size and type of load can not pass through the Straits; • Feres will be one of the few European ports where can berth new 26 300 TEUs ULCS; • New European trade gate; • Hub for Eastern Mediterranean, Aegean sea, Marmara sea , Black Sea, Azov Sea. Provided all conditions for transshipments; • Connectivity with railways, available highway and international airport; • Existing and new build supporting infrastructure - water, electricity, gas main pipeline; • “Green” port; • Design capacity - 400 million tons per year (phased), quay walls over 100 km (phased).

WISLA BALTIC PORT

Wisla Baltic port • Designed primarily for the new Aegean sea- Baltic sea “green" corridor; • Terminals for containers, bulk cargo, LNG , general goods, agricultural products , semi –trailers , newly produced cars and other vehicles ; for acceptance of ferries; • Hub for the Baltic countries and Norway; • Design capacity - 150 million tons per year incl. 8 million TEUs, quay walls- 12,5 km.

New railway - South-North Stream (SNS) • New double line railway running from Feres port, passing through Eastern and Central Europe to a new port on the Baltic Sea ( near the city of Elblag – Poland ); • The railway is intended primarily for freight trains. The parameters of railroad are designed also for high-speed trains movement; • Branches which connect to the railway backbone include new railway routes to and from Istanbul , Bursa , Bucharest (reconstruction) , Budapest, Vienna, Warsaw (reconstruction), Hamburg / Bremerhaven/Cuxhaven via Berlin; • SNS is characterized by: high capacity + high commercial speed = high efficiency in a block train: up to 149 km/h competitive prices 476 TEUs or 1092 new cars average speed for prompt deliveries or 4 529 980 Nm³ NG the freight trains fifteen times bigger throughput huge amount of loads up to than an average 1,2 billion t per year European railway

The principle of the ABC + De project for the Danube is “ add value ” The formula of the ABC + De project for Middle and Lower Danube is

7 in 1 1. no more floods 2. less drought 3. effective river navigation- all around year , 4 m draft 4. ecology and biodiversity 5. connectivity 6. green energy 7. unified management of the river and its tributaries , in one - the ABC+De project In the ABC+De project the elements of the infrastructure on the Danube are compulsorily in the following order: 1. Dams and other hydraulic structures on the river and its tributaries; 2. Railways; 3. Highways and roads; 4. Joint transport solutions for cities on both sides of the river; 5. Recreational trails for bicycle and tourism.

The ABC+De project activities will make the Danube river in a effective waterway • From the river mouth to 1895th km the characteristics of a convoy of barges and pusher will be: • Dimensions: - length - 301,00 m ; - draft - 4,00 m in the whole year (even at the lowest waters); - beam - 33,20 m. Speed up to 17 km/ h • Capacity up to 29 000 tones of cargo ; up to 2250 TEUs. • As a result of the reduced distance and increased speed, the travel time from the new ports, located at the 533,000th km to Bratislava / Vienna will be halved.

ABC+De project 1. Conversion of the Danube in constant all year around, efficient and environmentally friendly transport corridor; 4. To create a new passenger high-speed railway lines between Istanbul, Bursa, Aegean Sea, Bucharest, Budapest, Bratislava, Vienna, Sofia, Warsaw and Berlin; 5. To reduce greenhouse gases, environmental pollution and harmful impact of road transport; 6. Increasing the growth rate of the economies of the regions (respectively of countries) in the project scope. The objectives of the Large Infrastructure Projects ltd. are to realize the ABC + De project . Large Infrastructure Projects ltd. is in process of preparing the action plan that will involve the governments, municipalities, NGOs, expert and public for project implementation.
